Attractions near your theme park
pryonisys replied to tarheel1231's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With Waldameer being my home park the biggest attraction in the area is right next to Waldameer and that's Presque Isle and Lake Erie. Waldameer actually has great views of both. If you ever come up to Erie for Ravine Flyer II do yourself a favor and turn left out of the park and drive around Presque Isle, it's a beautiful state park with some great beaches. -
The best part about BGW on rainy days is the crowds are minimal. I went a few years ago where there were thunderstorms forecast and a passing storm in the morning, but the park was empty when I got there. The sky was blue but since there was a threat of storm it seemed people kept away and everything was walk on that day. Virginia has a lot of storms that come and go, I hope it ends up being a really good time for you.

What is your next park?
pryonisys replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Most likely Hershey Park June 11th or 12th. My sister lives in Harrisburg and we are visiting her that weekend, if the weather is good we are heading to the park. I may make it to Waldameer in my town for a ride on Ravine Flyer II before that though. -
Should observation towers make a comeback?
pryonisys replied to Samuel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I enjoy the concept of observation towers, but it seems like the AC units would often have problems and they would have a lingering smell of vomit (in the ones I had ridden in the past at least). It would be nice if they could reincorporate them as I agree they make a good family friendly ride but if they never come back I will not mind at all, I don't view it as a massive loss to amusement parks. -

It is amazing more did not get hurt on that Rob, I believe you are completely correct on that -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
pryonisys replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Today on the NFL Draft the Cleveland Browns made their 4th round selection at Cedar Point with Iron Dragon in the background. Looked like a gross day to be at an amusement park, but it was nice to hear a coaster running in the background. -
Waldameer Discussion Thread
pryonisys replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The followup is much appreciated and even without any real plans in place it's fun to be able to speculate some, but let me say I'm just happy that we have a coaster as great as Ravine Flyer II. -
Waldameer Discussion Thread
pryonisys replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, I know this is the closest possible to not really being anything noteworthy at all but whoever runs the Waldameer Instagram responded to a question about potential future roller coasters saying "Not sure, but someday! We have some neat ideas for future expansions that include a roller coaster." So I know this isn't really news but it is nice to hear that they are still thinking about expansions that could one day include a roller coaster. Not really sure where they could expand and fit in a coaster, maybe down by the lake, I'm not entirely sure what property they own currently Darn guess that Raptor track isn't for Waldameer (had to get that ridiculous comment out of the way) -
I don't get all of the hate for Mach Tower. The ride gave a great view and I found the drop was almost as good as an Intamin tower. I know it had Lightning Rod syndrome opening year but I do enjoy that ride. I'm with you, It's not a terrible drop tower, sure it's not the best, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
pryonisys replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I haven't ridden Dominator at Kings Dominion yet, but I'd imagine it is the same as when it was at Geagua Lake. It was a really good coaster there, so I'd imagine it is still good at KD. My favorite B&M floorless is currently Hydra at Dorney, but it is possible I'm not giving Dominator it's fair due as it has been such a long time since I've ridden it. -
Djurs Sommerland Discussion Thread

I think true free swinging inverts like the old arrow ones put a ton of stress on the track and supports making them not last as long (I believe that is one of the reasons rides like Big Bad Wolf are disappearing). -
Game: When was the last time you...

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
pryonisys replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Adding my quick story of Magnum to the collection. I believe that my first trip to Cedar Point was in 1992, I was 6 years old (it may have been 93,, which would have made me 7 and made this whole thing more likely, but whatever) and Magnum was the biggest and best that I had ever heard of to that point. The only steel coasters I had ever ridden before that trip were kiddie coasters and I was convinced that on our way there I would be able to see Magnum from Cleveland. We made it to the park and my older siblings and I were running all over the park getting on every coaster we possibly could (the corkscrew doesn't seem nearly as bad when you're a lot younger). We finally made it on Magnum after a very long wait and I still couldn't believe at the time that any coaster could be that tall. I can't tell you what seat I rode in or what side (I have a picture somewhere but it doesn't really matter) but the fact that I had ridden that coaster gave me huge bragging rights for the next few years at school. Amazing how much times change and now Magnum doesn't seem all that big in comparison to even other coasters in the park. Another short story from that trip, after waiting in line for quite awhile (everything seems longer when you're young though) for Mean Streak with my fearless older sister we finally made it to the station and without saying much at all she got intimidated by the structure and just walked right through the train and right out the exit. (once again, how things change in terms of a coaster being thought of as intimidating) -
Best Drops....
pryonisys replied to BiCoastal Kid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Favorite wood coaster drop: Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer, especially in the back getting pulled over the crest Favorite steel coaster drop: Griffon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, first dive coaster I was ever on and even if the coaster itself leaves something to be desired the drop itself is great. -
Most Disappointing Coaster!
pryonisys replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I may be alone on this (or at least in the minority) but Space Mountain at Disney World. I think I had ridiculous expectations though. The people I was with had it so overhyped that it was just too much. -
What defunct park intrigues you the most?
pryonisys replied to coaster57's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha, this is actually one of the first things that came to mind for me. I would love to be able to see it at it's heyday however. I remember when I was much younger (<5) going and not really being able to ride anything, but watching older siblings and other teenagers riding the hell hole and such. Even though I think I went there 3 or 4 times as a teenager Geagua Lake/Sea World always intrigues me. Howe quickly Six Flags built up the park and then how quickly it all just disappeared. It was fun, but the location was not designed to handle a park of that size. I still wish it existed, SLC, Boomerang and all -
Anaconda was actually the first one I thought of, it's been over 15 years though, so I'm not sure how it rides anymore. The other one I enjoyed in the early/mid 90s was Drachenfire, but I was small and light so I didn't hit the headrests too hard (it was clearly rough though). I just enjoyed the mid-drop corkscrew and it was an intense coaster, probably more intense than Arrow had the ability to properly execute.

Your 5 year plan and predictions for any park
pryonisys replied to adamd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So I know this was from a long time ago, but if this was the route Waldameer took I'd be very happy with it (obviously with the fixed dates, moving everything back 1 year from 2016)
