I can't say I am surprised it is closing. With Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach and Wet n Wild in the area, I couldn't see why someone would go there unless they were a huge waterpark fan. I'm sure it was a nice little water park but it seemed like it would fit in an area without other big waterparks as competition.

TR Hershey Park, 8/26
YoshiFan replied to YoshiFan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not sure if I am ready for it yet. I just started going on more intense coasters (before this week I had not been on any coaster more intense than Loch Ness Monster or Sooperdooperlooper) and I'm not sure about the whole launch and the layout. Hopefully next year -
After Wildwood earlier in the week, I decided to go to another park before the end of the summer. After stopping outside of the park for lunch, we got to the park at around 1:20 p.m. On the closed attraction list was the Kissing Tower and Sooperdooperlooper. I wasn't too upset about the Kissing Tower being closed but Sooperdooperlooper is one of my favorite coasters and I was dissapointed to see it wasn't running. First stop was the Canyon River Rapids. I had never been on a rapids ride before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew you would get wet but the rafts go directly under 4 or 5 waterfalls and everyone gets soaked. I noticed they really weren't filling the rafts well as I saw a few rafts go by with only 2 people in them (there are 6 seats in each raft). Next was the Merry Dip Fun Slides. Despite a long line, they were only running the green slides which was annoying since last year they weren't running the other side either. Still not as bad as Morey's who had a slide with at least 12 rows and only ran 1 slide! After that I wanted to try Lightning Racers. I chose the Thunder side. I thought the lift hill with one train over another was great. I couldn't believe how twisted the track was on the ride and I liked the whole racing setup. My train barely lost but it was still a fun race. Overall I enjoyed the ride. I then headed to the Whip. Whips are one of my favorite flat rides and although Hershey's is a newer model it's still great. Next up was Wild Mouse. I don't know if the brakes on the top part where it zig zags are usually turned on or not but they weren't when I was there which made for an intense ride. One of the better Wild Mouse coasters I have been on. After Wild Mouse, I went to Sidewinder. After first trying the boomerang at Morey's earlier in the week I wasn't sure about Sidewinder but went on it anyway. The first thing I noticed was extra padding on the restraint so your neck and head wouldn't get bashed as much. The Sidewinder was not nearly as rough as the Sea Serpent and I enjoyed the ride somewhat. We then headed over to Mine Town and went to the antique and sports cars. Not much to say about them other than I am glad Hershey has the ride for people who like slow moving, tame rides and they are great family rides. Next was Great Bear. I was really excited to try Great Bear because I somewhat liked the SLC at Morey's and figured a B&M invert had to be better. Not only was this my first B&M invert, but also my first B&M coaster. I sat in the front row and the view was amazing. I liked all of the inversions and the ride overall was just smooth. I'm glad I went on the SLC at Morey's first or else I probably would have hated the SLC after riding Great Bear. This is my new favorite steel coaster. While in the area, I went to the Coal Cracker log flume. The boat moves through the trough very fast as usual. While on the ride I saw they were running the Sooperdooperlooper with empty trains so I was hoping they would open it later in the day. Heading back to Pioneer Frontier, I decided to take a quick ride on the Trailblazer. It's a fun ride but way too short and a nice beginner coaster. Back in Midway America I was a little unsure of Wildcat since I heard it was rough but went on it anyway. It was somewhat rough but there was lots of airtime and the layout was decent. It was around 8:00 at this point and I still hadn't been to Comet Hollow so I headed over there with first stopping at the Fender Bender Bumper Cars and stopping to play this giant skill crane (at least 10 feet long). The Comet always seems to have a long wait no matter what time it was but it wasn't that bad. After going on Great White this week I wasn't sure if the Comet would still be my favorite wooden coaster but after another ride on the Comet I decided it still is my favorite. Still a great coaster after almost 60 years. While on the Comet I saw there were people in Sooperdooperlooper's station so I went right to that next. Every time I am in Hershey, the ride is a walkon with an empty station but this time, the line was out of the station and into the stairs. I found out this was due to a 1 train operation. I was glad Hershey decided to open the ride up despite it not opening until at least 6:00 p.m. or later, even if only 1 train was running. This was my first looper so it is a special coaster to me. I was afraid I wouldn't like it as much after being on more intense rides this week but the loop was great as always and the lap bar restraints make the ride even better. After the Sooperdooperlooper I headed over to Chocolate World for a walk on "factory tour" dark ride. A fun ride as always and the free sample at the end is always something to look forwards to. After we did some shopping it was past 10:00 p.m. and everything was closed and it was time to head home. Overall, it was a great day. I got 5 new credits and got on 8 out of the 10 coasters in the park with none of them being bad. This trip just further reminded me how Hershey is my favorite non Disney park.

