Where Are You Going in 2018?
michaellynn4 replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
2018 is split into "pre-wedding" (07/14/18) and "post-wedding" sections for me. Pre-Wedding This time period will be very lean - we actually passed on getting season passes anywhere next year in order to save money, influenced by the idea that we wouldn't have much free time on weekends to go anywhere anyway. I may visit SFGAdv with my brother with one of his BAFF discounts, but that'll most likely be it. Post-Wedding (a.k.a. "The Lynns are Going Dutch!" One of the main reasons why we're saving money now, aside for the wedding and a down-payment on a house, is because we decided that we're going to the Netherlands for our honeymoon. We're most likely staying for 10-14 days, some of which must be dedicated to non-amusement park stuff, so I'm looking at Efteling, Walibi Holland, Toverland, and maybe Attractiepark Slagharen, but only if time allows for it. Once we're home, I plan on getting the 2019 Six Flags passes in order to get into SFGAdv for the remainder of the year, too. -

Yep... This does a pretty good job of explaining why I'm 32 years old and still have no children. Ditto. -
I think one of my favorite aspects of the new addition is its placement. Many of us assumed the new addition would replace the Autobahn building. However, based on the rendering, the ride will replace that closed food stand, right by the Garden of Eatin' entrance. This will allow for future expansion in the Autobahn spot in the future (maybe Giant Discovery in 2019?). It does mean we'll lose a few more trees, though, but it's a small price to pay.

Buzz bars, no seat belts, no trims whatsoever, ride is run as it was designed to run. On face value it doesn't look like much, but once you ride it, you totally get it. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I"m torn between thinking they look disgusting but also really wanting to try one. I will if its open when we're there in the fall. Preston and Steve from WMMR got a sneak-peak taste of it when they did their annual Hersheypark broadcast in June and they really liked it. I'm intrigued myself. -
Best Theme Park Show You Have Seen.
michaellynn4 replied to methos's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rarely, if ever, used to watch any theme park shows as they just never interested me. Rikki, however, is drawn to them, so we usually budget time now to check out a show or two when visiting a park known for them. I, too, am a bit of a theater snob, and usually I end up just focusing in on all of the visible seams in the performance. Occasionally I'm entertained, but I haven't really found a show yet that blew me away. In recent memory, the ones I've seen have been the following: Dollywood Atahualpa - I remember this being fun, but longer than it needed to be. Mother Africa - Same as above, but with more botched tricks. It's a Wonderful Life - Meh. Movie is better, and that's from someone who doesn't really care for the movie too much, either. However, the performers and production were both solid, so if you're a sucker for the story, you'll like it. Twas the Night Before Christmas - Again, performers and production were both solid. However, the show left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It's nothing but a nostalgic, "rose-tinted glasses" look at what I'm sure Dollywood's target audience wishes their Christmases could still be like rather than a true telling of what they are now. I don't know, I get that it has an audience that appreciates it, but it's just so fake to me. I don't get living in the past. Six Flags Great Adventure Smash - Your basic, run-of-the-mill "Shock Magic 101" Halloween magic show. Meh. Busch Gardens Williamsburg Celtic Fyre - So far, probably my favorite one. I appreciated several aspects of the performance, primarily the singing and choreography. Downside is there isn't really a cohesive story, and, at least for my performance, a poor mic mix. OktoberZest - Maybe this would be better if it weren't in the middle of an active dining hall, but I ended up just feeling bad for the performers, desperately trying to cater to a bunch of disinterested diners. -
The last new Coaster in your Count

Grover's Alpine Express at BGW. ...shut up. -
Just finished riding it three more times. I definitely like it a lot more now than I did after just one ride yesterday. We managed to experience all three of the different effects on the drop section. Definitely seems to be more of a front row ride, though. Zach, I noticed the rattling as well when I rode in the back section of the train. Coaster didn't blow me away, but it was still fun.

Speaking of Verbolten: is it me, or is the dark portions of the ride a disappointment? I rode it once today and felt a little underwhelmied by everything. I expected there to be more in there. I can't imagine the park pulled a Six flags and not maintain the themeing. I'm going back to the park at opening tomorrow and will head to Verbolten first to get more rides and see if this was just an anomaly.
