Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
WolfBobs replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm really excited for this announcement. HW still seems pretty darn good at keeping their Cap Ex investments under wraps until they're ready to announce. Still think this is a waterpark addition or some sort of "water coaster." But I'll just say my coaster enthusiasts wet dream would be for a Intamin Megalite to pop up here.. Or maybe a Mack version. -

The last new Coaster in your Count

Steel Curtain was my last new to me ride. I was kinda excited for it and I left thinking it was just meh. Maybe anticipointment? But while it was a good ride and a nice addition to the Kennywood line up it's probably a one and done for me while I focus on Phantom's Revenge, Thunderbolt and Jack Rabbit. Interestingly enough, both my nephews who are blossoming coaster nerds both preferred Sky Rocket to Steel Curtain. lol -

Does that really matter when it's about perceived value? The low monthly cost vs a high up front cost? I made the decision to get a SF membership cause to me they're dirt cheap (especially the lowest tier that still includes parking) and I live 4 hours from the closest SF park. A park which wasn't even in the chain at the time of getting my membership. There will be plenty of people who go the membership route if it fits in better with their lifestyle, finances, etc regardless of the parks operating calendar. It's about getting 12 months of incoming revenue and not 6. If this is about a membership program I know I'll definitely look into it and weigh my options and see what's better for me personally. -

You can purchase tickets at the Marina gate and Magnum gate (not sure about by Windseeker). Not sure about pass processing as it's just electronically attaching your photo to the account. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

Probably because teasers aren't really meant for enthusiasts as they're the only ones nerdy enough to go to city hall once a week and look for blueprints and permit filings. So by the time they start, especially at a park like KI that has to submit all that stuff to the local government there's no surprise. So why work yourself up? I just wanna know the announcement date. Teasers are meant for the average daily visitor to learn something new is coming and invest in a new season pass. That's all. Most enthusiasts still can't comprehend that parks don't revolve around them. They're ads. -

You can get there from the front lot now that the "boardwalk" has been built, so nah, they won't let you back there if you aren't going to the water park. This seems to have changed back to allowing anyone to use that back lot. I have yet to be stopped or asked on my way back there. I haven't heard of anyone being turned away this season for not being a CPS guest. And I've parked there each time on my 6 visits and have yet to step foot inside the waterpark. -

The funny thing is I feel the complete opposite. I'm in my mid 30s and I've now just starting going to parks alone. I just enjoy it. lol I don't do it for all my trips. But usually 1 or 2 a year I just say F* it and go alone. Same thing with dining out and going to movies alone. I prefer to hang w friends or family but I won't stop people being flakey or people not wanting to go to ruin my enjoyment. -

Rollo is Nestle.... nope - in the USA, it's Hershey Even looked it up on Wiki just now: Rolo (pronounced /ˈrəʊləʊ/), referring to the roll-styled candy, is a brand of truncated-cone-shaped or frustum-shaped chocolates with a caramel middle. First manufactured in the United Kingdom by Mackintosh's in 1937 (followed by Rowntree's after the takeover in 1969), they are made by Nestlé, except in the United States where production has been licensed to The Hershey Company. Same thing with KitKat. Made by Nestle all over the world except in the US where they are made by Hershey. -

That's an odd thought, I would think there are more animals with claws that like water then don't. But I'm no zoologist. I think most people are thinking waterpark due to an animal tease. Animals live in the jungle or you can see them on a "safari." Also tigers which are big cats and have claws love the water! Now obviously any dry ride or coaster can be themed to an animal as well so it's not a lock to be in the waterpark. But I think it's a safe assumption. Personally I would love to see a new steel coaster pop up, but I'm not expecting it. -

Your unrealistic enthusiast expectations are getting outta hand! I personally would wait for 2020. There probably won't be anything GIGAntic going in for the 150th. Especially with KI opening their new B&M. But as was mentioned above you could combine KI and CP into one trip and get that really nice 150th Anniversary T-shirt! -

Also don't get the love for Melt. Sadly I think it's starting to fall into the over expanded and quality suffers category. When it was 1 or 2 locations it was kinda a must go to local place. Small, intimate with good food. Now it's expanded and the food just seems blah to meh now. Same thing seems to be happening to Barrio, they've expanded so much lately I've been disappointed the last few times I've gone. B&M bbq is terrible, never go there. With all that said, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more local places take over the chains in CP. Tony Packo's from Toledo to replace Pink's for example. Start to highlight the entire region of northern Ohio and not just Cleveland. -

