  1. Gwazi has one of the worst operating procedures I've ever seen, with the checking the seatbelts THEN locking and checking the lap bars... So ridiculously slow.
  2. Knotts is going to be the place to be once they get all the rides from the seasonal parks. Oh please... That is absurd. That person doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.
  3. In my experiences the B&M megas are only really good and forceful in the back seat. In the front there's no airtime to speak of on any I've ridden, but in the back there's plenty.
  4. I think the issue for Roar at SFDK is the fact that its a near clone of Roar on the east coast, clones automatically seem to get less attention right off the bat... I felt Fahrenheit at HP was better than the reviews gave it credit for. In the back seat I got a couple great moments of airtime, and it gave a short but very fun and intense ride. The only real problem I had with it was the capacity...
  5. ^ Thats interesting, it was so long ago and I was so young I can't remember what cars were on display other then the 51 car from the movie (as opposed to the 42 car that Kyle Petty actually drove at the time). I wouldn't be surprised if they were display/theme items back when the ride first opened, though; I think I vaguely remember a Jeff Gordon car because my family hated Jeff Gordon back then . It's kind of sad to have somewhat historical stuff like that back there rusting when collectors/fans would probably love to get their hands on them...
  6. No idea how many years ago I first came here; I lurked on here for years checking out the TR's and forums for a while. Probably first came about this place from thrillride.com (the old version in the 90's and early 00's when every time the wild rumors and news and notes was updated was like christmas to me... ).
  7. They still have the old Days of Thunder Mellow Yellow car on property? Thats pretty cool. I'd love to buy it and fix it up. Awesome pictures, I can't wait to see this thing all finished!
  8. I've never seen the ones on Phantoms Revenge, but I think belts similar to those at use Kings Dominion would be fine. Much smoother operating than the belts they currently have...
  9. Wild One can not be operated without stacking, the fastest the ride can possibly be dispatched still involves the second train coming to a complete stop on the brake run before returning to the station. Thats just how that ride works. Nit picky, yes, but I hate it how stacking is used as some kind of criteria for enthusiast when many times they don't actually know how the ride operates... I wish they would put retractable seat belts on that ride as that would speed up dispatches in a huge way. No more reaching around guests who forgot to put on the seat belt and no more needing to tie up the belts around the lap bars. SFGADV two summers ago was probably my worst day at a park, we arrived just after opening on a weekday in August after driving up all morning from DC through the toll roads. The park was very quiet and empty; most rides were already slated to be closed for the day according to the sign out front. I got a couple back seat rides on Nitro, a ride on Skull Mountain, lunch. Then just after noon the park closed for the day forcing everyone to leave. Most guests were mad and complaining, which led to the costumer service and employees working the exit gates to get pretty pissy and rude with people. They were giving out tickets to come back another day, but that didn't do me any good since I was using my SFA pass to get in that day anyways and I would not be able to come back on another day that season since I was going back to school hours away the next day. Basically it was upsetting to drive so far, pay so many tolls and use so much gas, not to mention paying the $10 or however much to park at the park to be sent away so early and with no warning because the park had low attendance.
  10. It really is a crime that giga for Heide Park never came to be. Based on that image it looks like it could have been an amazing ride, combination of all the best elements of the Intamin hypers/giga. The first drop and smooth high speed over-banks of MF, the airtime hills of the SROS clones... Sigh.
  11. Built over 5 years? For all they now they'll build the ride and by the time the whole complex is operational a taller ride will already be open. Just wait, it will be like when MF was first announced, then a short while later SD2000... Not holding my breath on this one in any event.
