Waldameer Discussion Thread
pryonisys replied to Millennium ForceJZ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Made it to Waldameer for my lunch break and took a quick ride on Ravine Flyer. Only had to wait 3 trains and if I didn't want the back I could have just walked right on. The parking lot was pretty busy today, but I believe most of the patrons were in Water World today as it's a beautiful day. Ravine Flyer is still riding great this year and it mad for a very good lunch break. -

You can pay per ride, but if you want a few re-rides on each of those you may want to get the daily pass. Each ride on Ravine Flyer II, Steel Dragon and Thunder River is 4.50. All day ride pass is $30 (all depends on what you would like to do in terms of re-rides) -
Going to parks alone?
pryonisys replied to alilstronger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've never done a trip to a park alone, but I'm making plans to head to Cedar Point alone late this summer. I haven't been there for about 10 years and my wife is pregnant not only does she have very little interest in riding coasters, but now she shouldn't be. Hoping to get a good day in at a big park alone before it will be harder to. the responses on this thread have given me confidence that a solo day at the park will be not only fine, but good and enjoyable. -

Sara's does tend to have lines if it's a nice day but it's kind of an Erie staple. I'll be there on a weekday and I can always try to get there at off-hours, so, shouldn't be too terrible. Thanks though! No problem, their shakes are very good. I hope you have a great visit. I'd also recommend at least a drive around Presque Isle (it's not very big) if you have time and you're already down there. -

IMO get food outside of the park. The park food is inexpensive as far as park food goes, but I've personally never been a fan of Waldameer's food options, it all seems very generic to me (Disclaimer: I was raised in a family that brought a cooler to amusement parks and made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch and that frugalness has carried on into my adulthood, so my opinion doesn't line up well with most park goers when it comes to food). With easy access and free parking it's really no problem to get out of the park for food, there are some decent sit down restaurants right on the Peninsula Ave (the road the park's main entrance is on), I've only been there once but Joe Roots Grill which is very close to the park is an ok lunch spot. There are a lot of places on West Lake Road also. It really all depends what you are looking for in terms of food. A local favorite for burgers and hot dogs is Sara's which is just north of Waldameer at the entrance to Presque Isle. (Not a place I frequent very often as a company I used to work for managed their computers so if I was there to eat they would always ask me to fix their computer issues). -
I was watching the footage of the park walk through and had the same thought. I've had a lot of ankle problems so just looking at the asphalt made me cringe a little. Even without looking at my phone that's some rough terrain. I'm sure fixing the asphalt is not high on the park's to do list though with their current finances.

I'm going to have to try to make it back there this year. I've only been there for the Halloween event in recent years but it would be nice to revisit this park after 25 or so years of not going (and just get a bunch of rides on Blue Streak, because it's inexpensive). I know the park has problems, but it would be nice to see it succeed and get out of the terrible financial problems the park had.

As would I, It would be one of the biggest bragging rights of all time. Looks like everyone was clear and there was no one who got injured so that is very good news -

I know this is a joke and all but I'd be all for it. -
Unfortunatly I was unable to make it. After the work training finished my coworker and I both felt a ill (probably from what we were fed for lunch at the training). Atlanta is where the company headquarters is so it's possible they may have me come back down for some other work event and hopefully I can get to SFOG then.

Saddly I think it's not going to happen. Looks like training won't get out until around 3, then it's another hour to the park and they close at 7. I thought they were going to be closing at 8, but I must have read the calendar incorrectly. Sad times, I fly back up to PA tomorrow morning. At least I'll have a "Six Flags" up by Buffalo soon (next year).

I'm in town for work training this week. Today is the last day and we will probably get out early, probably around 3. This may be one of my view chances to ever make it to this park would it be worth going until 8 tonight? Is there an afternoon entry fee discount or any other discount like at a grocery store? Thank you for your information guys

Is Marineland worth a visit?
pryonisys replied to bert425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I loved the place when I was a kid. Dragon Mountain was my first big steel coaster. I went back about 10 years ago though and was kind of sad about the park. I was likely influenced however by understanding more about what was going on behind the scenes and the idealistic memories of the park from my childhood. I'd say it's still worth a visit, but the park needs some love, change, and updating. (still worth a visit in my mind) The drop tower (especially when facing the falls) has an amazing view. -

Well that answers the question I had about where that ride would fit. It's nice to see the park I grew up with continuing to get love. I hope that somehow Erie figures out a way to fix all the issues that they have (not park related) so that Waldameer has the capability (and a good reason) to keep improving. I also thought Ravine Flyer was very smooth last year, but I'm happy that they are continuing to maintain it so well. -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
pryonisys replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Firechaser Express the last week of March (last train of the day, it was a walk-on after being a 90 minute wait most of the day) -
I just got temporarily excited that I may have a chance to visit this park (just found out work is sending me to Atlanta for training in May, but checked the hours and the days I'll be in the area the park closes at 7 (and where I'll be doing training is on the other side of the city so it would take until almost 6 to get to the park). Sad times. Maybe some other time in the eventual future.
