Best and Worst Rides for Maintenance
Jew replied to Solipsisto's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I would say that the amount of preventative maintenance required to keep them running good would place them in the "bad" category for maintenance. -
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (BGT Discussion Thread)

I suspect the restaurant will end up being re-purposed as another dining option. Full service dining at a theme park is difficult to pull off outside of Disney, since the margins are much lower from higher operating costs. They're probably closing it down to refine the menu and operations in order to keep it profitable. -
Best and Worst Rides for Maintenance

Every single ride ever built. No design can withstand the wear and tear of being cycled as many times as rides do. Some are just better at prolonging the inevitable. -

^Still not sure I believe that given the new Six Flags management team going back to the old ways... -
Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

^I am not sure if this is on all inverts, but some actually have a drain system (little tube that runs down the side of the car) for that very reason. -
^Yeah, sounds like that was a verbal agreement that was never finalized. FYI: It's only 1 month until kickoff!

^I agree. I would be curious to know what part has failed so soon into the rides life. Usually parks keep stock on hand for common problems, so something pretty bad must have been found for them to have to wait for a part to be shipped or fabricated already. Either that or SFMM was too cheap to buy the proper stock of parts in the first place, which is also a possibility...

Fun Spot America Discussion Thread

I feel even less excited about eventually getting the credits at Fun Spot now... -
I'm not so sure I would consider Colossus iconic. The Coney Island Cyclone is iconic. Most people outside of LA probably don't even know the ride exists. You could probably tell them it was featured in Vacation or the Step by Step opening, and then they'd say "oh yeah...," but I don't think that counts as iconic. However, more to the point of the discussion: I wouldn't count on the RMC makeover unless the contract was already signed. The NTAG incident is sure to put a strain on their business relationship, since I am sure both sides (well, their insurance companies & lawyers) will be haggling over who is responsible and pays out what.

Disney Park Characters...with heads off???
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think most people realize just how difficult playing a character at a theme park is. Even if you are a costumed character, to be good at your job you still have to figure out what you can do to remain in character without talking and within the limits of the costume. For example, at USH, I always see the Scooby costumed characters making it a point to seek out guests with snacks in their hands. For face characters its even more difficult--since they have to look the part, act the part, and sound like the part! -
Six Flags Over Texas (SFOT) Discussion Thread

^Perhaps you should share that reason. I think it was a fair assumption to make: shortly after a fatal accident involving ejector air, a modified train pops up on another one of the companies coasters. Not a reach to guess that the two are related, even if it is incorrect. -

It's not that they can't handle it...I just wonder if Six Flags is willing to keep footing the bill. -

I think Shockwave is a great ride, but I wonder how much longer the ride will be able to last if parts have to be special made...can't imagine Six Flags wanting that expense forever.
