Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

Literally every fan base ever for every park. Too many people in this hobby are entitled and ungrateful. Even when rides like Steel Vengeance or Yukon Striker get announced there are people who have to complain cause it wasn't EXACTLY what they wanted or assumed it would be. The b*tching will increase once it's officially announced and we have all the details. -

Length may be effected if there are budget concerns. CF didn't have a strong 2018, so maybe this is way its so "short" in appearance in these prints. Until any sort of official announcement is made all we can do is fangirl and speculate. However, I kinda dug that layout in the NoLimits video. A shorter in length could be fun as it could really keep its speed throughout. Look at Mako, it's stats don't impress but people love it. Someone estimated off the prints it could be around 5300' long which puts it longer than I305 (at 5100' listed per RCDB) and just shorter than Leviathan. So not bad. Just not the record breaker people expected. Regardless I'm pumped for a new B&M at KI in 2020. -

Arrow also designed rides without CAD for most of their existence so it's a little different. -

^Seems like a common problem with S&S lately. At least between this and Gale Force. Curious if Maxx Force at SFGAm will have any similar issues. -

I assume it's primer as well, but not gonna lie I'm kinda digging the steel grey look of it. I would not be upset at all if that was the color they went with. Also, with the land clearing going in the direction it's going. I also think a nice matte black would be awesome. Think of the night rides back in the woods if the track is so dark it almost disappears. -

^It sure does look to be gone. Panda was still listed as a dining location and on the map posted on the previous page for the 2019 dining plan. So if it was removed the decision was made after that 2019 dining plan map was approved and posted. Could they have decided to tear down and rebuild this late in the off season for some reason? Be interesting to find out, also nothing about it being gone was mentioned from Winter ChillOut. -

I 100% am on the giga bandwagon as I was when I was sure Mystic Timbers would be a giga (before the layout leaked). BUT, I'm keeping this quoted for accountability just in case! -

Quick little shout out to the new restaurant at KI the Miami River Brewhouse. Grabbed lunch there and enjoyed the set up. You order at the register, they give you one of those little paging disks you get at restaurants, go find a seat and then they bring you your food. Total time from ordering to receiving my meal was about 5-7 mins give or take, not bad for opening day IMO. Anyways, I usually don't make a big deal about food at most parks but boy did CF really step up their game here. I got the Pubhouse Burger and I will honestly say it tasted amazing. The burgers themselves tasted fresh and not frozen (can not confirm if they are frozen or not). And in general it was one of the best burgers I've had at a CF park. Honestly reminded me of Shake Shack. 8/10 would recommend. My nephews both got the pulled pork sliders and loved them and my brother got their hot dog loaded with beer cheese, sauerkraut and mustard and enjoyed that as well. Definitely digging the new direction CF is taking with food ops and it's giving me some hope of what CP is adding this year. Glad to see them focusing on better quality and service. -

I'll bet it's the new version of the Battle for Cedar Point that they've done the last couple of years, where people vote for which coaster they like best. https://www.cedarpoint.com/play/events/monster-jam-thunder-alley Did this crazy thing... went to Cedar Point's official page. It's a limited time experience that allows humans to interact with Monster trucks in partnership with Monster Jam. Details can be read at the above link. -

I actually prefer the vest restraints as well. But either or wouldn't bother me. Not to overlook Yukon Striker and 2019, but looking at the updated map I just can't help but think how much of an improvement a B&M wing or invert would be in the spot of Flight Deck and Time Warp. Sigh. lol -

Yeah, no. These coasters are pretty different after the first inversion. I'm pretty pumped for this ride tbh. I've been on 4 Dive Coasters and I have loved each one. I'm returning to CW this year for Yukon Striker. Really looking forward to it. Edit: Now that I watched the video from the link you posted, not really sure how you'd say they are "exactly the same coaster..." Valravn was in the midcourse before Yukon Striker completed it's second inversion. They're very different layouts. -

Very exciting to see this park and area grow and continue to find success. Between OWA and ASA's continue growth I might find myself planning a quick weekend trip to Alabama in the next few seasons. -

Parks don’t care about this sh*t, only enthusiasts do. But if the steel to wood ratio is off the "GP" will stop going to Carowinds! -

I'm hoping for something along the lines of Oscar's Wacky Taxi or FireChaser Express. CP could really use 1 or 2 new modern family friendly coasters. Something with a height requirement around 40-42" with an adult. -

