  1. ^I'm sure the single day tickets will be honored as well. And until the park re-opens the Gold Pass's value hasn't changed, at this point if you only get 2021 out of it (which is highly likely) the value did not change at all. You only got one season.
  2. People still think COVID-19 is fake.. soo.... I find this interesting. Obviously plans like this are done well in advance, but I am curious to see if this actually happens in 2021 or gets pushed back to 2022 due to circumstances with the COVID-19.
  3. ^I would just go ahead and cancel at this point. I seriously doubt the park will be ready to open in a month, especially if they also have a freeze on hiring. However, you can wait it out? Most cancellation policies are up to 24 hours before traveling. So I'm sure another week or two of waiting won't hurt your refund. I am at the point that I would be shocked that any seasonal park opens before July 4th. Unless some states just say "f**k it" and lift restrictions. But being an Ohioan I do not see our governor lifting restrictions any time soon, and when they do lift, I doubt amusement parks will be the first to be lifted.
  4. Welp, there goes Jersey Devil being ready when the park re-opens. At SF has a reasonable excuse this time..
  5. Agreed, but they've also upgraded my membership to Diamond (after a year ago upgrading it for free to Platinum). I'm now paying $6/mo for the second highest tier they have and I feel like encouraging this behaviour. So what you're saying is I can threaten to cancel my membership all the way up to Diamond Elite if I do it enough times?
  6. You could donate the $50 for the future financial health of the company!
  7. Welcome to insanity, welcome to the longest off-season ever. I'll typically say lets enjoy this season before speculating about the future additions to the park. But I think that carries more weight than ever now. Lets worry about 2020 happening before we start speculating on rides that probably won't happen ever. Or if they do, probably not till 2023 at the earliest as companies try to recover from a possible lost season.
  8. CP Food Blog has a screen shot of an email going around saying Administrative offices are closed indefinitely. With seasonal work also not available indefinitely. With that... I would be shocked if CP opens before Labor Day or if at all in 2020. I know it's still crazy early, but without a widely spread vaccine and no hiring going on.. it'll be a nightmare to staff Point, even more so than normal. Stay safe everyone, I for one will admit I did not take this seriously. It's surreal. Be safe, wash your hands and stay the f**k home if possible!
  9. ^^That all depends on if/when states lift restrictions. Dewine (thankfully) has been pretty on top of restrictions to flatten the curve. He was the first Governor to close schools, cancel events, limit gatherings, etc. I don't see him relaxing the restrictions early just to get a few seasonal businesses to re-open. IF a treatment or vaccine is approved (which it won't be by summer) then things can start to normalize, but until a vaccine is produced and widely available I just don't see much in the way of parks re-opening. Other states may choose to relax restrictions but I do not see Ohio doing it any time soon.
  10. I chose to take the free upgrade and keep the membership going for now.. Luckily I work in an essential business and can keep it going. I haven't given up on 2020 yet, but if parks open/re-open before July I would be shocked at this point.
  11. Just apply, you'll get hired. Amusement parks are ALWAYS hiring when in season, literally I doubt there is any park that stops. Turn over is always high and most can never meet their required numbers anyways. I would submit an application online if you haven't already, they will most likely call, interview and give you a tentative start date, maybe even send you paperwork to fill out to be ready to go and start training as soon as they're allowed to let you be on-site. They will want to open as soon as possible. When you turn 18 you can look at working at parks with dorms, like Disney or CP. EDIT: I'll echo what others are saying as a former ride op and one who made it to a supervisor and hired. -Be ready to work long hours on hot days. Depending on your states labor laws that could be 12-14 hour days, 5-6 days a week. -You will work in all weather extremes, hot, cold, raining, etc. Depending on attendance or how extreme they may send you home early, but plan on being there. -People are a**holes to you for doing your job, don't take it personally. People are just miserable. But be friendly, reliable, show up on time, and you'll have a great experience. Working at SFWoA/GL were the best 5 summers of my life. My best friends to this day are fellow ride ops and park employees. You do really meet the best people and make life long relationships. Half of my friends married people they met working at the parks. Some have even gone onto fulltime director level positions within SF and CF. (and they still won't tell me future ride plans!) Just be yourself!
  12. Still not a bet I would put money on! To be serious, would building a roller coaster be considered "essential" to the government if a stay at home order is in place? Maybe? But honestly, it shouldn't be for the safety of the workers.