  12. I think a large consideration in comparing B&M to the other coaster companies is just how long B&M had been heads and shoulders above other steel manufacturers since the mid-90's. I feel like other companies need to push the envelope and develop new trains, designs, and elements more simply because if a park wants to build a steel coaster chances are they'll want to choose the company that promises to build a smooth, high capacity, and low-maintenance ride; which B&M promises. The other companies need to offer something different and exciting to the equation, or be a great deal more affordable, to compete with the high quality stuff B&M has been producing for the past 15+ or so years. That's at least the way I've always seen it. Concerning this ride, I imagine the loop will be an inward facing loop? I mean the train on the inside of the loop like the existing pretzel loops.
  13. The suggestions on here by some suggesting that Orochi should have been bought by a US park made me wonder if Cedar Point would be upset about that. Since Raptor came first, did Cedar Point know that later a copy would be built overseas? Would a park really care or have a say in the matter as far as clones being built later? If Orochi was brought over here, particularly in the east/mid-west, would Cedar Point be bothered by that?
  14. You never know. SFA has had SFAW's Ultra Twister in storage on the grounds for 4-5 years now, and it was just put on sale. La Ronde's "new" SLC has been in storage at another park (Great Escape if I remember correctly) for just as long. Basically until a formal announcement is made or physical construction I would not say anything is for certain at this point. I would normally agree (and do agree actually) but remember with the case of Astroworld, Six Flags was selling off the land and the rides had to be moved "somewhere* to be stored because it wasn't possible to store them in Houston. In the case of Chang, Six Flags owns and/or operates Kentucky Kingdom so why couldn't they have taken the ride down and stored it there? It cost money to disassemble and move a ride (quite a bit of money, actually) and I can't see them moving the parts unless they absolutely *had* to by lack of no other option. That being said, they totally could be just storing at at SFGam for it's eventual move to Six Flags Mexico. Who really knows? --Robb "Well, I guess someone at Six Flags does!" Alvey That's a good point I hadn't considered. While I think based on the rumors and track/supports showing up, SFGAm is likely where it will be re-built. I'm still short of saying its a guarantee just in case some random tomfoolery is a-foot...
  15. While the OTSR still make me nervous (especially as years go by and the ride inevitably becomes less smooth) I'm definitely willing to give the ride a chance.
  16. Either a couple parks in Orlando in February, or KD for Intimidator on its opening day.

  18. Given Six Flags use of QBot/Flash Pass systems I doubt they would strongly be considering adding something like that.
  19. Personally I would avoid chinatown/gallery place as a tourist unless you were going to Verizon Center for an event. The stores and restaurants there are all mostly pretty generic and can be found in other places, and as was mentioned its kind of out of the way and crowded. I think you're time is best spent elsewhere personally, especially in a big city like DC where there's a lot to see. If you want to see some night life, look up Adams Morgan and Georgetown and some of the clubs and bars down there. That would be an awesome way to spend one evening in town. Sometimes I take it for granted that I live and work around here and get to see this stuff regularly, but when I talk to people about visiting here I remember just how cool that is.
  20. I can't help but think fire and on-board audio will be involved some how.... Am I the only one who really wishes "special effects" would not be a term applied to coasters like this?
  21. Everything looks absolutely awesome! I'm really glad they only went with a refresh rather then total overhaul. The horizons tributes are a nice touch, and I MUST have that space mountain shirt. Too awesome!
  22. Both sides are the same! Only mirror images! Gahhhhhhh!!! Totally agree on the music. I looove Space Mountain's music, especially the star tunnel music.
  23. My most nerdy moments are related to school mostly... - In middle school as part of a basically optional assignment I spent the entire year making a massive wooden roller coaster model and wrote a 20 page book describing the history and different types of roller coasters to accompany it. - In high school I wrote my IB diploma history paper about Cedar Point and the effect their ride additions have had on the amusement industry over the years. It was about 25 pages if I remember correctly. - In college I created an interactive guide to Cedar Point for a final project for a web design class. Beyond that my room has always been decked out in roller coaster posters/banners.
  24. Jokers Jinx's launch can't be tampered with to be sped up or slowed down so if it were actually running slower than normal IO would suspect weather conditions to be the major culprit.
