Batwing ran both trains and used both stations a few different days last year. I must've gone 4 times and I think they were using both on 2 of those days. And I'm pretty sure they were running both when I went earlier this year, but I might be mixing up visits. I tend to go on weekdays only so that probably makes it highly unlikely for me to see two train operation, I haven't been to the park on a weekend in at least 2 years. But its definitely been a while since I've seen it personally.

ACTUALLY, for a VERY brief time, SFA actually was running Batwing with the trains reclining on the lift. Technically, there was a sensor right before the lift and as each car past the sensor, the car individually began to recline. I had the unique opportunity to ride it just once when it reclined on the lift. It was a very unique experience and increased dispatch time considerably. Unfortunately, the following season, they removed the hardware that allows the trains to recline as they begin their assent up the lift hill (as well as the hardware to allow the trains to begin to incline before they were fully in the station). Apparently, it was causing a lot of electronic problems that were shutting down the ride because since they removed the hardware, the reliability has increased significantly. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe SFA's Vekoma Flyer is the ONLY one to ever successfully recline on the lift... even if it was for just a VERY short time... I remember this as well. In fact it was a very exciting day for me as I remember them using both stations and the train reclining on the lift. Kind of like: "Holy crap! This thing is finally running as designed!" I haven't even seen two train operation on that ride for at least a season or two now, unfortunately.

I don't know about that. During the weekdays in the summer the place has a tendency to be overrun by local day cares and families in the area. See, I think SFA finally realized that they were just getting tweens and not many families. A lot of my friends refuse to go to SFA with families because the general crowd that lingers there. I think this new Thomas Town is SFA's attempt to get back on the map with the families as well as compete with KD's "new" Planet Snoopy. But then again, KD is getting I305 as well so, yeah... Between 96 & 02 SFA was doing just fine at drawing in the crowds, both families & young adults,it's when the influx of new rides & money to maintain exisiting rides/infrastructure stopped coming in that things began to go downhill. Add in a management team that wanted to help out but was constrained by the will of the corporate bigwigs making all the decisions & that just made the park worse.Aside from the lack of new theme park rides the worst thing the park did was horribly mismanage their flashpass system which is another thing that really prevents me from wanting to go back even if they get chang(which they probably won't) in 2011. Who needs a flashpass at SFA? Unless you want to get everything done in a couple hours or less on a weekend in the summer/frightfest they're not at all needed... You are such a naegative Nancy...

Worst Theme Park Experience
Capitalize replied to deathbydinn's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The worst day I had at a park was SFGAdv back in August of 07; we had a day in August picked out for weeks as being the day we would go, the day before I had to go back to school for the semester and couldn't make the long trip out there again. We made the 3-4 hour trip up there that morning where it was raining a bit, enjoyed a couple rides with no lines, then the park closed suddenly just after noon without any warning and we drove 3-4 hours home. It was a fine trip if only to get a couple rides on Nitro, but between the driving for hours, paying for the toll roads between DC and Jersey, and finally paying $15 to park we weren't happy to have only spent a couple hours in the park. -
I was pretty apathetic about the whole movie. I didn't like any of the characters and grew generally tired of the whole thing pretty quickly. I wouldn't say it was awful but I probably wouldn't watch it again. As far as relating to it as a former employee at a park, I didn't get that very much at all. I felt their depiction was really far off from reality in a lot of ways. Its been a while since I've seen it so I can't really comment too much on specifics since I don't remember them... Edit: one thing I do remember not sitting right with me was the age of the employees. I felt like they just tacked on their age being over 21 so they could show them going to bars and drinking and what not. No one over 21, let alone with a college degree, would be working games at an amusement park... It would have probably felt more realistic to me if the main character was just getting ready to attend undergrad school and they were in high school or just getting out of high school.

In one day its a toss up between SROS @ SFA, Wild One @ SFA, and Alpengeist @ BGE. Overall its gotta be Wild One @ SFA. I couldn't possibly count how many times I've ridden it in the past decade of living in the area and having a pass to the park. No line ever combined with a fantastic airtime and lateral filled ride result in countless re-rides. I couldn't stand more then five rides on my trip to Hard Rock Park last summer because I got so darn tired of sitting through the pre-show everytime. And when I tried to walk through they yelled at me even though I was the only person waiting...