  13. I purchased a flight to Orlando at end of April, still a month away. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the next month. Going to hold out as long as possible before canceling, it was only $40 so really not concerned over losing the cash if I don't get a refund or credit.
  14. IF parks like Fantasy Island and Indiana Beach do permanently close their doors I could easily see Alabama Adventure picking up some of their rides. I know there is some tax incentives to try and save IB, not sure if anything similar is going on up in NY. We'll have to wait and see, hopefully with everything going on they continue to grow and have a good 2020 season.
  15. ^Just speaking outta my butt here, so don't take this as expert opinion, but it should only take a few days to get the park ready to re-open from a shut down. However, that is all dependent on what actually shuts down. If parks are keeping their maintenance teams working through all this then from a rides/attractions stand point there really shouldn't be much of a delay. Foods would be a big question mark. Re-stocking items that are perishable with possible supply chain delays. The park could re-open with limited food items that were frozen, burgers, fries, hot dogs, etc. Not the normal Dollywood fare. May be some delay on cinnamon bread!! Team members still need to be trained, Dollywood has some advantage here with their team as the park is open more than your average seasonal park, but there would still be some time needed to hire, process and train new team members. But I think a week of "prep" time would be sufficient for a park like Dollywood once things start to normalize. That's just a wild, un-educated guess. Could be less, could be more. But since they were already ready to open, there shouldn't be too much to bring back up to speed to re-open to the public.
  16. From this point forward, Fast Lane will be what it is. Don't expect any discounts. Only discounts you can expect on FL+ at this point (who knows if things will change due to strange circumstances in 2020) is the in-park Platinum Pass discount. Which is FL+ for the price of FL, but this is an in park purchase only deal and not available if you pre-purchase online.
  17. Taking advantage of the flight prices and booked a $40 round trip flight on Frontier to Orlando at the end of April. *shrugg* At the end of the day, if things are still shut down by April 27th I'm only out $40. But I'm gonna take advantage of this and live my life while I can! lol Never tell me the odds!
  18. I definitely don't see it as a negative for any small to medium park. Will one of these show up at Point? Probably not. But for KD I think it would be an awesome addition even tho personally I dont really enjoy the flipping. I also wouldn't mind at all if CF took a page from the SF book and added these to multiple parks, maybe Valleyfair and/or MIA (haha who am I kidding right?) and WoF could all be candidates for one of these if it goes over well at KD or if there is one of those mythical package deals where they get a discount to buy more than one.
  19. On a serious note, I do wonder how this will effect staffing at parks who rely heavily on international staffing from Asian countries. It could be even more painful for parks like CP to get their international staffing this season. I see this being the biggest impact to parks this summer. Also, anyone who wants essential oils hit me up jkjk
  20. Karen on Facebook told me to use Lavender Oils I can get from her totally not MLM business she has going. So I plan on doing that whilst also putting raw potato slices in my socks to pull out any toxins from my body while I visit parks. I am also knitting surgical masks for anyone interested.
  21. I was thinking this too when the de-construction of the old Gwazi structure was pretty much complete. There can't be much more that 20% of the original ride left. This is probably the most "ground-up" conversion we have seen so far. I'll be in Tampa in November, can anyone predict the weather, crowd size and if this ride will be open by then? /s
  22. I rode Batman at SFFT and hated it.. like really hated it. Then I tried Joker at both SFGAdv and SFGAm (for the credit lol) and they were both much more tolerable but not something I would ride more than once a trip. So maybe I need to give each one a shot.
  23. I don't dislike them cause they're clones. I dislike flipping uncontrollably lol, which is the whole point of the ride. Just a personal preference. I think they're are great, probably economical coasters for parks. I am honestly surprised we haven't seen any smaller parks install any. Is the one in Japan the only install outside of the SF chain to date?
  24. I was curious if CF would jump on one of these for a smaller park, I assumed Valleyfair or *cough cough* MIA. It'll be interesting to see if this happens. Even though I just commented how much I hate these things in another thread. If I start a rumor about a Vekoma Bermuda Blitz model coming to KD, think it can gain enough steam and good juju to convince CF to make it happen?
  25. I am losing my love for Steel Vengeance. It's honestly just too much for me. It's fun, and I'll ride it, so I wouldn't say I HATE it. But I just don't enjoy it. I don't think this is a stretch, but S&S 4D Free Spins. I genuinely hate that flipping and spinning on those style rides.
