Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
LiftThrill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think I'll leave Vortex open as a "if it's a short wait and we feel like doing it, then do it" but not a must-ride. It wasn't high on my priority list to begin with. I don't plan on riding Invertigo mostly because I'm not a big Boomerang fan to begin with and KI has so many better things to do with our time than wait in line for that. -

^ I think on the enthusiast spectrum that makes total sense, but from the GP point of view, rides going down is unsafe and they probably like waiting in line just as much as enthusiasts do (aka not). -

Yeah I think I can take a beating. The lift hills on SFOT's mine train, The Boss at SFStL, even Boomerangs to some extent (except the restraints, I hate the standard Vekoma OTSRs, at least while going up backwards), stuff like that really doesn't bother me at all. The only coaster I've been on that I really don't like is Titan. It wasn't until the second or third time that I realized how much wasted track that ride has. I came off with a headache all three times. Plus, there's a good chance I'll get to ride one of the best Arrow loopers on this trip because Dollywood is on the itinerary and I've heard great things about Tennessee Tornado. -

Totally disagree...Somewhat. Skip Firehawk and Vortex. They suck. But Invertigo is a fun ride...If it's running. But everything else he said, go with. I'm inclined to skip Vortex because of its reputation but I also haven't been on any custom Arrows or Vekomas before. Is it any worse than Corkscrew at CP? I was thinking about skipping that one as well but I do want to get in at least one Arrow looper just to say I've done it. -

Nah they're just going to take all the wood from it and build the world's tallest, fastest, and longest.... wooden plank! -

If CP got a brand new woodie I would imagine it would be something along the lines of a GCI or Gravity Group. They already have a small classic woodie in Blue Streak, and I imagine that Mean Streak will get RMC'd in the next ten years (and honestly, even if it doesn't, CP is arguably the best coaster park in the country), but RMC Mean Streak is where I feel Cedar Fair would probably start as it's very similar to the old Texas Giant so it would be in the realm of "playing it safe." However I don't think RMC Mean Streak is happening for 2017, since they just got Valravn. Now, it's still possible as according to Wikipedia and rcdb, NTaG was only $10mil and Cedar Fair has been adding much more expensive stuff with B&Ms in their parks. Do I think RMC Mean Streak is a possibility? Yes. It's likely. Do I think that it will happen in 2017? Probably not. Would I be surprised if it happened in 2017? Probably not. Plus CP already has a ton of awesome coasters so RMC Mean Streak would just be another top ride at the park. -

Yeah, Texas is pretty similar with forecasts. Changes every day lol -

I've also heard Raven runs much better after it's warmed up, so we might wait to hit it until after we do the waterpark. also the new legend seriously hauls, that youtube doubler thing really shows how much speed it keeps that it didn't before, it just keeps getting farther and farther ahead of the old one -

Awesome to hear they're getting it open somewhat consistently. Hopefully they don't get another random flood lol -

^^ weird, it looks like you're right. for some reason I was sure there were 16 rows on IRat. Also, I'm leaving on my 10-day coaster trip tomorrow and I'll be at Cedar Point on Wednesday and Thursday the 15th and 16th with early entry both days. We have FL+ in the budget for Thursday but not Wednesday. Any tips for hitting the park efficiently and having an awesome time at the park? One day of FL+ should satisfy the reride thirst but generally what I hear is to hit Maverick during early entry and then go to MF (with an extra lap or two on Maverick if you want), and I've also seen that it's better to ride Valravn on FL+ day to avoid waiting in line for it. I don't know how CP gets on weekdays but the forecast for these two days is a little sketchy (when is it not?) so I do want to make sure we have as much fun as possible. -

We're leaving on our epic midwest coaster trip tomorrow and will be at Kings Island on Tuesday June 14th. We didn't have the money in the budget for Fast Lane, but we are trying to have a pretty relaxed day at the park. From what I've heard it's big and will take a lot of walking, so what's the best way to optimize the day? We're driving 3-ish to the park in the morning and another suicide drive to Sandusky after we leave, so we will need to be a decent amount rested (and probably will need caffeine boosts as well). Beast, front row at night is in the plans. What's a good plan of attack to optimize the park while maintaining a decent amount of energy? (basically we're not going to do too much reriding, probably good amounts of sitting down and chilling, lots of picture taking, etc). -

Yeah it's awesome how fast they've been seeming to recover from flooding, technical issues, etc, and even more awesome how they're trying to get it open for people to ride when they can. The thing is, if LR has a decent chance of being open to the public for any period of time on Saturday June 18th. Weather is always a major factor and I have no idea how accurate the current rainy forecast for that day will be by then, but if the chance of it being closed all day that day is high enough, we'll probably opt for a park that's less out of the way for our epic midwest road trip. That being said if there's a good chance we'll be able to ride LR while we're there then Dollywood is still in the plans. -

We're leaving on our epic midwest coaster trip tomorrow and will be at Holiday World on Monday, June 13th. Any tips for approaching the park? I've heard its best to go the the waterpark first, but the dry park is open one hour before. So we're thinking we hit coasters (how will the lines be?) until 11am and then go to the waterpark for Wildebeest and Mammoth (and might reride these two if the lines aren't terrible). After that we'll probably go back and ride the coasters some more. We plan on taking advantage of the free drinks. Stuff like where to sit on the rides is also appreciated -

I've only been on the Gerstlauer train RMCs, but they each have 8 cars with a capacity of 32, and NTaG can run 3 trains. However I think if RMC Mean Streak were to happen it would probably run with RMC trains. They probably could add more cars to the train if CP wanted them to. -
We leave on our epic midwest coaster journey tomorrow, and are looking at ways to optimize SDC on a Saturday (specifically June 11th). We've budgeted for the limited use Trailblazer Pass (that's 8 skips, right?). I'm most excited for the cinnamon bread, the cave, and the coasters. What's the best way to go about getting this all done while still taking in as much of the charm of the park as we can? Any other suggestions for cool stuff the park has to offer are totally accepted.

So is LR open on a regular basis yet or is it still in the awkward transition phase between open and not open? It seems that they've gotten it running with two trains when it does run, but is it still a hit or miss? -
Just sayin but this thread is going to be like 70%+ coasterbill and probably a decent amount of Robb too

Definitely a contender for the #1 wooden coaster, and for aesthetics it probably already is #1. -
I almost considered riding Ninja at SFStL for the credit since it had no line and we had a half hour left. That's pretty much it. I ultimately decided that even if it was a clone, Mr Freeze: Reverse Blast was still a new credit and I'd rather not leave SFStL with bleeding ears. We also opted for the mine train over Ninja as well. I've been on the kiddie coaster at my home park, but I was with my friend and his little sister was scared to ride any of the big coasters (she did get on Road Runner and Pandemonium). Plus, who doesn't have the credit for the kiddie coaster at their home park?

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
LiftThrill replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I mean SFStL isn't that bad, I wish I could have spent more time there, and all of the woodies and Mr Freeze made my top ten. Now, is SFStL's coaster lineup pretty much budget Holiday World with some random other stuff thrown in? Of course. Is budget Holiday World with random other stuff thrown in a bad thing? Not necessarily. -
The most rare coaster credits
LiftThrill replied to Stitch's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Switchback at ZDT's is my rarest credit according to coastercount, in the 31-42 riders category. For only having ridden 27 coasters that doesn't seem too bad.
