  1. ^That actually probably has a better fit for the whole 'aggressive' thing...one thing I'd consider aggressive as much as many see it as a kid's attraction are those wavy slides of death you find at the fair...About 1.5 weeks later, my butt is still hurting from the final thump from catching air...and that night when we rode it (like 10 times, lol) it beat the stuffing out of us until the cool night air produced moisture on the slide thus making it less slick (which my butt/tailbone was glad for). With Robb's classification, I'd probably fit Hurricane at SCBB (or now NM) as an aggressive and intense ride. It was quite forceful, and had potential to beat you up pretty good...in fact my final farewell ride on Hurricane consisted of just 1 ride...which was enough for me.
  2. Firefox...I steer clear of Internet Exploder And I don't really use Chrome or Safari (Unless I'm on my iPhone, which your only choice is Safari).
  3. Trying to see how I'd differentiate "Intense" vs "Agressive." I see "Agressive" as a ride that flat out does not let up whether if it's that out of control feeling, or 1 forceful element after another. I see "Intense" as a ride that has its hot spots...with this said, I would say that you can have an intense ride that isn't too aggressive, or you can have both. CGA's Flight Deck is one I'd consider an aggressive ride as each element delivers a good amount of force, one after another. The only 'breather' moment you have is the station flyby before whipping through the corkscrew and the lake helix finale. When we had Invertigo at CGA, I considered it to be intense but not really aggressive...I often greyed out in the loop and after 3 back-to-back rides I felt queasy.
  4. When riding Grizzly at CGA (so far, the only woodie that's easily accessible to me until Gold Striker opens ) I notice that I can feel the thumps and seams between the steel track joints when I'm in the 'wheel seet.' It's a little more jarring than if I were in the front seat of the car. As Robb mentioned about the Vekoma/Arrow coasters, I find Demon (probably the only Arrow looper I've done) ride-able in the second to last row, not in a wheel seat...not to mention there is far more leg room in the front row of each car. What I'm curious and will find out for myself (will have all season to try out different rows with Gold Striker), where is the best spot to sit on a GCI since I believe every row's a wheel seat due to the articulated design of the train? I know that as rough as Roar was at SFDK, I definitely favor sitting in the back as there were several moments that provided nice pops of air including coming off the first drop and that hill after the first turnaround.
  5. Yay, here's some more coaster porn brought to you by GCI, as of Saturday 12/1/12. Photos are on their Facebook page as well. Concrete coming real soon! Twisty!!!
  6. With the rain and all I really doubt anything happened since we were out there last weekend and since CGA's posts on FB (which were shown here).
  7. One of my last Etch-a-Sketch drawings...sadly, until I pick up a new one, this is the end of Etch-a-Sketch for the time being...the cat knocked it over, met the typical 'iPad fatality' as the screen shattered. Rest in pieces, Etch... Update...this is really weird...shortly after writing this post, I headed up into the attic to get some Xmas stuff down and what do I find? Another etch-a-sketch! Must have been one from my childhood since the lines don't show up as much unless I repeatedly go back and forth. So with this said, I'm back with etch-a-sketching!
  8. This was the most random thing I've encountered in the park a few months ago. We did decide to report it to the park employees and not much later the park pages the owner of the dog to come pick up their dog at the "Town Hall" (CGA's guest services area). Kind of irresponsible of the owners if you ask me...one should be with that dog while the others ride, not just chain the dog somewhere and everyone go off on a ride. A couple other things... When heading towards one of the CGA rides, this little kid is gnawing on his hand, typical kid thing to do. They're exiting the ride as we're getting in line when suddenly the kid smacks me with his slobbery hand as we pass...eew Catching a blue belly lizard running around over by CGA's Demon, out on the pathway And lastly, I could swear I saw a cat walking around under Grizzly's station...yea, you don't normally see cats at theme parks...
  9. Bomb's Away, Raging Waters, San Jose...probably the freakiest moments I've ever had on a water slide! While I remained silent throughout the entire slide, the initial drop left my stomach still up on the platform up top! Bomb's Away is Pro Slide's take on the Aqua Loop with the whole drop capsule thing (which reminds me of stepping into a coffin). You are leaning on this almost vertical wall, what feels like leaning against the walls in a shower stall as you cross your legs. Inside you can hear the ride op count down before the floor drops...and next thing you know you are falling...doesn't feel like you're sliding down until you hit the curve. Walking up to the top platform is even moreso nerve-wracking. All you hear is "Kerchunk! *scream* every 15 seconds.
  10. Nearly 10 years later I decided to give another sky coaster a shot, being CGA's. Initially I did not want to fork over the $17 but we all convinced ourselves to do so. TPR member Blue Fire Guy had never been on one and wanted to check it out so we forked over our cash, got suited up and away we went! Now I said that I've been on one before but being CGA's is much taller than the one at SFDK, it freaked me out more...especially being the lucky one to pull the cord. Again the initial dive head first is what gets you! Since CGA's Star Tower was down, this doubled as our Gold Striker construction viewing Offride footage shot by my cousin (who nearly misses our flight after the initial drop). You can hear my terrified scream The initial pull...
