  1. That WaterWorld rip-off looks awesome. Looks like they took the best of Miami Vice (the hovercraft and mine car track) and WaterWorld! Keep up the great updates!
  2. Six Flags official policy has always been "no personal electronics." And with that, going back to Jahan's post about the intent of the thread, I think it is time to end the discussion on "wild ideas" on how to fix this problem. We're beating a dead horse here. Yes it is a problem. Yes it should still be posted if/when you visit the park and notice. But we are quickly heading down the "locker discussion" road with this one with all the wild ideas being tossed around...
  3. What's the big deal with a phone being charged? Sure it might not be the best show having it visible, but it's certainly not the end of the world. I used the outlet at RRv to charge my phone too (but it was hidden). I'd much rather have operators simply charging their phones over using them while working!
  4. Six Flags+$100 million dollar ride? That's a joke right? And what does that have to do with the cost of Maverick and Tatsu??? Well, Six Flags must be doing something right to have turned a second quarter profit and be on track for free positive cash flows. Perhaps it is because those "D-list" coasters attract a different demographic that spend more money? And what's wrong with smaller coasters? Judging by the first TPR East Coast Trip update, everyone seemed to love that "D-list" Mauer Shone spinning coaster... So you're judging the whole strategy based on your experience on those two rides? As if they are the only "D-list" coasters out there? And as if every father is 6'2"? As if the big/expensive rides you're advocating aren't just as uncomfortable for certain body types? No offense, but you being uncomfortable is hardly an argument that all these new rides are not family friendly... But anyways...now my two cents on the subject: Building nothing but big/expensive coasters got Six Flags nothing but a lot of debt and a bad reputation. Kudos to the new management team for trying something different. Focusing on the return doesn't mean that there will never be any big/expensive coasters, it just means that they will be smarter investments. That's a big improvement over just plopping down a B&M and expecting it to make the park profitable.
  5. ^^You don't have to "get" it, but that doesn't mean it's not a huge problem. The reality is the potential market for HRP shrank considerably when people started losing their disposable incomes to foreclosures, layoffs, gas prices, etc.
  6. Feel free to upload your photos here! You simply have to resize them 800x600, edit your post, and then choose the file to be uploaded! Then we can add them to the park index page on here.
  7. Development is definitely not the answer for Six Flags. It's not really the answer for anyone right now for that matter. Maybe in the future if/when the economy gets better, but right now is not the time to be developing new hotels and shopping centers... Smaller capital investments and a continued focus on improving the quality of the employees/look inside the park is about all Six Flags can do with the economy the way it is.
  8. The reality is that there is no such thing as a good development right now. Obviously their original business plan didn't account for the current state of the economy when they were getting their funding before things got ugly, so I consider don't consider the park a failure...yet. Right now is a "transition" phase, as they are probably working hard behind the scenes to figure out what the heck they are going to do to survive.
  9. Lets keep this thread on topic.... You can use any image editing program to resize the photo to an 800x600 jpeg for uploading to the site. I'd love to see what the place looks like.
  10. ^Next time you're there, ask a cast member who they would rather deal with. pASSholders are really bad. They probably do more to disrupt operations than any obnoxious kid ever could.
  11. I agree with this. Me and Dave have both been traveling with Robb and Elissa for a long time. Getting her picture taken is by far her favorite part of the trips! And Dave's Elissa bingo prizes are always awesome. So it's a win win situation.
  12. I personally don't care at all for Harry Potter, but I even I can recognize how popular a franchise it is. It's the Lord of the Rings of this generation. Harry Potter movies are currently the 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th, and 20th highest grossing worldwide movies of all time. If that wasn't enough, over 400 million copies of all the Harry Potter books have been sold. That's pretty good for a fad that people won't remember in 15 years!
  13. Cedar Fair has standards for its employees?
  14. ^The weaker value of the dollar+higher price=more money from an increase in international visitors. As Eric mentioned, locals can still get a great deal from Vons and Disney stores. I suspect they will probably launch a new locals promotion as well.
  15. I'm guessing it was open. The ride is designed to valley in that section.
  16. Very cool! I did the tour of Camden Yards a few years ago and thought it was neat to see everything from a different perspective.
  17. I believe there is still one final planning meeting left to resolve the dispute.
  18. The Metrodome will still be the home of the Vikings. And the seat is where Harmon Killebrew had his 520ft home run land.
  19. Great find! This has been added to the park index page.
  20. ^That was probably most themed quick serve restaurant in the country! Bummer.
  21. Awesome pictures! It's a damn shame many of those rides are too heavy to be transported in the U.S.
  22. ^Dodger Stadium will actually be the 3rd oldest stadium. Wrigley and Fenway are still much older.
  23. As long as you save all the plastic panels. What friends cars will we be able to kick if you blow up the Saturn plant?
  24. You can definitely still discuss SFMM in this thread! I think the point Jahan is trying to make is that all discussions should be based on what is currently going on in the park, and that all posts should actually add something to the conversation. For example, the argument I got into about marketing? Pointless. But our current discussion about the employee situation? Considering its the middle of summer, how the employees are doing are the updates that really count! Everyone wants to know how the turn around is going during the busiest time of the year! But going back to what I think Jahan is trying to say, you should only really be adding to the discussion about employees (or whatever the current topic may be) if you have your own experiences (whether that be a trip report, time as a former/current employees, photos, etc.), rather than just speculating/assuming/saying how you would do it different/etc. without anything to back it up. That's what really causes the thread to get off course, with it usually taking a few pages of posts to get back on track! Again, my debate about the marketing is a perfect example of this! Hope that clears it up. Jahan will probably add more later.
