I've been on 4 wooden coasters ever, and the worst of those was Gwazi by absolutely miles (the other 3 were the 2 Joris en de Draak coasters at Efteling and Wodan at Europa Park).

new Vekoma product: "Single Car Launch Coaster"

That looks pretty nifty...hopefully they'll manage a way to make it high enough capacity. -
Vekoma Roller Coasters
Heth replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's probably as a result of predominantly going on the Disney park Vekoma coasters (Expedition Everest, Rock n' Rollercoaster etc.) which means I've not been on many rough Vekoma rides. My favourite is Space Mountain Mission 2 (I'm in a minority who love this ride, even though it's rough!), but the smoothest track is probably Rock n' Rollercoaster. Worst I've been on is probably Temple of the Nighthawk at Phantasialand. -
Going to parks alone?
Heth replied to alilstronger's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh yeah, that's pretty depressing. Luckily it hasn't happened to me many times. I managed to achieve a fantastic 'ride of shame' when in Efteling in January. Managed to be on Vogel Rok with no-one else. It was just me, on the left-hand side of the front row, and not one solitary human being in the train with me. The most tragic/hilarious part was returning to the station at the end and a queue had finally developed...watching me returning from my coaster-ride-for-one. -
Ride that Makes You (a bit) Sick
Heth replied to coasternate's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I find that my feeling sick on a ride is rarely to do with the coaster itself and more to do with the circumstances surrounding it. Though I have been sick from a coaster, I have felt very nauseous. The worst one ever was Temple of the Nighthawk at Phantasialand. It's an indoor coaster with poor (read: no) air-conditioning, and I rode it during a hot summer day. The lack of airflow, the pitch black and the gentle motion of the long ride made me very bad. Thing is though, I had ridden it earlier that day and had no ill effect. Black Mamba at Phantasialand has also made me feel ill, but that was a ride at the end of a long, hot day having been up since 5am (I had started said day in the UK, flew to Germany, checked into the hotel AND had a day at the park since then). I discovered that what made me feel ill was not so much the rollercoaster but the heat and low sun angle in the sky (rushing past buildings made the light 'flash' a lot in my eyes, giving a minor epileptic effect). Subsequently ridden this with no problems at other times of the day. I have felt a bit ill from spinning flat rides, and as a rule I don't go on them at all. Manta at SeaWorld Orland made me feel quite rough due to the pretzel loop combined with the high-heat. -
Worst Lift Hill View
Heth replied to Coaster Curt's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This made me LOL! Is it weird that I like this lift view? Nope. It may be ominous, but is quite photogenic haha. A car park or maintenance area, however, is less so, so lifts with that view are probably the worst. -

Yeah, I agree with some others here that the show-building looks dreadful! It makes the castle look really small. -
"No Single Riders" policies.
Heth replied to frost man's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I go to a lot of theme parks alone. I have plenty of friends, but friends interested in visiting foreign theme parks...not so much. In theme parks I've never had any issues. It's a shame that this carnival visit didn't let you ride single rider, but there may be a reason for that policy. -

Your guilty pleasure ride
Heth replied to DanTheBooker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Space Mountain Mission 2 is still in my top 5 favourite rides. I adore it. It's rough, but I love the theming to it and when braced well enough it is a genuinely exciting and thrilling coaster. I just can't get enough of it...though saying that I don't feel 'guilty' about that. I DO however love crappy ghost train/haunted rides. I'll re-ride them again and again even if kind of lame. -
Disneyland Paris (DLP) Discussion Thread

To my understand it is open, and has been for a few months. How well it rides now I do not know I'm afraid. -
Solution for Line Jumpers
Heth replied to aCoasterStory's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When on holiday with my family we put into action 'the wall'. We make sure that, as a family, we successfully block the width of any given portion of the queue. Anyone wishing to get past us will have to very physically move one of us or ask nicely....for a prompt rejection. -
I haven't been on a Floorless, Sitdown, Wingdrier or Standing B&Ms...but of those other types I'd say Inverted are my favourites.

Worst I've been to may not be an accurate reflection on the park as a whole, but does reflect the worst DAY I've had at a park. Busch Gardens Tampa/Africa was not a park I enjoyed. It had been touted to me as being incredible, and whilst the rides were mostly good (I actually enjoyed Gwazi, surprisingly) I just disliked the overall atmosphere of it. It was a quiet and hot day, and I just found the theming surprisingly poor and the overall look and feel of the place kind of disappointing. Looking at the park now (I went many many many years ago) it looks notably better however.

Riding coasters after a heart attack??
Heth replied to snowwhite40's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd imagine that if your Doctor reckon's it's ok, then you should be fine. Other than that I'd imagine that common sense would be worth applying and not to ride when feeling less than perfect on a given day. -
The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
Heth replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
PLEASANT: Crush's Coaster - Walt Disney Studios Paris - I was concerned that I might feel ill on a spinning coaster (I don't do spinning well). Crush was my first spinning coaster ever and I was greatly surprised by how much fun it was and how very un-sickly it was. UNPLEASANT: Temple of the Nighthawk - Phantasialand - This coaster made me feel so ill. Super smooth, super long and in a pitch-black and hot metal tin of a building it just made me feel overwhelmingly sick. An awful experience, and not something I expected of such an innocent looking coaster. -
Kinda see where that's going. Gardaland Dive coaster is placed in a futuristic area with mostly white rides. So the most logical place for the White one is Gardaland. That however means that the dark orange track is most likely for the Efteling Dive coaster (What I find odd because there is no conformation that the ride has a green light). Anyway seems B&M is quite busy, I mean 4 projects is better then the past few years, right? The promotional material for the Gardaland one has used an orange and black colour scheme, so I'd have guessed it was the other way around.

Perhaps those might be for the un-named Dive Coasters attributed to Gardaland and Efteling?

Your first Arrow Dynamics coaster

I would struggle to recall correctly which was the absolute first, but I reckon it's probably Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom, WDW, Florida. -
Longest SBNO / Shortest Opened Coasters
Heth replied to Heth's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Having perused RCDB I did see quite a few rides which operated for a single season at a park before being moved elsewhere. Boomerang coasters in particular seem to move around a lot. I find the SBNO ones extra fascinating as they just sit there, very much visible but untouchable, and it must be weird for them to open after so long. One non-coaster example would be the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, whose facade existing for many many years before the accompanying ride was actually built. -
Longest SBNO / Shortest Opened Coasters
Heth replied to Heth's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
4 days is ridiculous anyway, but 1983?! That's a long time to be constructed and to never open. Is there a reason given? -
Apologies if this has been talked about before (I searched the forum with keywords but couldn't find anything), but it was something I was curious about. Seeing the long construction Standing-But-Not-Operational time and incredibly short opening time (a few days apparently) of RingRacer, I was interested to know if this is the longest time that a ride has been SBNO to still open later, and also is this the shortest a coaster has ever been open? http://rcdb.com/4161.htm I've heard of rides that have been SBNO for decades and never open too. In general I'm just interested to discuss rides that have never opened, barely opened, opened after a very long time etc.