Bill summed it up well but I'll add a few tidbits from a local perspective... I never use FL (except the free one given when I renew my pass) and say yes, get it. Even if you can only afford it for 1 day during your trip at least get it that one day. There are usually some pretty good deals for admission + FL on their website if you're only planning a day or 2. Keep an eye out. 3 or more days and I would recommend a Platinum Pass. If you don't want to or can't afford the extra cash for FL+ I'd recommend May weekdays before Memorial Day for the smallest crowds but be warned you're more likely to experience short staffing, closed food stands/gift shops/rides due to said short staffing and shorter hours of operation. It's a take and give. Same issues will be present after Labor Day. Halloweekends are fun but can be a nightmare with crowds and staffing. If it's in your budget to stay at Breakers do it. Resort perks and ease of access to the park are worth it. If time and money are no concern I would check out the events calendar on their website and see if anything appeals to you. Brew and BBQ is awesome and they are doing a new event in Frontier Town/Trail this year that was just announced in June. Summer nights has midnight closings select days and fireworks. Also note this seasons new attraction Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island is not scheduled to open until Memorial Day I believe. While not a coaster it's new and should be fun to check out. EDIT: Just checked the parks website and it looks like the Frontier Festival is taking the place of Brew & BBQ this year. Sorry about that. -

I mean are you saying you won't ride a hyper if it's themed to butterflies? All I am saying is just because an area is meant to appeal to families it doesn't mean that it only has to appeal to families with small children. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

Dollywood has mentioned again and again that Wildwood Grove is meant for families. A large, extreme roller coaster for that area would go completely against its mission. In one of the other areas, or in and around Wild Eagle and Mountain Slidewinder? Sure. But not Wildwood Grove. True, but... families consist of more than just mom, dad, and 2.5 children under 10. So adding one or maybe two larger more thrilling rides doesn't necessarily take away from this mission, to me in my opinion add to the family experience. Plus, if the hyper could have a 48" height requirement (Do Mack hypers have this? Never ridden one) plenty of kids could ride with their older siblings or parents. Dollywood already has the lowest height requirement of any B&M I've ever seen, Wild Eagle is 50" when every other B&M with vests has a 52"minimum requirement. Wildfire at SDC with the classic B&M OTSR has a 52" requirement. To me this clearly shows they don't mind having a lower requirement to open larger rides to a wider demographic to keep families experiencing rides together. Will they add a hyper or large thrilling coaster to phase 2? I don't know. But I wouldn't be surprised if they did. After the issues with Lightning Rod I expect their next major coaster will be by someone with a proven track record for unmatched quality and up time. -

Maybe something in Owen's Farm? I mean, that section already has Barnstormer, but it doesn't have any roller coasters. I would say a launched one that goes out of the barn or a wild mouse, but Dollywood already has FireChaser and Lightning Rod, plus Wild Mouses aren't major thrills, so what do you think? I know we're getting ahead of ourselves since this expansion isn't even open yet but i'll go ahead and predict a B&M hyper (or Mack hyper). This would be the "star" attraction of Wildwood Grove. Everything in these updates looks amazing. Really hoping to find time to get back to Dollywood this season! -

The difference is you're an enthusiast who follows the industry and made a special trip for a ride. Enthusiasts do not make up a significant portion of the parks core audience and I would be surprise if we made up more than 1-2% of any given parks annual attendance. Families are the core demographic parks reach out to and SV didn't bring them in. The numbers show that as they took an attendance hit for most of the year prior to August and Halloweekends. Don't be surprised if there are longer periods of time between big, huge extreme thrill. We may still see coasters but I'm hoping personally for something along the lines of Firechaser Express or even a new modern mine ride style coaster with lower height restrictions. Dark ride, Long flume. The park has plenty of needs before needing any future big thrill machines. -

Not to shocked to hear this news as I first started to hear some whispers about it being removed in December. Just didn't take them to seriously. Take it with a grain of salt, but from the whispers it had a lot to due with stress fractures on the track, supports and bolts. And was just ungodly expensive to repair. True? Untrue? Idk, but sounds reasonable now that they officially announced it's removal. Hopefully more information will come out with time. Sigh, another credit left on the table. On my 4 lifetime visits to KD the ride was closed all day each visit. Definitely bummed I missed this one. I do wonder if they plan on keeping the mountain for future plans or if the whole thing will come down with the ride itself. -

Trust me, I think Golden Corral is complete and utter garbage. It's also a step or 3 above the quality that was found at Midway Market. That's how low my opinion is for what was served at Midway Market.