As a resident of Ohio I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Ohio is lacking in good to great BBQ. It's getting better with places like Mabel's (Iron Chef and Cleveland native Michel Symon owned) in Cleveland and a small local chain called Oak & Ember. But for the most part Ohio and especially northern Ohio is lacking in good BBQ. -

The fact that Steel Vengeance reopened the same day (with 1 train) after a bump should show this isn't a season long closure unless officially announced by the park. Since it's been as long as its been it's obviously not an easy fix. But I don't see CP keeping a marquee attraction closed all season if they can get it open it repaired, recertified by the state if required and ready to go, it'll open. Even if it's closing weekend. Until something is officially announced by the park I'll file this in the "fake news" bin! lol -
Also parks are constantly tracking attendance, by the hour at most parks. They have the data to justify their hours for maximum profit. A couple years ago CP tried their "summer nights" thing with midnight closes most of July and August. If you look at the calendar how it's back to just Fridays and Saturdays. If I recall correctly after most parks in the CF chain underperformed on attendance last year they flat out stated in either their 3rd or 4th quarter conference calls that schedules would better align with demand. It's only good business to be open when there's demand. For Darian Lake that may mean more 8-9pm closes or shut the rides at 930p but keep shops open till 10 to get the stragglers who may have stayed for a show. Parks to everything for a reason and they have the data to back it up. They want to maximize profits, if that meant staying open till 1am they would.

Haha you can't be serious. Listen I'm with you guys - assigned seating is lame. But when ya'll start saying ridiculous sh*t like picking your seat is a "liberty that is being taken away" lmao. Dramatic much? It never was a liberty. Parks are private property and they can enact any rule they want. Some parks don't allow you to pick your row on anything, some don't care at all. Groupers are just doing their jobs, which exist specifically to make the line move faster, and they've been around for as long as theme parks have. I'll have to agree with this one. Nothing you do at a park is a "liberty." You are a customer and are expected to follow their rules and policies. Don't like it? Don't go. -

Yeaa I doubt the train was moving 40mph. With my limited understanding of physics and inertia there probably would've been more damage and injuries. Also for the train to gain that much speed after the magnetic brakes I would assumed every single one of the non-magnetic brakes would've had to fail. I don't see that happening.. on any ride let alone a B&M. My guess would be the very last set of brakes, the set on the transfer track failed and the ride rolled into the station and bumped the train. Probably only going 5-10mph. But I know nothing, and make no claim to be an engineer lol. Hope everyone who was on either train is okay, I'm sure it was a scary moment for all involved. -
When I was an op at SFWoA we were instructed to open our lines when our ride was ready to open. However, that typically only meant 5-10 minutes before rope drop. People need to realize that every ride goes through required maintenance over night and early morning and needs to be inspected and signed off that they're okay to operate before ride ops can even begin their morning opening procedures and testing. It's not as simple as turning the ride off at close and turning it back on in the morning. This can take awhile as most parks probably only have between 5-10 overnight mechanics and maybe double that for morning/day shift mechanics. Some mechanics are dedicated to only 1-2 rides when it comes to coasters. Other mechanics could have between 5-10 rides they're responsible for. Sadly it's not a 1:1 ratio. As good as parks like Point are even they don't have 1 mechanic per ride.

*facepalm* I really hope that was a poor attempt at sarcasm. Can anyone tell from that video if the train was loaded or empty? I couldn't really tell from that angle, distance and length of video. Knowing Point Gatekeeper will be ready to go no later then noon today. Even if it's just two train op while this train waits to be returned to the track. I doubt management is going to want a train to be chilling next to the main gate by the time guests start to show up this morning. -

Sometimes I wonder why some people are in this hobby if they're so miserable. Not every new coaster needs to have mind blowing stats (on paper since this isn't built yet) to be amazing. I'll keep using I305 as my example as this ride has similar unconfirmed stats. Enthusiasts LOVE I305, most drool over it. Yet, this ride, which appears to be similar in height and length is being s**t on left and right by enthusiast snobs just because it doesn't meet their wet dream expectations. Can we at least wait until we ride rides to judge them? And not s**t all over a park, a park who has numbers and research to justify their CapEx spending as well as a budget to work with before the ride is even built, let alone announced officially.