  11. Seeing it in person is even more so surreal...Especially walking from the back up toward Celebration Plaza, or heading from the Bumper Car area towards the same area and seeing the Midway Turn there in all of it's glory. Granted it was night time when I last saw it, it was still an amazing site to see! Also seeing the lift structure in person rising is very surreal! I've actually enjoyed following the construction and getting photos of its progress regularly. When I see that photo posted above I have to stop and do a double take, just to make sure I'm not looking at the rendering. Would not mind hopping on the Star Tower just to see a birds eye view of the site in person. I know they're still working on the lift (duh) but right now it looks very fragile! Probably due to the fact that it's quite naked without any of the track. If the weather is in our and the park's favor in the coming month, I can see the structure itself being completed by the new year, then there's the whole installing mechanical components and all, followed by tests. I'd like to call this map the "JMA Rendition of CGA" or "Kinzel's Dream." In the end, with JMA, I could see the park continue a few more seasons in its same state...no new rides, fading rides, etc.
  12. Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game
  13. Alright, I think it's time to share something with you all! With Global Winter Wonderland being inside the park and needing some form of map system, they pretty much 'borrowed' CGA's map and "Geauga Lake'd" the park as I like to say. I find it a bit amusing to see this modified CGA map as their Photoshopping of it came out pretty good as far as cleaning up the closed rides. Please do bear with me though (or more like my scanner). While the map physically fits in the scanner, there's about a 1/4" margin that it cuts off on one side. Here's the outside pages, looks pretty legit! The inside of the map, with recycled CGA information. And the grand finale, the "Geauga Lake'd" CGA!
  14. Santa Cruz Boardwalk just posted a neat little time lapse video today of Hurricane getting dismantled.
  15. I'm glad I visited the games forum (I don't pop too much in this area, not as much as I should) and found this thread. First off, I totally remember the Roller Coaster Factory games, being one of my first coaster-related games I have ever played. I'm excited to see where this goes. You guys were discussing a UI, I myself favor the Windows UI over a 'game UI' as I use No Limits quite often. Back in the day I tried Scream Machines (a 'competing' simulator back when NL came out) and just could not adjust to its UI. I decided to share the Facebook page on my Facebook as there's several TPR members/coaster fanatics I'm friends with, may as well spread the word!
  16. I was going to go this Sunday but the storms aren't looking to promising (Heavy rain up in Vallejo, 80% chance this Sunday). Hoping to get my S:UF credit soon.
  17. Honestly, I'm going to say CGA's Grizzly has the most complex setup I've seen. You have your standard seatbelt to go across you, then a 'shared lapbar' (you know how Morgan trains are), then you have a final seatbelt to 'lock' the lapbar...was new for 2012 and it sucks...capacity/efficiency has taken a nose dive regardless how fast the crews try to get everyone loaded...the GP completely disregard it or have difficulty doing such since the belt going from the lapbar to the seat divider just barely makes it.
  18. Yay, finally laying down some steel rails! This is looking more and more complete every time I see it! I won't expect much more progress this week however as we are finally getting a healthy treat of storms coming (which may also deny me getting my S:UF SFDK credit this weekend). I'm loving the views from the Star Tower, have not gotten those views in a while! Now I really cannot wait for March to get here, assuming we will see an opening day debut or close to it. Speaking of, don't they have to conduct a series of noise tests as well? If so, maybe that's why there's so much of a push...I believe Prowler began vertical construction and opened in May...Gold Striker went vertical in July so we will see.
  19. Something I noticed this past weekend at the Global Winter Wonderland...our group was getting ready to hop in the Zamperla mini tea cups when the ride op says that we need a kid. After leaving, we noticed the ride with 2 adults seated in one of the tubs...so I guess as long as you have a kid but don't sit with them it's ok? If it were a regular park running it and not a carnie company, the rules would have been a lot clearer. And there was no signage saying about max height..in fact all rides had the same sign reprinted...A funhouse sign read "All single riders will be paired with another rider" and "you must secure lapbar" when it was a walk-thru
  20. How about one that's a blessing and a curse...I revisited those 'potato sack slides' just last night, last time I rode one was when I was probably 11...so imagine 100 lbs later or so revisiting one of these...Going down I felt the airtime gradually increasing from each hump until the final hump that became quite painful after landing the wrong way So yea, you get amazing airtime yet you smash your poor tailbone into oblivion simultaneously. Similar experience with a Gravitron/Star Ship, haven't ridden one since I was like 10 or 11. Again a ride equally amazing and messed up at the same time. Forces were intense yet it felt like my face was being ripped off! In the end, carnival rides seem to be a good candidate for this thread.
  21. And because there is never enough footage of the Super Yellow Slide o' Death, here's one shot by me! And an update...I am still quite sore from it...gonna be that way for a few days...still worth every bit of it, saying 'screw it...yolo!' and continue marathon-ing the slide! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fec5zwYAE0E And it just so happened en route to Pleasanton a wild yellow super slide of death appears along the freeway, it is situated about 10 minutes from me at a Christmas Tree lot. Anyone want to head to Hayward for some slide of death action?
  22. Not really a breakdown but something I found out riding those carnival Dizzy Dragons rides. Because of the way it's designed, if spun too hard, it will trigger a sensor that causes the ride to e-stop. We just did one for the first time (it was honestly a bit scary as you have this small base sitting on muddy/wet grass) and as we got the thing spinning really good you can feel the entire thing begin to shake followed by the ride stopping. The carnie kindly told us about spinning too hard and what the ride is designed to do in an event like that and we have to be a little bit more gentle with it.
