Kolmården Discussion Thread
Hilltopper39 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This thing is going to be kind of like the wooden version of Expedition GeForce to the enthusiast community, highly rated by everyone who ever rides but but still somewhat elusive since it's at a somewhat isolated park that has no other major coasters. And it might best the best wooden coaster in the world there is that similarity as well. -

The Mean Streak stuff is just to distract you nerds, the real project is across the way when they do a RMC make over of the mine train...... -
Most Overrated coaster?
Hilltopper39 replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's me rolling around at your notion that one of the fastest and most forceful coasters on the planet "just rolls around until it hits the brakes!" Seriously, all of you enthusiast MF-bashers give me great stories to tell normal, GP people when I go to Cedar Point with them, because they think you all are certifiably nuts when it comes to MF! It's still a great ride, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's the #1 ride in the world, thus a bit overrated. Seriously after the first drop and turn around there's not much that's memorable about that ride. I still like it, and would take it over take it over 90% of other coasters in the world but that doesn't' mean it's not a tad bit overrated. Maverick > MF -

Most overrated? Millennium Force, one of the best drops in the world following by a layout that just kinda rolls around until it hits the brakes. -

That lighting package is insane, so cool. Would love to see more parks do something like that. -
I'm no park executive but I have a feeling that in the Orlando market they base the success of a new attraction and it's financial return on a lot more than a one time increase in attendance. I mean the Potter effect was somewhat unprecedented but it seems like when a new attraction opens the attendance increases that year usually doesn't exceed the average increase by a considerable amount, by some yes but a lot probably not. Now when Star Wars opens, this theory will probably be ripped up and set on fire with the rest of the Death Star Killer base or whatever it's called. Oh and Kong looks really cool, I don't even care if the ride is just a bunch of well disguised video screens I still wanna check it out to just see the environment. I went from really don't much care to really pretty interested in this project.

What's up with JC Superstar on the far left there? -
^Yeah, I'm actually pretty interested in hearing some reviews. Of all the major projects opening this summer this seems to have slid under the radar the most probably due to the fact that a lot of the technology is very similar to what is used in Hollywood. But from some early twitter reviews I read last night it sounds like the size and immersion of this version make it pretty unique. I love that they are incorporating live actors in to the que line, with all of their years putting on haunt events it makes sense to incorporate a similar level of detail and experience into a park attraction. This thing might actually turn out to be a lot of fun.

That looks pretty darn good for a first attempt, looking forward to some more of the 360 degree POV's in the future. Not sure how the camera is mounted, looks like you were just kind of holding it on the front of the train, but a 360 pov from an elevated position in the middle of a coaster train would be a really cool perspective one of these days. Looking forward to what you guys end up producing with this technology.

Yeah, but let's not give them too much credit, it's not like could have just bulldozed the mountain or anything, or maybe they could have I don't know. THis thing looks insane. -

^I'm not gonna lie, both of those actually look pretty cool..... -
As if the mat racer slides didn't punch you in the junk hard enough already, now riders get an opportunity to never produce children courtesy of the uphill master blaster section!!! Just kidding, sounds pretty interesting and I'd love to hear some more details. The slide type possibilities with an uphill section for a mat racer are kind of exciting really.

Antarctica at SeaWorld Orlando was the first to utilize the trackless ride system and in doing so be completely uninteresting.

Looks like a great ride, I love the overhead fish tank projections before leaving the station, nice little touch. I sure hope you're right about it doing great things for the park, just seems like my past several trips to SeaWorld Manta and Kraken were both 15 minutes to a walk on all day long even on crowded days, hopefully this thing has some sustained popularity and keeps bringing people back through the gates.

I think you mean Tommen..... although Joffrey assisting with removing the sparrows from beyond the realm may not appear to be out of the realm of possibility given that last couple episodes.

Dollywood Discussion Thread

I've been to a few opening days over the years (Wild Eagle, Diamondback, Goliath at SFOG) and I have to admit there is a certain level of energy and excitement that exists on an opening day that is pretty fun to be a part of, but honestly with Lightning Rod from day one for anyone who has been reading this forum should have know that there were issues with the ride opening and that their chances of getting on it before it is "officially" open were slim. If I lived near a park and visited several times throughout the year sure I'd try on opening day, if I'm making a trip to a new park I'm gonna wait until I know a ride has been open for a little while. And being upset because a ride is down or closed on a day you visit is understandable but get over it, things happen, especially with new technology.