Ongoing Photo TR: 7/26 Day 4: Clementon
YoshiFan replied to JamminJ's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
One of these days, I'm going to have to get to Clementon again. I was there when I was a kid but remember not liking the park much. It still sounds like things are the same (bad operations and few rides) but J2 does sound great. The whole Love Park issue has been an ongoing issue with the skateboarders and the city for a while. There was recently a protest about it a few months ago I think but it didn't do any good. I think the issue is that there just aren't many places to skate in the area. There was an indoor skatepark in the suburbs but it closed up around 2 years ago Nice photos -
TR Morey's Piers in Wildwood, 8/23
YoshiFan replied to YoshiFan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I didn't know there were all those accidents with the Sea Serpent. I'm glad I didn't know about it until know though since I was already worried about it valleying in the cobra roll and since there are no steps on that model I was concerned if it did valley I could be stuck there for hours. Knowing there were accidents would have made me a little more nervous to try it. -
edit - not sure what happened with the spacing but when I try to edit the post, the spacing looks correct but it doesn't look right when the posted. Any time I try to fix the spacing, it seems to mess up the spacing for something else in the post. Sorry about that. I decided to take a trip to Morey's today since it is the end of summer vacation and wanted to get one last park in before school next week. I got to Mariner's Landing at 3 p.m., and opted for the all ride wristband. First ride of the day was the bumper cars. It took forever for the ride to start because they only had 1 op for the entire ride. After that we went to Pirates of Wildwdood. It was something different but the 3D effects didn't work too well and the ride was very short with a slow moving line due to the low capacity boats (only 2 - 4 people a boat). Next up was Sea Serpent, the parks boomerang. I had never been on a boomerang before so wasn't sure what to expect. After a 2 train wait I boarded the car in the middle of the train. Going up the lift backwards was strange and I didn't like how it felt like you were being pushed against the restraint. I didn't really like the cobra roll as my neck hit the restraint. I also didn't like going backwards at all. I figured I needed to try the ride because I had never been on any coaster that went backwards and never had been on a coaster with an inversion other than a loop. Even with a 1 train wait when I got off the ride, I had no desire to ride again. After the Sea Serpent we headed over to Wild Wheels Pier deciding to skip the Rollie's Coaster because of the low capacity (4 seat cars) and a line that looked to be over 20 minutes. The one ride I wanted to try more than any other was Great White so that is where I went first. The pier had just opened about 15 minutes before I got there (it opens at 4 p.m. while the other 2 piers open at 12:30 p.m.). I noticed the line was out of the station which wasn't a good sign. When I got in line, I realized the line looked so long because people didn't realize you could walk around the people waiting for the front and that the station itself wasn't crowded at all. After a 3 train wait, I took a seat again in the middle of the train. The drop out of the station was great and a nice surprise. The first drop also was good and there were spots all over the ride that gave air time. I was really surprised by this coaster expecting it to be just another wooden coaster. I think it's one of my favorite wooden coasters now. I then decided to take another ride before the line got too long. This time I sat in the last car, front row. The air time was even greater in the last car. I would have just stayed at Great White the rest of the day but I had a limited amount of time so I decided I had to move on. Next up was some labyrinth. It was a little complicated but what ruined it was there were too many people in there. You could tell which paths led to nowhere by seeing people walking in the opposite direction. After that, I headed to the original pier to get some more credits. Once I got to the pier, the next ride up was The Great Nor'Easter. I have heard a lot of bad things about SLC's but having never been on any inverted coaster before I wanted to try it anyway. They were only running 1 train which I thought would cause a long line but there was only a 2 train wait. I was a little nervous going up the lift hill but once we got to the drop I was ok. It seemed like the ride was over so fast with there being inversion after inversion. I didn't think the ride was that painful and actually liked it. I plan to try to get to a park with a B&M inverted coaster next month (either Hershey or Dorney) so I can compare and see if I like those more. It was 5:20 p.m. at this point so I decided I wanted to get another credit before I left. I headed over to the Doo Wooper which is a wild mouse. The line wasn't too bad at about 10 minutes. It was probably the most boring wild mouse I have ever been on with too many brakes (especially before the first drop). After that I went to the giant slide and they were only running 1 slide (yet there were about 12 slides). After waiting way too long for a 10 second slide, I decided to finish off the day at the log flume. The wait was about 15 minutes but it was worth it. For a non Disney log flume, the ride was really long. There were 2 nice sized drops and an underground part of the ride that takes you under the Doo Wooper. According to Morey's site, the ride is 7 minutes long but I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate or not. The only other coaster on the pier was the Flitzer but the line looked to be at least 20 minutes long because the cars only hold 1 - 3 people. I have been on the Flitzer at Ocean City, NJ and I think they should call it brake run the ride, because the whole ride seems to be braked and slows down any time you pick up any speed. I didn't think it was worth the wait so I left. Overall, I had a great day at Morey's Piers and it was even more exciting since I had a chance to try some new types of coasters. I hope to go back next year and get the credits I missed and go on some flats which I didn't have the time for today.