Anyone else prefer Vekoma SLC's?
Capitalize replied to jmccalip's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The comparison as I see it: SLC - Horrifically rough, among the roughest coasters in existence. Some minor forces exist and some of the elements are pretty neat, and the foot-choppers are really awesome. However, it is still ridiculously rough. BTR - Mostly very smooth, especially considering their age (for the older models). Awesome positive g's that can at times make me black out (SFOG's BTR made me black out while sitting in the back almost every time during the second vertical loop and the 3/4 helix turn after it). A fast, compact, relentless ride experience. For me there is no competition, BTR wins every time. Even on Geauga Lake's SLC (now at Michigan's Adventure) which was incredibly smooth I didn't think it was nearly as good as a BTR. -
Roller Coaster Demolition Photos

Ahhh, the worst ride I've ever been on being taken down to make way for the BEST ride I've ever been on. Excellent. Seriously, Viper was a God awful ride... I hope Scorpion would find a home at a different park rather then be scrapped entirely. But I'm biased because that was my first looping ride and I've always had a soft spot in my heart for it... I love any Schwarzkopf, though, brilliant guy with some amazing coasters. -
La Ronde Discussion Thread

Good point, the GP will more then likely not notice or care as much as enthusiasts will. Or they'll just appreciate Vampire even more... -
La Ronde Discussion Thread
Capitalize replied to Skyscraper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Seems they're going to keep it, unless thats something they didn't want to announce yet... Six Flags just continues to defy all logic lately. I really just cannot understand at all the point of La Ronde adding an SLC. -
SFOG already has Scorcher so that's ruled out.My guess is,aside from SFGRAM either SFGRADV or SFNE since ole' Sharpie's got family up there....oh & let's not forget about SFOT as well. SFA is just gonna end up being GL'd in a few years time & cannibalized for it's rides to keep the other parks going. Alright, I would like to hear a literal, right now, on the spot prediction of when that will happen. You've been "calling" this for ages, so I'd like to know a specific year prediction.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

Wow, sounds like KI is stepping it up this year. Wish I could make it over there, sounds like a great haunt. -
A detailed investigation would have happened no matter what the outcome of this accident was or whether or not video was released. Do you think the park or manufacturer would really just shrug their shoulders and continue business as usual and hope it doesn't happen again? We wouldn't see the results of the investigation if it didn't make the news. Now media outlets will do all the hard work for us and/or KBF/DOSH will come out with a statement when the investigation is complete. Usually if you wanted to see DOSH ride reports, I believe you would have to go to a DOSH office, pay a fee, fill out an application to get the report, then wait for them to get back to you. Has ANYONE actually bothered to do that unless the accident made the news? That's true, we wouldn't have had a good idea of what happens with the investigation without the media and this video. But I'm mostly thinking those steps would have still taken place, we just wouldn't have known about it as much, if at all. Basically I'm not sure this video or the coverage it has received would have drastically changed Knott's/Intamin/California's reaction in doing an investigation and fixing the problem. I do agree though that thanks to this video and the news we will have a better of what happens following the incident.

KDFAN's Orlando Trip
Capitalize replied to KDFAN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So Sea World has a later in the day admission? Interesting, since I normally only go there for the coasters thats something to look into. I agree with you on Sheikra, I definitely enjoy it more then Griffon. -
Its way off to the far left after entering the park. If I remember correctly it was in the same direction as the kiddie coaster. Its called Pistolero Roundup.
-
Yeah I just kind of happened upon it. Didn't even know it was there until I saw a short line of people getting on the dark ride cars; lots of fun and far better quality then I was expecting for sure.

Pretty hard to believe, I remember when Chang first opened and it seemed to be the ride that was supposed to put SFKK on the map, unfortunately then nothing else of note really seemed to ever be added after that and the park just kind of dwindled in mediocrity year after year. I really think that moving this ride to SFGAm seems kind of stupid. Isn't that park pretty land locked as it is? Count me among people that thinks that this ride would be a better addition elsewhere.

I thought Family Kingdom's shoot-em-up dark ride themed to mexico or w/e was better then Nights in White Satin (and I love that song and the Moody Blues in general)... The walk through at the beginning was cool, but the actual ride I thought wasn't too great at all. Swamp Fox is definitely my favorite ride in Myrtle Beach, the airtime is awesome. Although the ride is a bit on the short I love it.
