  1. I'm kind of torn about using these systems. When I went to Ocean City, Maryland the Jolly Roger parks used a similar system but with cards. I think it actually kept me from riding more rides because I typically put on the exact amount of money needed for one ride on the coasters and left it at that.
  2. Anymore? What did they have before that was removed that was particularly fun? Two Face was OK, Iron Eagle was OK...
  3. I actually wasn't planning on renewing my SFA pass this season because I already got a CF Maxx Pass and figured most of my free time would spent driving to KD to ride I305, but then they seat me the email telling me my pass was already in the mail and it was only $50 to activate, so I figure I will now...
  4. I'm not sure its really a matter of keeping them a secret. Based on how half-hearted the blog and photo gallery have been maintained over the months of construction; I think the trains weren't unloaded yet from the crates so they said screw it and just snapped a quick photo...
  5. Yeah, its hard to see what type of harness if any is attached to the pull down lap bar part...
  6. Superman - Wild One - Batwing are my favorites. As for Thomas Town, I'm very excited for the park and the families who visit. I'll likely step foot in the area once or twice next season just to see what its like; but its GREAT to see SFA finally getting a large addition to the amusement park side. Now hopefully 2011 will bring an addition for the big kids.
  7. You can see the back of a car in the photo gallery. Still in shrink wrap and on a crate so you can't get a good look at them, and most importantly the restraints. It is some kind of pull down over the head restraint, hard to see what the OTSRs look like.
  8. Michigan's Adventure is a nice, smaller-sized park. I enjoyed my day there a couple summers back quite a bit. As far as Cedar Fair investing in the park goes, I think Michigan's Adventure and those who frequent the park should be glad that Cedar Fair has continued to operate the park as it is. Apparently they have found it lucrative to operate a smaller sized park for that region's families to attend, if anything over-expanding and trying to make the park into something much larger than it currently is seems like a recipe for disaster. I do think Demon Drop should have gone to MA, though.
  9. Wolverine Wildcat only has one train as well, correct?
  10. I really hope not, Led Zep was easily one of the worst B&M's I had ever been on. I'd describe it as being barely mediocre at best. Hopefully when/if HW goes for a steel ride they get a good one...
  11. Good point, in the case of a multimillion ride like Chang I figure Six Flags would want to opt for returning the site to its original state (getting rid of footers, etc.) if at all possible.
  12. I fail to see any logic in the interpretation of a leasing contract that says any rides erected would belong to the state; sounds like a stupid contract to have in the first place... If Six Flags bought the rides then they should be able to move them out. I can see why the rides added before Six Flags took over could be the fair's, but that's about it. Seems like it would be similar to my landlord walking into my apartment at the end of a a lease and telling me that all the furniture I purchased and added is now his...
  13. No more fun? Really? There's no movie theaters or bowling alleys or parents basements to hang out in? Young people will always find something to do, this will not have any correlation to crime imho.
  14. I said first, not only. First east of the Mississippi in any event.
  15. There really aren't any signs indicating the same things are happening to SFA. The only thing that makes SFA look bad at the moment is the fact they haven't received a major coaster for a number of years, and in that time they have removed a good number of rides. On the flip side, they are receiving a massive Thomas Town and apparently a new thrilling attraction in 2011. And the rides removed over the past couple seasons were all maintenance nightmare; and the same ride models were removed from other parks due to the same issues. Time will tell what Six Flags wants to do there. I really hope that if Six Flags does intend to get rid of SFA they sell it as a park and don't Astoworld it. SFA has potential, Six Flags has managed to completely fail at properly harnessing it in many areas. Both Ford Plants are STRUGGLING!!! Thousands of layoffs and contract buyouts over the last couple of years. The Explorer plant on fern valley rd.'s parking lot used to be filled with thousands of Ford explorers, but in recent years, the lot is either completely empty or maybe has about 20 explorers max. I wouldn't be surprised if the plants went under soon with the US under Obama becoming energy minded and cars like explorers are looked down upon and don't sell compared to the US of the 90s. IIRC, the plants are to expensive for a retrofit to sell compact gas savers so the plants will close or just slowly produce Explorers and the other plant slowly produce F-series trucks slowly which doesn't require the Louisville owning work force they used to have years ago. For what its worth - the GM plants in Ohio look the same way and they make sedans for Chevy... Tough and sad times all over.
  16. Mmmmm, Pollo Campero is yummy. First restaurant they put in the US is located only a a 1/4 mile from my house.
  17. I wish I could, but I've have to work. Earliest I could go on Friday is after work at 4 or so. So then I'd have to deal with a 2+ hour drive to KD from DC in rush hour - knowing my luck I'd get my pass processed, get in the park, only to find that the line has been close for the day or something because its getting late.
  18. Yeah I'm anticipating it being like that all summer, though. Volcano's line was 2-3+ hours for its first season during all my visits.
  19. I'd wait a weekend or two more than likely... Opening weekends can be such a crap shoot. It would suck to make the plans and have the ride delayed for some reason and not be open when you're there. I've been to a couple opening day/weekends for rides in this area, and each time I essentially went to the park just to get on the new ride - then leave. Volcano I waited all day to ride, Hypersonic was the same since it was closed for much of its first day, and SROS on my first trip to the park was closed almost all day before finally opening... So basically, I would wait a while just in case.
  20. Thats pretty neat that its going to charity. No way I'd bid, but still kind of neat. I'll be fine with showing up Saturday, getting my pass processed, and waiting 3-4 hours for a ride. On the topic of passes - anyone order one online this off season? I bought mine back in November and have yet to get billed for it. I got the PDF's of the tickets and the receipt but nothing yet actually charging me for them. Do they normally wait until closer to the season to bill people?
  21. This is a really neat PTR! Its nice to get a look at the park from a different perspective (the interests of a child rather than coaster/park enthusiast type of deal). Reminds me of when me and my family first made our trips to the parks when me and my sister were young; certainly not the same kind of magic in my visits now as there was then.
  22. There's no flexibility when it comes to working at amusement parks at the lowest levels (ride operations, food service, games, etc.). You can expect to sign away your summer more or less, so hopefully you'll be working with fun and friendly people you can make friends with, because you'll be there a whole lot. edit: just realized you're a minor so it won't be as bad... I worked rides when I was 19 at a different park and it was grueling, doubles every day of the week with only a day or two off... But I look back at it fondly now for whatever that's worth...
  23. "Ma'am, if you can find the line we haven't constructed yet, or walk up the stairs we haven't built yet or be checked and dispatched by the operators we haven't hired yet then by all means, knock yourself out" You would be surprised at how unobservant/dense most guests can be...