Sonic really needs to expand. I see their commericals all the time on TV but I don't think they are in the North East at all.

Photo TR: Robb & Joey Go To White Castle!
YoshiFan replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There was a White Castle near my house for years. I never went in there because the burgers just didn't look that great. It's now an Olive Garden so I probably won't get a chance to try them anytime soon (I would probably try 1 just to see if it does taste good) -

Wow, looks like a waste of $5 (or however much it is). I will probably be at Dorney next month and am going to skip it for sure after seeing this video -
SKY PRINCESS POV!.....

Nice video, I was kind of surprised to see the new paint colors since I have not been there in around 2 years and didn't realize the coaster no longer has white paint. -
Julie goes to Indiana Beach and SFGAm Photo TR
YoshiFan replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Nice TR, it really looked crowded. You didn't miss much by not getting to Navy Pier. To me, it's the definition of a tourist trap. It seemed to be nothing but some shops with overpriced stuff, a few restaurants and a ferris wheel. -
William's Grove for sale
YoshiFan replied to coaster1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't want to see Hershey buy the park. I like Hersheypark a lot but I really don't like what Hershey did to Dutch Wonderland. They got rid of the classic ride Old Engine 99, changed the maximum height limits on some rides like the ferris wheel from 60" to 54", they posted a maximum height limit of 54" on the silo slide (I don't think there ever was a height limit) and added more skill games to the park. I could see them doing similar things with Williams Grove like getting rid of the fun house and/or the darkride. -
Mortal Kombat Theme Park!?
YoshiFan replied to ChrisFL's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That would be an interesting park, I guess the arcades would be filled with every Mortal Kombat game released and other games from Midway (too bad they got out of the arcade industry ) -
Celebrities and Athletes you've met...
YoshiFan replied to SixFlagsTexas's topic in Random, Random, Random
I met Mike Tyson 15 years ago in Atlantic City. He was shopping in some fancy clothing store and they had the whole store shut down for him. My friend and I asked if we could get his autograph and he said yes (we were only 7 at the time). -
I HATE my schedule this semester. Most of the courses I am taking are only offered at night with 2 1/2 hour classes (I have trouble paying attention for 80 minutes so 2 1/2 hours is killer) so I have a crummy schedule: Finance: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 9:40 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Management Science: Tuesday, Thursday: 8:40 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Law: Tuesday: 4:40 p.m. - 7:10 p.m. Accounting: Wednesday: 4:40 p.m. - 7:10 p.m. Accounting Info Systems: Thursday: 4:40 p.m. - 7:10 p.m.

Maybe it's a Philadelphia area thing, where all the schools are too strict?
-
My school was also strict about everything. One time I was playing cards with someone else (no gambling involved just for fun) when we had free time and a teacher walked by and told us we'd get detention if we didn't put them away. The worse was the computer rules. No message boards, no e-mail, no games, they blocked every site if it was remotely "fun" (video game message boards for example). They also had a crazy dress code but I don't think they enforced it too well.

The answer I'm sure a lot of people on this site would say, add an amusement park in the back of the White House (and I would also add a giant arcade with every DDR mix ever released and the rest of the music games from Konami).

NEWS: Six Flags Turns profit
YoshiFan replied to black sabbath's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It seems like they lure people in with cheap admission and season passes but make up for it with the way overpriced food, drinks and skill games. I know at most parks those things are overpriced but at Six Flags it seems worse than other parks. -
Dania Beach Boomers!
YoshiFan replied to RctInfinity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The drum game at that Boomer's is Percussion Freaks 5th Mix. It's the Korean version of Konami's Drummania. It's a fun game (I have the home version) but it's a lot more complicated than Taiko Drum Master which is the other drum game. I wish more US arcades had both drum games (and more music games for that matter)
