SeaWorld San Diego (SWSD) Discussion Thread
Jew replied to CoasterJunkie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Can't wait to check this out this summer. Sea World has been long overdue for a decent attraction. -
As I already stated, and Robb later provided links to positive TR's...The park gets praise when it deserves it. But in the last few years, it really feels like they have just given up and are content with being the Xtreme park. Sure it is nice they are building new rides, but what is the point if their operation sucks?

^He also owns the London Knights. That probably factored into it too. Side note: Mike Smith is a b*tch. Not only did he dive, but he took a blatant cheap shot at Brownie. I'm OK with a goalie protecting their crease with a nice check, but that was ridiculous.

As a side note to Magic Mountain's problems, what is really amazing is just how many talented people have worked at SFMM before moving on to bigger and better things at other parks because of bad management/low pay. They bolt for Universal or Disney as fast as they can, though all would probably still be at SFMM if the working environment was better...

^When they move to Anaheim?

I'm pretty sure all of us knew that Laker disaster was coming tonight...*sighs*

48 shots on goals will still usually get you the win unless the goalie plays lights out! Good to see the Kings being so aggressive.
-
^Yeah, although the Lakers almost blew their height advantage without much help from anyone from the outside the previous two games. Good thing they showed up tonight and MettaTest looked good, along with Blake finally contributing something...

^Guess not. Still was a good game. Caps had lots of opportunities in the 2nd period.

^Guess not. Still a good fight.

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) Discussion Thread

I have heard that JK Rowling is very hands on with these projects, so I would say that is not too surprising (in fact, I incorrectly speculated that because she was so hands on, licensing with another owner would take longer...oops!) if she is really that involved in making sure every detail is correct. It's more complex when working with 3rd parties, let alone the engineering efforts it must take on all levels (structure, electrical, ride, architecture) it must take for a project like that. Heck, even Carsland was announced in 2007 and is just now getting ready to open! -
^Now you're stuck watching Jack Johnson turn it over in his own zone instead.

Comprehensive Coaster Credit Conversation
Jew replied to Shockwave's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I still keep track, but definitely don't go out of my way to credit whore anymore. I slept through a few of the credit whore days on TPR trips in the past few years. I don't even care to ride powered coasters unless there is something unique about them. I heard putting your coaster count on your resume works great though. -
What area really needs a theme park?
Jew replied to let1gre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Good point. Costs have to be the sole reason. Aside from the start up costs being high (rides aren't cheap), the insurance (ride insurance+hurricane insurance) would be ridiculous. I could only imagine the costs of building a pier in the Gulf Coast post Katrina (good luck getting financing on that!). Beach and Casino development is much more profitable because there isn't as high of an initial start up cost, and someone could see a return much quicker. $1 million bucks (rough cost of a major flat ride) could buy quite a few slot machines that will instantly make money... -
The Caps sure did put themselves at a disadvantage tonight...

Dear Intamin: You rock. Definitely want to check this ride out during the summer if I can find time on my days off. -
Cole Hamels is my new hero. Bringing back the Don Drysdale mentality. (My favorite baseball quote ever: "Why waste four pitches when I can put them on base with one?"-Don Drysdale)
