Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
thrillseeker4552 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm wondering... does this "Intamin" folder necessarily apply to Cedar Point, or could it mean Cedar Fair in general? Just a thought. All we know is 2018 will likely be the year when Intamin and Cedar Fair finally get in touch again! Woo! -
I haven't been on any of the Sky Rocket 2s yet, however I thought both Wicked Twister and Possessed were great rides (the former being better). I wouldn't call them OMG MUST-RIDES, but they are really solid second-tier attractions. I think one would be great at CGA, especially if its an "updated" version (lap bars?), since the last Inverted Intamin Impulse coaster built was almost 15 years ago.

I find it kind of odd that SFMM's water park season starts on the exact same day as Cedar Point's water park season, despite SFMM being in a MUCH warmer climate I would have thought Hurricane Harbor at Magic Mountain would have a longer operating season (obviously not in the winter months) It would be nice if a lot of the SoCal water parks stayed open for longer. Many times, it is still crazy hot all the way through October and sometimes even November (our excessive rain & cool weather this year is an exception). Still, Knott's Soak City and I believe Raging Waters LA both open a week before Hurricane Harbor. I suppose if the park saw a need to stay open longer, it would. None of these water parks is new though, so they have all probably found their prime time where it is worth staying open.

I imagine a B&M 4D prototype would be VERY expensive, and that is one of the major reasons a park has not entertained the idea of one, I believe. Considering Cedar Fair is spending quite a bit next year with the two RMCs and the Intamin Impulse (isn't it basically confirmed at this point?), plus whatever other flat rides or water park stuff they have ready, I highly doubt Knott's will get such an expensive addition. Plus, X2 is up the road, and while that may not affect their decision much, it also may not check all the boxes for "originality" that Knott's is looking for in order to draw some crowds in 2018 and 2019. But it's so difficult at this point to make claims with absolute certainty, so who knows what they will do.

Last weekend. I went to Chick-Fil-A and left my coupons at home... When was the last time you rode a giga coaster? -
Nope, and never will! Apple geek here. Do you know how to play piano?
-
Nope. Are you over 6 feet tall?

On April 23rd for my last ride ever on Boomerang at Knott's. When was the last time you got a haircut? -
In addition to this, another reason I am inclined to believe Knott's is adding a coaster next year is the early removal of Boomerang. I don't see why they would remove a popular roller coaster so early in the year--several weeks before the crowds pour in for the summer season. I guess anything is possible at this point with so many unknowns, but this along with CGA's survey markers (again, it's only May) leads me to believe that the two California parks will get the other two roller coasters in addition to Cedar Point and Kings Dominion for 2018. Simply put, parks like Knott's and CGA are showing signs of large additions next year while other parks such as Worlds of Fun and Canada's Wonderland are not.

I think this is true. I am not certain if there is an explicit restriction out there requiring Knott's to limit noise, but they may just do so as precautionary measures considering the surrounding residential areas. That being said, the park is still pretty noisy from all four surrounding streets. Monte's loop can be heard from quite a distance away as well as Supreme Scream's air release and Boomerang's chain lift catch. I wouldn't call it a "quiet" park, but I imagine they will try to limit noise as much as possible with whatever they're replacing Boomerang with next year.

I also believe the "renewed relationship" refers to Intamin. It just makes the most sense. My predictions are the two RMCs (obviously) and some type of modern/updated Intamin Impulse for CGA. From what I can tell, all speculation should be pointed at Knott's for this "completely new type of coaster." I also think Carowinds will get their Vortex conversion next year as well (could be 2019, I suppose). Regardless, 2018 will be quite an innovative year for Cedar Fair.

Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Wait, Soaring Timbers was relocated? And it's not a park model? I haven't been following this ride much. -
Gerstlauer would technically be a renewed relationship. Cedar Fair hasn't worked with them in a while. When was the last time they worked with them? Canada's Wonderland got a flat ride from Gerstlauer last year, but aside from that, I believe Spinning Dragons at Worlds of Fun in 2004 was the last time.

Nov. 19, 2016. Marching band field championships. When was the last time you flew on an airplane? -
That really is a horrifying thought, and I think it is highly, highly doubtful. That would bring nothing new to the park (they already have an inverted coaster, 3 launched coasters, and a shuttle coaster), and if Knott's is trying to "up their game" to prepare for Star Wars Land in 2019 (from what I've heard...), an impulse coaster clone just won't do it, unless there was something incredibly unique about it. Based on the statements from Cedar Fair recently, I think we can rule out B&M all together (which is surprising), unless the "completely new coaster" is from B&M, which is doubtful. I used to be against the idea, but an RMC T-Rex actually seems like a reasonable guess at this point. Who knows, maybe Cedar Fair got some huge package deal or something with RMC for 2018. Time will tell.

Yes, if you count Manta at SWSD. Do you like pineapple on pizza?

As much as I love SFGAdv's top 3, I have to go with Cedar Point. Super hard choice though... I really love both parks. Super short Intamin drop tower or freakishly tall S&S drop tower?

Both have old-school Arrow loopers. Canada's Wonderland and Six Flags Mexico? -
How so? In hindsight, I guess that was stupid to say. My thought process was just that a brand new yellow/green coaster would make the GP think Boomerang never left, but I guess Knott's wouldn't care if people are going to ride it regardless. I've heard people say dumb things (like Boomerang is just Corkscrew with new paint), so I guess my expectations are low. It's going to be so weird looking at the Mine Ride without Boomerang's towers behind it, but hopefully an even better sight will be there next year.
