Just to nit pick, local news affiliates in this case channel 11 are not tied to the Fox News cable channel... Glad to hear no one was seriously harmed or dead. -

No wooden selection? They have 5 wooden coasters, and while none are exactly top 10 woodies, that is still pretty good. I may be biased because I think Grizzly is fantastic, but saying they have no wooden selection is far from the truth. Virginia is a no-mans land geographically nowadays thanks to the sprawl and constantly growing population of liberal Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia thinks of themselves as being separate and better then Southern "Redneck" VA. Maybe we should split VA so we'll have West, North, and Southern Virginia? -
I can't speak for this ride specifically but I know most popular rides explain through signage that you CANNOT leave and return to the line where you were, it is cutting in line. Which makes sense to me. It seems like you are asking for trouble when you start saying people can come and go as they please as long as someone from their group is waiting to hold their spot in line.

Who cares about what rides presently exist in Colorado? That has so little to do with the conversation and people's gripes with the ride its flabbergasting. So in your opinion the ride should be good, in other people's opinion the ride should be less awesome then it could have been. w/e. You're right. I'm all for everyone having an opinion, but how one presents an opinion really affects the statement, for better or worse. You described the ride as 'absolutely terrible'. What I would have said is something like this: "I think it's great that Kings Dominion is investing all of this money into an Intamin giga coaster. However, the layout doesn't really impress me yet, but I'll see how it turns out - after I actually ride it." By adusting the statement, the hostility is toned down and there will be less arguing about a coaster that is not built yet. But if you have good things to say then feel free to use statements like... "WOW! THIS IS GOING TO BE LIKE THE BEST RIDE EVAR. I mean wow the first drop is like the best drop evar. I can't wait for next spring!" -

The only real similarity is the drop - turn - hill under lift combo to start the ride. I think people are going to be disappointed if they're expecting a mega-lite esque ride from this. They have a lot more in common than that. They both have pretty much the same elements and layout. They will not be EXACTLY the same; one is almost three times as tall as the other how could they be? Both the layouts are essentially: Drop into low turn to the right, Airtime hill under the lift, airtime hill, low curve to the left, zig zag airtime hills, low turn to the right, airtime hills, low turn to the left, breaks. That's the thing though, the mega-lites have genuine airtime hills, while a lot of the airtime moments on this ride are through turn transitions. Totally agree with you. -

Maybe people would rather have a kiddy coaster with lap bars.... Will the kiddy coaster have airtime and not karate chop my neck? If so I just might take you up on that. -
What's your favorite John Allen coaster?

Swamp Fox or Screamin' Eagle @ SFStl I found Swamp Fox to be really entertaining. Smooth enough with a couple moments of good airtime and a great location by the beach. All around a lot of fun. Screamin' Eagle was a real surprise to me. I wasn't expecting much from it but found the setting really make it a great ride. It starts out towering over the surroundings then seem to just disappear into the woods where the trains fly through the dense trees with a good amount of speed. Although it was a bit rough and didn't have a lot of air I thought it was a lot of fun. -

The same guys who had to remove a certain infamous element from Maverick just before opening? I guess even the "pros" make mistakes sometimes. I knew that was going to be mentioned, it was only a matter of time lol, but guess what, they corrected their error. Its not like they said screw it, we messed up, o'well, they recognized the problem and fixed it. So i'm sure if they make a mistake they will fix it. Anyways i'm still looking forward to this coaster and can't wait to ride it. Also: ^ I'm not a Nascar fan, just a sports fan in general, and even I respect him as a great driver. Exactly. Look at how quickly Intamin corrected the problem and replaced the track. Not to mention, I'm sure that particular situation was embarrassment enough to ensure that it doesn't happen again. If OTSRs are going to ruin the ride experience for you, then don't ride it. Simple as that. I'm 6'3, and I personally have no issue with Intamin's OTSRs. Do I prefer them? No. Do I realize that they were obviously chosen for a reason? Yes. I'm really looking forward to this coaster. I just visited Kings Dominion for the first time towards the end of July, and this is definitely a reason to go back. No one I have seen is saying the OTSR's are going to ruin the ride for them or keep them from riding it. People understandably just don't see why exactly they are needed and feel that lap bars would allow the ride to be even better more then likely. These forums would be rather dull if all anyone wanted to do was complement every ride or decision made by a park for fear of being a "complainer". 200+ pages of "I'm so excited for the drop! This ride is going to be the best!" is not exactly the most entertaining material in the world. I have no qualms with saying what disheartens me about this ride thus far or how I think it could be better. It won't keep me from riding the ride and giving it a fair shake when it opens, but I have an opinion on how it looks so far. OK, so after I ride it opening day next season I will be allowed to say "it would have been a lot better with lap bars only, too bad"? It's not so much that you're not allowed to have an opinion, but more so the fact that you're saying the same exact thing over and over and over again. You think it would be better with lapbars. Got it. Done. And plenty of people think the OTSR's don't matter and this looks like the best thing since sliced bread. Got it. Done. May as well close the thread until the ride is open now that we have these revelations out of the way. I'm not even complaining any more, I'm just trying to understand where the line is with some people here because anyone saying anything critical is being complained about and is a whiner. If we can only say nice things until opening day then I guess there isn't much to talk about here. -

Then we should just equip all coasters with a 6 point harness restraint system since its "just restraints" and doesn't effect the ride. Restraints and how constraining/comfortable they are is very important to a ride. Just ask someone who rode a Premier launch coaster before the lap bars... -

^^ At least that time I wasn't criticizing them I guess. I like the theme for what that's worth, and the stock car train body should look sharp. -

Is this the longest Intamin train to have that syle of OTSR? I can't think of any others that are more then a few cars. -

MF did not. And having been on a few rides with the intamin OTSR and SROS @ SFA with the leg guards I'd much rather have leg guards, not even close. -

Agreed! I can understand tbars are not accomadating to a lot of people but the intamin "over the shoulder lapbars" are going to suck on a ride like this, especially a few years after the ride opens when it starts to rattle. Totally agree with you there. -

The wording on the Intimidator site, the quote from Kinzel at the press conference and Pilgrims Plunge. The PP animations had the same restraints that you see on the Intimidator videos and it wound up having the new overhead lapbars. The guy that does the animations apparently hasn't figured out a way to reproduce the new restraint system. I really hope that is the case. Time will tell. -

I don't want to beat a dead horse too much, but why does Maverick's trains have the description - Fiberglass and steel coaches with over-the-shoulder restraints and interlocking seat belts - when this ride is specifically described as not featuring over the should restraints? It just seems completely bizarre to me. Either way, w/e, we'll see I suppose. Debunked how so? All we have is conflicting pictures and hearsay thus far. -

Meh, I'd take Apollo's Chariot or even SROS at SFA over a neck chopping good time with two airtime hills. Of course I should probably wait and actually ride it first before going off the deep end too much here. -
