  1. Carowinds tomorrow! Lots of driving is ahead of me tonight though.
  2. I'll see how my body feels that day after driving 10 hours to SC to see if I think I can manage a ride on Vortex. I've only ridden 2 stand up coasters, Mantis (which was uncomfortable) and Shockwave back in the 90s (which was just unpleasant). I'll try to make Nighthawk my first ride just to get it out of the way, last flying dutchman style coaster that I was on was X-Flight at Geagua Lake, they seem similar. I'm interested to see how I feel about those now that I'm not a teenager anymore. I'd like to get on all of the coasters but the main goal is to make sure I get a few rides on Fury and Afterburn because they just look great.
  3. Probably just a bit out of my price range to have a slide complex in my back yard
  4. If you are going to the park during the day you will have station-waits and walk-ons on nearly every ride in the park. Nighthawk and Ricochet being the main exceptions. Thank you very much. Station waits are no problem at all. First non Dorney, Hershey, or Waldameer park in like 10 years (odd as that seems to me) I'm very much looking forward to it.
  5. The only thing that the Golden Ticket Awards are good for is the GP and so parks like Waldameer can put on billboards that Ravine Flyer II is the 7th best wooden coaster. Doesn't really matter much to people who are more involved in this sort of community but the GP gets excited about it and I suppose that can be useful to a small park (like Waldameer)
  6. So I know Carowinds is only open until 5 this upcoming Saturday, but this would be the first and only chance I've had to make it there, and the only chance until who knows when (at least 2 years), how insanely busy does everyone think that the park will be this weekend? The main piece of advice that I've heard about the park is ride intimidator before Fury 325. I know the park is open longer on Sunday but unfortunately that is not an option for me on this trip down south.
  7. Definitely: Waldameer Hershey Park (it's nice to have family members that provide us with free tickets) Kennywood Probably: Canada's Wonderland Darien Lake Conneaut Lake Park Doubtful, but oh how I wish: Cedar Point Kings Island Kings Dominion (edited as I am not incredibly defiant. I'm also not super good at this whole spelling thing)
  8. Not really close to any of the Six Flags parks anymore used to be right between two (Six Flags Worlds of Adventure and Six Darien Lake). Most of the time now I'm just a casual observer of what's going on at the Six Flags parks and what rides they're getting because I haven't been to one since they sold Geagua Lake.
  9. Enthusiasts are likely to agree with you as homogeneous names for homogeneous makes it easier compartmentalize what you have ridden/not ridden and discuss the new rides. The vast majority of park guests (who only visit their home park) won't know, therefore they won't care. That is actually a really good point. I don't make it most of those parks, so I just look at them all as a whole and if I was to say Harley Quinn it could be 3 very different rides this year. You are however right I should be thinking about the ride name more from a GP standpoint and I'm sure most of them won't care/know at all.
  10. These seem pretty much like what we expected to see Six Flags add to their parks. I don't think there should be any major complaints. Most of this stuff looks fun. My only issue is naming of rides. How many different names now do the free flys have, 4? (Batman, Joker, Green Lantern, and now Wonder Woman). 2 Gyroscope rides, one Cyborg, one Harley Quinn... I kind of understand why they would do it differently from park to park, but overall I would prefer if the kept the names the same or similar across the franchise. Oh well, that is a super minor complain, I guess I'm just curious about the opinions of others on this.
  11. I typically don't get to everything at my home park (Waldameer) because I can just drop by on my lunch break get a couple of rides in then head back to work. The ride that I haven't been on in years though is the Tilt-A-Whirl, I'd rather do pretty much any ride in the park besides that. It just hasn't been something that is worth it to wait for even 3 minutes.
  12. Back row of Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer. Ran out at lunch last Wednesday, got my ride in and headed home. Unless I happen to hit up Carowinds when on vacation in September that's likely my last ride of the year.
  13. I was wondering about that rendering when I was watching it also because I was really impressed too. I'm about to sound stupid since I have very little experience with 3D rendering software but my curiosity is getting the best of me so I'm going to ask anyway. At this point is it reasonable to assume that they've rendered almost the entire park in 3D? Can they simply open an existing file and add a new ride and the surrounding details at this point while re-using a lot of the surrounding rides that they've already rendered or do they have to re-create the surrounding rides and area from scratch each time they need to do one of these? So basically, can they open the file they used to render and re-use any of it for the new animation or do they need to start from scratch? Sorry again for the dumb question and likely misuse of industry terms, I just don't know much about this field. He (yes, one single person does these... Good friend of ours) has most of CP already modeled from so many past projects with the park... So while there is some work still done, much of the time the focus is just the new and surrounding areas. Pretty cool process, to be honest! So no, it is not a "start of scratch" in all cases where previous work was done... Especially Cedar Point where he has done many of the past rides (Rougarou, Valravn, Gatekeeper, Maverick, etc...). In some other cases though, a lot more work has to be done depending on the project scope and expectation from whatever park/customer. Thank you for that information. He does a terrific job, thanks for the "behind the scenes"(or monitor as the case may be) about how this gets done.

I don't have a ton of experience, but I had a trial of NoLimits2 for a bit and it looks like you can render in the whole park, if you have a custom flat ride it seems like there are options for importing them. It would seem they're using something much more advanced as the quality is amazing, but they have real engineers to do it, not just amateurs having fun with a program to do complex coaster design. To shorten it up, I'd guess they have the full park mapped with the ability to move things when needed or add in new things as desired, but I don't know for sure.
  15. The ride looks amazing, I have nothing new to add, just that it looks fantastic, but can we just say how good the CGI renderings of the rides are getting. Cedar Fair's ride renderings look super high quality, well done animation staff.
  16. That was a bit awkward. That song could fade into obscurity anytime now.
  17. It looks like I may get a chance to make it Carowinds for the first time this September. The only problem is that based on schedule and such the only day that would be available for me to hit up the park would be Saturday Sepember 16th. I try not to make it to any park on Saturday's but this would be the only day I could make it, how terrible to Saturday crowds tend to be? Are they any better that late in the season once school is back in session?
  18. If we had no clue what they were doing it would be a masterful teaser, but it's a really good teaser for the ride and it's name. Maybe they're doing some form of an update to all of Candy Apple Grove. They have been saying this will be the biggest announcement yet, and updating a whole section of the park would be pretty big, and the pattern is apples. I'm probably grasping at straws here, but hey we're all talking about this and that's exactly what Kings Dominion wants us to be doing.
  19. This looks really great, first park to have 2 RMC's, correct? I may need to get down there one day, it looks quite cool, I hope that dispatch times are quick because there are so few seats, that could be a benefit to having the smaller capacity, but it will be interesting to see how the line moves.
  20. Seriously? You sound like a ton of fun. In my (slightly) younger days I used to make it a point to yell at the "wrong" time on the swinging ships. Good Times.
  21. This is me. You are talking about me. Only its not just on rides, its all the time. Well at least you are consistent on and off rides haha.
  22. I like how she started the video saying hi to her grandma and then proceed to curse up a storm the whole rest of the video. Super classy. As for the initial question I don't really care if people scream on rides, I personally don't but that's just me. I do however hate it when people are screaming out words that are typically considered crude or inappropriate constantly on rides. Not so much for myself (I can ignore pretty much everything and that's fine with me) but I wish people were more aware of the fact that they are around children constantly at amusement parks who will copy just about everything they hear. That's my only real complaint.
  23. Seems like a cool use of existing space. Don't know if Darkastle got a lot of traffic during the haunt season so this would be a good way to use existing structure.
  24. Raptor the year that it opened (that was a long line)
