Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
ytterbiumanalyst replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Pretty much every time I go to SDC, I hear at least one person talking about wanting/not wanting to ride backwards, can their child handle backwards, etc. There haven't been backwards cars in several years. -

Game: When was the last time you...

I have never run out of gas once in 15 years of driving. When was the last time you mowed the lawn in the dark? -
Good bump. This is a cool topic I hadn't noticed. I have two lists, because I am a nerd and making lists makes me happy. The more important list I have is of which roller coasters I've ridden and when. It's not about how many; it's about which ones. I grew up with Silver Dollar City, so for me the quality of a park is greater than the sum of its rides. I would rather ride a mediocre ride in a good park than a good ride in a mediocre park. The second list is of my favourite rides and my favourite parks. I don't anguish over it, really. I kind of have a Gilligan's Island approach. I list the top several, and everything else is "and the rest." The list is very subjective. If I think back on a ride and think, "I'd really like to do that again," it's on the list. My top parks are places I would go back to right this second, even if they've changed nothing since I was there last. For posterity, because it may and probably will change, right now these are my top rides and parks: Wood - 1) Outlaw Run 2) Voyage 3) Goliath (SFGAm) Steel - 1) Wildfire 2) Mamba 3) Thunderbird (HW) Parks - 1) Silver Dollar City 2) Holiday World 3) Frontier City Note that Goliath is high on my list. I could ride that over and over. If I went back to SFGAm and rode only Goliath, I would have a good day. But overall I'd rather go back to Frontier City than SFGAm. The rides aren't as big, sure, but there are so many intangible factors that I just had more fun there. Whatever criteria you use, it's really all about having fun and doing what makes you happy.

I want to wish all our friends with autism a wonderful day. I know it's not just for today but every day. It's hard to have thoughts run so much faster than words, hard to feel and not be able to share. We get it. You bring so much to our lives that we wouldn't know otherwise. You make the world better, and you make us better. So today those of us who love someone with autism will light it up blue. It's our way of showing you how much you mean to us. You have changed the way we see things, not just for one day but forever.

Prozach626 would go back. What if the storm ends and I don't see you as you are now ever again?

Last summer in Oklahoma we had planned to go to Bell's, but after news that he wasn't working on it anymore, we skipped it and went to the Tulsa Zoo instead. When was the last time you ate a Scotch egg? -
Major League Baseball Thread

And the new season is here! Cardinals and Pirates at noon tomorrow, first one that counts. PNC has the best view from home plate of any MLB stadium. And whose wonderful and evil idea was it to open the season with the Royals and Mets as the evening game? Give that person a raise! -
Yes. My poor Super NES controllers.... Have you ever wondered what happens after "happily ever after"?

The best days to go are generally Tuesdays-Thursdays. This avoids the crowds on the weekends and anyone that has a three day weekend. Also any days that have rain in the forecast are good to go. The crowds will be minimal and SFSTL doesn't close most ride because of rain or wind (there are of course some exceptions to that). You probably wouldn't need to spend any money other than food and parking if you don't have a gold pass. No need for a flash pass unless its a very very busy day. I'm not asking because I want to go, Ive worked at the park for far too many years and know what each day of the year is like... Im just curious to what our season pass holders here on TPR choose what days to go and if they fork out any money. Ok, cool. In that case I'll answer, as our situation is a little different. We live in the Springfield area, so our trips have to be planned. We get a hotel for Saturday night and go to the park Saturday and Sunday. That's not what I would recommend to a St. Louis resident, but it works best for us. Saturday we usually arrive around noon and have a picnic in the parking lot, then go into the waterpark until it closes, change and spend the last hour or two in the main park until it closes doing mainly flat rides and maybe a coaster if the lines aren't bad. Sunday we'll arrive at opening and make that our coaster day. We escape to the parking lot for another picnic lunch, and we'll usually leave around 5 or so. We buy the season refill cup, and other than that, don't spend a lot on food and drinks. Honestly it's about the time as much as the money. It's usually faster to go all the way out to the van than it is to stand in line at a food stand. We do usually bring some money for the kids to play a game. I like that most of them are of the variety that you get a prize no matter what. We have a few capes and raccoon tails around the house now.

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
ytterbiumanalyst replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My biggest pleasant and unpleasant surprises both occurred at Six Flags Great America. Pleasant: Vertical Velocity I did not expect a whole lot from this, being a shuttle coaster. I was in the park mainly for Goliath, but you know, while you're there.... This wasn't the most intense coaster there, but it was definitely fun. #2 in the park behind Goliath. I'm really looking forward to riding Steel Venom and Wicked Twister this year, based entirely on that experience. I know there are a few clones out there, but these should be cloned more. It was a really good time. Unpleasant: Raging Bull I went into this with high expectations. Wildfire and Mamba are two of my favourites, and Raging Bull seemed like a perfect combination of the two. I rode in the back row, right side, which is the best seat on the B&M's I had been on (at that time a handful of floorless and inverts). The first drop was good, but the way it hit the trim brake hard on the next hill meant it never really recovered. It just meandered through the rest of the course and was overall very disappointing. I'd take anything else in that park over Raging Bull, save Superman. -
Forceless coaster?
ytterbiumanalyst replied to gbioryl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Everything before the "In all seriousness" wasn't meant to be taken literally. But to call a coaster that hits 0.5G and 4G "forceless" is ridiculous. Go do things. Have an opinion about things you've done. Find out what you like and what you don't. There's nothing wrong with saying "I went on a B&M hyper and didn't like it" (I'm looking at you, Raging Bull). But to try to make your opinion sound like some sort of objective scientific analysis of gravitational forces is ignorant. So like I say, just go have fun. The more you ride, and the more kinds of things you ride, the better you'll know what you like and what you don't. And then you can do the things you like more often. -
Forceless coaster?
ytterbiumanalyst replied to gbioryl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's certainly an odd term. I've never encountered it myself in the real world. Seems to be unique to coaster forums. Near as I can tell, it's used to describe a coaster that never deviates from a G force of 1, though I think some people may be confusing the coaster with the queue. Most queues spend too much time at 1G. I wish parks would realize no one wants a forceless queue. Put an airtime hill in there, or a loop, or something. They're all just flat turns, straight sections, and railings. In all seriousness, ignore all posts using the term "forceless." You'll be a happier person. Go ride coasters. Have fun. -

That's not a fact, it's an opinion. And often that opinion is based on selective criteria. -

^ Agreed. We're going to make the nine-hour drive this summer, but it's honestly mostly for MOA, with Valleyfair as a "while we're in the area...." type of attraction. That said, I'm very excited to get to experience this park. Maybe nothing there is any different from other things I've already ridden, but it looks like a good time nonetheless. -

Than you so much for posting this! I just bought my ticket! I've had the hotel booked for months; this ticket was literally the last piece of the puzzle. All set for Valravn now!
