Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I’ll be at Holiday World on Monday, July 8th for my first ever visit to the park. Have a few quick questions... 1) How busy should I expect the park to be? 2) Is Splashin’ Safari worth going to? I’m not really a waterpark person but I’ve read some good things about HW’s waterpark so I might have to consider visiting. 3) Any interesting or underrated flat rides I should check out? -

Michigan's Adventure (MiA) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to MagnumForce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yesterday I visited Michigan’s Adventure for the first time and had a nice day. I’ve wanted to visit this park for a while, particularly for Shivering Timbers, and with me living only a few hours away for the summer, it seemed like a good time to go. This was the seventh Cedar Fair I’ve been to and probably the most unique one so far. In many ways it didn’t really feel like a typical Cedar Fair park. Apart from some the typical CF staples like the trash cans, FunTV, and certain food/merch locations, the park had a relatively unique feel to it, as many aspects of the park feel held over since before it was bought out, but I wasn’t bothered by it. Overall it was a great day to be at the park, weather was mostly sunny and in the low 70s. Crowds levels were very low, my only long wait all day was for Mad Mouse (20 minutes), everything else was only a one train/cycle wait. The park has an interesting selection of both coasters and flats. Below I’ll share some thoughts on the park’s coasters... -Shivering Timbers: This coaster was the reason I made the trip to MiA and it did not disappoint. The ride has a great first drop and features tons of airtime on its many hills, some floater and some ejector. The ending helix was nice too with some strong laterals. Will definitely be somewhere in my top 5 wooden coasters. -Wolverine Wildcat: Despite the fact that there wasn’t much airtime, it was an enjoyable coaster for what it was. Had some decent drops and a few laterals in some places. -Corkscrew: For a 40-year-old Arrow, it gave a relatively smooth experience. It’s a short ride but still had fun. -Thunderhawk: After being an enthusiast for several years now, I finally rode my first Vekoma SLC, and it wasn’t that bad. It was honestly bumpier on the arms and shoulders than the head, but overall was not nearly as bad as it could have been. It provided a relatively intense ride otherwise. -Mad Mouse: An exact copy of the Arrow Mouse from Valleyfair. Fun ride with nice laterals. -Zach’s Zoomer: Not bad for a family coaster. Had a few pops of airtime here and there. -

Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Trip planning question, how much time is necessary for a visit to Kentucky Kingdom? I’m planning a Holiday World-Kentucky Kingdom-Kings Island Trip for next month and wondering if Kentucky Kingdom is a park I should plan to spend a full day at or if I can ride all the coasters & best flats in a few hours and then head to Kings Island. -

It’s going to feel strange for me not being at Valleyfair at all this year. Hope you guys have a great season. -

I’m going to be visiting Dollywood next week on Wednesday. How busy does the park typically get this time of year on weekdays? -

^ Yes it is. Dorney Park’s Possessed no longer uses it, so Steel Venom currently has the only holding functional holding brake. -

Cedar Creek Mine Ride has received a new entrance sign this year for it's 50th anniversary. Looks great. Photo from Tony Clark on Twitter. -

Michigan's Adventure (MiA) Discussion Thread
VF15 replied to MagnumForce's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I’d bet Cedar Point isn’t the reason for infrequent additions to the park. It seems like Michigan’s Adventure caters to families first and foremost, and if you’re a thrill seeker, you’re pretty much expected to go to Cedar Point. From what I’ve read on this thread before, Michigan’s Adventure still has relatively high profit margins, if that’s true I doubt it’s going the way of Geauga Lake anytime soon. I don’t think proximity to Cedar Point is a reason for sparse additions either, if that were the case, Kings Island would not have gotten the significant additions they’ve received over the past decade. I’m still planning on going to MiA despite some of the negative comments here. I’ve wanted to ride Shivering Timbers for a while now, and this year seems like a good time to cross it off the bucket list since I’ll be living only a few hours away this summer. Now how much time I plan on spending in the park is still in question. -

Thanks for the input, I’ll be sure to hit Corkscrew and Wolverine Wildcat early on but my gut still says to hit Mad Mouse first (since I’d rather not wait more than 5-10 minutes for a Wild Mouse). I plan on going on a weekday so I’ll definitely consider the suggestion of spending half a day at the park and then visiting another local attraction. -

I'm planning on visiting Michigan's Adventure for a day at some point this year, likely in late July or early August. What's the best order to hit the coasters in the park (I assume Mad Mouse first due to low capacity), and are there any other tips for a first time visitor? Also, are there any hotels nearby in Muskegon that are relatively cheap but not terrible? -
A little over a month ago, Nickelodeon Universe. When was the last time you rode a coaster at night?

I noticed this in the Windseeker page on the park's website: "NOTE: This attraction is not scheduled to be open during HalloWeekends." Is this new or has CP closed Windseeker during Halloweekends in the past? -

Photo update of the Superior Stage construction. Also looks like Corkscrew’s photo booth has officially been removed. Carousel has also been getting some more refurbishment. Both photos from Valleyfair's Twitter page. -

Looks like Cedar Point will be offering All-Season Fast Lane Plus for the first time this year. Cost is $849 and goes on sale April 23rd.
