SeaWorld San Diego (SWSD) Discussion Thread
Jew replied to CoasterJunkie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last weekend TPR was invited to check out Sea World's "Seven Seas Food Festival," and I have to say it was great for a newer event. The food was delicious, but expect smaller portions than you are used to if your only previous theme park food festival experience was EPCOT. But did I mention the food was delicious? And being in San Diego, they had a great selection of beer too! Seeing as the name is "Seven Seas Food Festival," there were 7 distinct areas represented: California, France, Polynesia, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Latin America, and Asia. I sampled and took pictures of what I could and was not disappointed! Other highlights included Jamaican Baby Back Ribs from the Caribbean The three areas with entertainment also had multiple food options (pictured is California) Obligatory coaster photo...Manta is still a really fun ride! California, France, and Polynesia had entertainment options in addition to their delicious food! Thankfully, whale was not on the menu, so here's an obligatory Shamu photo to close..we caught them during a Dine with Shamu experience in the back tank, which allowed for some up close views even if you didn't have dinner there! California also had this delicious chicken sausage! The Taiwanese popcorn chicken from the Asian station was so delicious I ate it before I remembered to take a picture! ...And delicious beer! Each weekend a new local brewery takes over! No visible construction on the new ride yet I think it is important to note this too...Sea World should have made this a focal point of their Blackfish response... This display is at the entrance of the park to let you know what is going on For diabetics, France also featured a delicious lamb "lollypop" The waffle on a stick covered in syrup and bacon was amazing! France had the most popular stand...not diabetic friendly! France also featured a rotating local craft beer selection! The best value is probably this sampler...5 beers and 5 food items! They also sell just food and just wine packages as well. -
I have friends who worked at Disney while he was in charge of the parks there and they all seemed happy about it on Facebook. I hope the new guy will bring passion back to Haunt. The maze quality has improved a ton, but it lost a lot of the charm it once had IMO. Less mazes and more rules for the monsters.

I'm guessing that Cedar Fair includes Knotts Market Place and the Hotel into their attendance figures for the Knotts property. There is no way that the Theme Park and Water Park combined drew 5.5 million people. Where does TEA Connect and the IAPAA get their figures? They use a combination of publicly available information and their sources.

2015 Theme Park Attendance Report

The trust company is the sole owner of the resorts and the largest shareholder of the Hershey Company (10%), which is a publicly traded company. -
2015 Theme Park Attendance Report

^Taking quality out of the equation, the fair comparison to those parks would be Six Flags. They are the go to local park in larger cities that also have history on their side. I don't think you'll see any regional parks in the U.S. not owned by a major corporation on this list anytime soon. -
Except that everything between Iron Reef and Xcelerator is very popular with their target demographic. And it was a huge investment. They aren't removing any of that within the next ten to fifteen years. On the flip side, all of the rides on the boardwalk are rides that can be very easily moved to another cedar fair park. Flat rides and a mouse. We're not talking about a custom coaster layout here... I don't think the boardwalk will be touched (if anything, if Boomerang is replaced, they'd use it as an excuse to keep improving the theme), but I don't think the cost of a mouse and a couple flat rides would deter them either...

Seriously... what is so freaking special about B&M Dive coasters? They look so boring to me. Boomerang is still very popular and pretty reliable, so I don't see it going away anytime this year at least (especially with how over budget this summer has gone). On a personal note, I LOVE being able to tell people the Arrow/Vekoma story and then point out that there's a Vekoma Boomeramg on the site of the old Arrow Corkscrew. It's such an amazing and super shady amusement park history story. It's not about what is special to enthusiasts. It's about what wow's the guests. A vertical drop certainly qualifies as something that wows. Boomerang might be "popular," but it's also low capacity and very old by today's standards. With riptide gone, unless they replace that with another flat ride, the logical thing would be to clear out boomerang too (which can likely be sold to another park) for expansion.

Conneaut Lake Park (CLP) Discussion Thread
Jew replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This park just needs to be put out of its misery already... This thread is like a broken record: "yay, it's open!" and by seasons end "oh crap, it's in trouble again." -
Aside from it being mentioned on wikipedia with no citation, I've never heard that the K is officially a landmark. It's only been there since the 70's, so I'm not exactly sure how it would qualify for landmark status since it really has no historical significance aside from being visible . Realistically, I think they made the change because they realized the logistics of taking down the tower and then adding a new one didn't really make much sense. Parks also need balance. Families and history are great, but families also have kids that grow up. Even the Knott's family had to buy the best thrills they could afford to stay competitive (Monte, Boomerang, GhostRider, and even the ill-fated Windjammer).

Very little of the robotics research Disney does will actually end up in the parks. I wouldn't take anything away from this report...not for many more years at least.
