Theme Park Careers
Capitalize replied to ETapley0687's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm getting a degree in media arts and design with a concentration in interactive media, but I've always hoped to work in the amusement industry in some level. Right now, however, parks are laying people off, so when I graduate next spring I'm just going to be looking for any job paying a decent wage... BGE always does an appearance at my schools career fairs so I'll talk to them to see if they have any openings next year in any case, though. -
I've been dating a girl or 3 years, she's aight. She puts up with me dragging her all over the place to ride roller coasters and watch sports so I can't complain.

I'm down with the ladies.

I've never bother working with lightbox, I prefer making my own photogalleries in CSS/html or flash. However, I have some experience in javascript in menus, roll over buttons, and using external javascripts. IMO, the easiest way to work with a javascrip is to apply is externally. Save it as a .js file outside of your index.html (and all others and what not) file and link to it in the head of the page you want the script to effect. Here is an example: Just place that in the . The script(s) you have in the .js will then apply to whatever .html files contain the link. here is my still under construction web site, if you look at the source file you can see how I linked to a .js file for my rollover images (links at top).

my face on a monster from SFOG's monster plantation. Done in horribly poor MS Paint style.

I'd like to get out to SFKK some day. Looks like a decent park and it can't be any worse then my local SFA.

Six Flags Profits Way Up
Capitalize replied to ajinaz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I did my part by spending the extra money to put my bag in a locker at essentially every ride at SFGAdv. My problem with the idea of selling parks is obviously SFA is the first or second one brought up and at this point it seems more likely that it would be a SFAW type sale where the park gets destroyed and eventually years later developed on. I strongly doubt Wild One would be saved, and that would just be too depressing for me. Its hard to really say what will happen in the end, though. Are there any sources that indicate a property by property cash flow? I'd like to see which if any parks aren't making ends meet before saying one park or another is going away. Seems if any of the remaining parks were hemorrhaging money horribly they would have already been sold years ago. Time will tell, in the meantime the 800,000 SF is selling two face for will certainly help.... -
Cypress Gardens Closing...

I really hope they keep the tower. That thing is awesome. I wonder if they could just keep starliner and the tower... Those are the only rides that are really all that important and all. -

lol, very true, pretty funny spectrum of opinions in this thread. I thought it was nice when I visited because it was essentially a bunch of moderately fun rides on one side with no wait and nice employees. Then the other side was just flat out beautiful and you could spend hours wandering around back there. The highlight was getting the fiesta express credit with the whole train to myself. Between the op lol'ing at me, and my dad taking plenty of pictures of me being a credit whore it was really fantastic. haha. -
My plan if I were to buy the place would be to first off make admission free and charge per-ride. The place has plenty of bars and shopping type places, get more restaurants and stores in there... Charge per ride. It seems attractions like that flourish in the area. Think broadway on the beach but with better rides.

I stayed down by Family Kingdom during my visit to Myrtle Beach and that was the most depressing part of a trip ever, walking down Ocean Blvd and seeing that huge open field where some decent rides and coasters once stood. Sigh. -

Ah, I love the random flavored popcorn store, the bars, and the carnival rides... Gotta love old town. Starliner would be a nice little addition down there. -

I had a good time there back in 2006 and hoped to get back when they finally put starliner up. My dad and I were able to walk around the park and do every ride with no wait one after another. There couldn't have been more then a couple hundred people in the park tops. But the employees were great, the gardens were beautiful, and I had a good time there. -
People Jumping the Line / Queue
Capitalize replied to aldredd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As a guest and worker at a park I've seen plenty of line cutting and every time it happens I become a crazy person, haha. As far as personal experiences go I used to love attending Wild One at SFA because people would always cut in line by jumping under the switch backs. I'd promptly yell at them "Go back! I'm not going to let you ride, go back and try again." Of course the kids didn't take me serious so I would stand in front of them and continually tell them "I'm not going to let you ride, go back and wait in line." Eventually they got it and went back like I asked. SFGADV is a pit when it comes to people cutting lines. El Toro is normally the worst. Every time I make it up there me and my group end up getting in yelling matches with a huge group trying to cut. This summer while waiting in line for Flight of Fear at KD the line was pretty long and these random younger kids kept sneaking past us and getting by before anyone had a chance to react and stop them. Finally we get to point in the line by the UFO and we could see the group reponsible, another kid walked byabnd when he reached them I asked "HEY!!! IS ANYONE ELSE GOINGTO COME AND CUT IN LINE? I'd like to know now!" The lady starts off yelling at me "This is my son! He needs to wait with us!" So I inform her "you've been in line for 40 minutes without him, if you're so concerned why the hell didn't he get in line with you to begin with?!" It was pretty hilarious, GP who act like such jerks like that annoy me beyond belief. -

Awesome looking park. I've always wanted to try Tower of Terror and Anaconda, neat looking rides. Didn't Tower of Terror have lap bar only trains when it was first opened? -
PTC Announces Single bench cars!!!

I think they look pretty neat, it'll be interesting to see these on a coaster hopefully in the near future. -
Why does it not suprise me?after all SFNE is Shapiro's favorite in the chain just because he's got family up there which shouldn't be an excuse to spoil that park rotten while deliberately ignoring ours year after year. All we'll see next season is the removal of Two Face & a nice empty spot that'll be filled in by a show stage or character dressing room instead of a replacement ride .Shapiro & Snyder don't give a rat's rear end about the park & want to see it fail so they can have an excuse to close it in the manner that CF was ultimately forced to do with GL last season. Yeah, although that stage they put on Iron Eagle's old platform looks pretty nifty.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
Capitalize replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Its a fine ride, a bit rough but still good. Can't wait to get to the park this Saturday for my final trip. Apparently Volcano will be getting new trains next season as well. Yeah that's what I hear as well. Most likely they'll have integrated seating mounts instead of the bolt together mounts much like the rehab that Voodoo's train recieved this season....still I'm more looking forward to the flats from GL,especially that ferris wheel. Me too, that ferris wheel in particular is going to look fantastic at the park. I'm very excited. Which ones do you have in mind? Shockwave and Avalanche could use some TLC for sure. It feels like just yesterday Anaconda got its orange paint job... I hope they go back to the dark green... Looked better back then imo. -
I say the 90's, to me it was truly the epitome of good days for coasters and amusement parks. There was something trully awesome about every single season looking forward to a new park building the world tallest/fastest/longest/inverted, looping, wood, etc. coaster. Every single year bigger and faster coasters built all over the place, and the B&M's were always fantastic back then... The 2000's are also great with the incredible innovations we're seeing every year, but I feel nostalgic towards the 90's...
