  1. I know for me I am 'won over' in terms of the quality, but would still have preferred it if they hadn't done Potter in both parks. If they were to do it, at least they did it as well as they did.
  2. Manchester is where I live for University, so I was going for my actual 'home', which is Bournemouth in the South of the UK.
  3. Closest park - Adventure Wonderland, Dorset, UK (a tiny local park) Next closest park - Paultons Park, Hampshire, UK (the nearest 'larger' theme park) Next next closest park - Thorpe Park, Surrey, UK (the nearest more thrilling/major theme park) Most visited park - Disneyland Paris
  4. I've been to a few alone: Europa Park Efteling (4 day dissertation study trip - 3 of the days alone) Disneyland Paris Walt Disney Studios Paris These were done on various theme park mini-tours, and I really enjoyed doing them alone. Company is good, as you cannot beat the thrill of introducing someone to a new ride or park, but doing them alone was much more efficient in terms of doing the rides I wanted
  5. Oh, I remember that. Mine was Space Mountain Mission 2 (DlP) and I was pretty intimidated. I also remember thinking the queue looked scary as you could hear the ride moving and some people screaming. But yeah, now I realise how crappy it is. I was quite scared of Space Mountain, as it was my 3rd ever inverting coaster. Now I love it though, one of my favourite rides. That's more 'in spite of' the layout than anything else (I adore the theming, story and effects enough to make it a favourite...I tolerate the coaster). The tension in the launch of Space Mountain Mission 2 and in Rock n Rollercoaster do still intimidate me though, even though there are faster/more intense launches out there. It shows off the impact of a good theme and build-up. Oddly, despite a dislike of heights I was surprisingly OK with my first coaster over 200ft (Silver Star at Europa Park), but this was ridden after I'd been on drop rides such as Mystery Castle and Tower of Terrror which got to me far more!
  6. Oops, not sure why that posted twice
  7. Nemesis at Alton Towers Pretty much the only group on the ride, but always great fun!
  8. Depends on the times I rode them. When I rode my first ever inverting coaster - Nemesis Inferno - THAT was easily the scariest ride I'd been on, or the most scared I'd been, but naturally it's not as scary anymore. Scariest recent ride was probably Mystery Castle at Phantasialand. The build up and noises of those towers really got to me. Love the ride.
  9. I have already done a dissertation study trip to Efteling in early January for 4 days, and went to Alton Towers in April. I have upcoming: Phantasialand Magic Kingdom Epcot Animal Kingdom Disney Hollywood Studios Universal Studios Orlando Islands of Adventure Sea World Thorpe Park (possibly)
  10. Wow, I'm incredibly impressed by the details being added to this expansion. I was going to say this was a Disney-like approach to detail, but to be honest this actually looks better. I'm getting very excited to see this when I go in August.
  11. For me personally I tend to do it more on visual inspection than anything else. I will generally count powered coasters and water-coasters like EP's Poseidon as roller-coasters, and would count rides such as Supersplash rides as rides with 'coaster-elements'. An interesting one I have found is that of Superman: The Escape/Escape from Krypton vs. First generation Intamin drop towers (see: Hollywood Tower at Movieland). The track shape is similar, but in my head I definitely count Superman as a coaster and Hollywood tower as a non-coaster. I think that's mostly due to the up-and-down nature of Superman. But then again I don't count half-pipes in my head despite the fact they go up and down. It's definitely a grey area.
  12. Hi everyone, I'm Heth (generally Hethetheth on other forums, but that became a bit of a mouthful for some people, including myself) and I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster at TPR. I'm really interested in theme park simulations, particularly RCT3, but over the last few years I've gotten more into visiting theme parks outside of my home country of the UK, and have as a result been spending a lot of time reading about foreign parks...which leads me here! I am a 20-something Architecture student in the UK, and even wrote my dissertation on the subject of architecture's relation to theme parks during the last semester. I hope to get to know people well and have fun discussing theme parks. Thanks, Heth.
  13. I've only been on two Tower of Terror rides: Orlando and Paris. I'm clearly in a minority here, but I actually preferred the Paris one. I prefer the art-deco style of the exterior, and like that the Paris ride is a bit 'punchier'. I always found that the 5th dimension room kind of spoilt the pace of Orlando's version, and with the Paris one I was genuinely more excited and scared as a result of the 'distilled' ride experience.
