  1. I don't rely on apps, but I do download them before I go and use them to prepare for my trip and to help find things while I'm there. If you've been enough places, you know what kinds of rides usually have the longest waits. Plus the forum gives good information about which ones to go to first. I've never used any apps besides official park apps.
  2. As long as the car passes the 135 degree angle then it is an inversion. I really don't get how this can be so confusing. It's not confusion now that you've cleared it up, I just disagree with your definition. Who decided that was the magic number? Nebuchadnezzar's astronomers.
  3. The best roller coaster in the Midwest is 45 minutes from my house, in Branson.
  4. Oh, please do! I pop in there from time to time because I'm planning to visit that park this summer, but every time I do I regret it. That thread needs strippers badly.
  5. ^ That Mater's ride looks really cool! That would totally be a hit in that area. Hi-Lo Silos is a 40" minimum, that's why I said there's nothing for kids under that height in that area. A good ride that people of all ages can ride is important in every area of this park, so that the older kids/thrill seekers have something, as do the smaller kids/people who like more relaxing rides. I think a lot of people are coming from the standpoint of your standard amusement park when they suggest taking out the stuff for small kids to build big thrill rides. SDC has more in common with Disney than it does with Worlds of Fun or Six Flags. It's amazing to me to see the demographic difference. I don't ever see roving bands of teenagers at SDC like I do at the other Missouri parks. It's families, often with kids of various ages, and there needs to be something for everyone in every area of the park. Grand Expo, Half Dollar Holler, and Fireman's Landing are all a fair distance from each other, and concentrating all the kids' rides in one area just doesn't work for SDC like it does for other parks. It's a unique and special place, and they have to do things differently.
  6. I'm not sure why everyone seems to assume that the Insectarium would have to go if a coaster were built in that area. The tallest ride is Wings of Wonder, and it's maybe 15 feet at it highest point. They could easily have the coaster go right over them, or around. That area is very popular with the under 36" crowd, so much so that SDC bought a second Happy Frogs for Fireman's Landing. Relocating it would diminish the quality of the Expo significantly. Also, I get the feeling that people who say "move it all to Half Dollar Holler" haven't been to Half Dollar Holler. There's room for either the Ladybugs or the Happy Frogs. Wings of Wonder wouldn't fit. Unlike roller coasters, flat rides take up a specific amount of ground, and that area is just very crowded. I guess if they really, really wanted the rides in that area, they could demolish the Bears in the Holler building, but that store is a money maker, and the location is perfect for that merchandise. More flat rides in the Outlaw Run/Wilson's Farm area would be a good idea, though, especially if they target smaller children. There's nothing in that area that kids under 40" can ride; closest ride for them is the River Blast, and that's a good walk.
  7. No, his brother Philip did. Have you ever gone down a hill in a sled when there wasn't any snow?
  8. Yes, especially in the winter. Have you ever been the very model of a modern major general?
  9. We are now literally watching the grass grow. At least you're not watching the paint dry. Hey!!! That was some of the best paint I have ever watched dry... in my life! I don't know. Disney's Watchin' Paint Dry Over California is pretty exciting.

  11. Yes, crowds will be heavy on the weekend, but ride lines will be reasonable. A lot of World Fest guests are there for the shows. Plus, SDC's ops are amazing. I have seen on many occasions Wildfire's line out the door yet I was on in 15 minutes. You don't stand in line at SDC; you momentarily pause between steps. They do sell the Trailblazer Pass on Saturday but not Sunday. This area is fairly religious, so Sunday mornings the park is empty, and it fills up starting around 1. You shouldn't need the Trailblazer pass this weekend if you go to Powder Keg first. All other coaster lines will be under a half hour.
  12. Platinum gives double rides without leaving your seat on all but Goliath, Giant Drop and Vertical Velocity and allows you to reserve Goliath twice in a day. You cannot reserve Goliath with a Gold. Also Gold is 50% wait time and Platinum is 90% reduced wait time. That's not true, and not even Six Flags claims that. The claim is "up to 50%" and "up to 90%." It's not a key difference.
  13. Still get a wristband with the Platinum pass. It's for letting you re-ride immediately if you wish. We never used that feature when we there back during Spring Break. I sorta felt bad enough jumping the queue as it was!! haha You shouldn't feel bad about it; if you paid the hefty fee to purchase platinum, you should absolutely take advantage of it whenever possible. Definitely! The double rides is the main distinguishing feature between Gold and Platinum. It's what really cuts down on your wait time, since you do still have to wait a little for each ride. If your wait is 10 minutes from the cutoff point, then with Gold you wait 20 minutes for two rides, and with Platinum you wait 10 minutes for two rides. I'd say if you don't do the double rides, you might as well just get Gold instead.

  15. Supposedly they are elongating the other festivals next year - but Brad Thomas is being very secretive on what is replacing it. Told the citizens it'll be August before he announces I'd be very happy if they made BBQ & Bluegrass two months long. Of course they still need to get some more outside BBQ vendors to take part. Absolutely! There is now such thing as too much barbecue. If you think you've had too much barbecue, that's because you haven't had enough barbecue.
  16. My guess is a Festival of Diving. Featuring diving bells, diving ticket prices, and a dive coaster.
  17. I saw it. It was quote visible from Mamba. No idea what it is, though.
  18. Same here. Yesterday was the first time I had ever snapped a flyer, and I managed to do it 3 times in a single cycle. WoF does not have a rule against snapping. They do have a rule against sudden or erratic movement on the flyers, but with high winds yesterday, you didn't have to move it very suddenly at all for it to snap. My son and I rode it together, and he loved it when it snapped. Profuse giggling each time.
  19. In general, I do have the most fun at places that are popular but not super crowded, have 4 or 5 good roller coasters, plus all the other park staples (Ferris wheel, carousel, log flume, etc.). I have the most fun at places like this, and don't feel rushed to get to everything. A small park can outdo a larger one on service easily, because the bigger you are, the harder it is to keep a consistent service level across all employees. Guests will come for the rides, but they'll come back because of how well they were treated.
  20. Wow, that station looks really good! It's distinct yet fits in with other stations in the park. Great design!
  21. ^^ Yeah, Carousel Park definitely went out with a whimper. They never added anything after 2011, but up to the end of 2014 there weren't any signs of it closing at all. Then it just simply didn't open in 2015. The owner apparently wanted to retire, so they sold off all the rides and that was that. Shame, really; the midway wasn't much, but the newer additions were really nice, especially the go karts. I don't believe I've seen another go kart track with a chicane. It was a great track.
  22. Once again I discover new and awesome things via RCDB. Hydro Adventures in Poplar Bluff is the owner of the Tiger Terror coaster as well as 4 other rides from Route 66 Carousel Park. New this year is a scrambler and a new coaster "Galazy," which I would guess is a Galaxi model. Poplar Bluff is a long way from everything, and Tiger Terror and Galazy would not be reason enough to go, but this sounds great for locals. If nothing else, this is evidence that the new owner is investing in the park. www.hydroadventures.com
  23. Everything of importance absolutely could, and most likely, everything period. Excellent news! That'll make for a long day, but a better day than merely driving back home.
  24. This is great news! Croatia, and especially the Dalmatian coast, is one of those up and coming vacation spots. Its popularity has been growing in recent years, since it offers a lot of the same things Italy does at far less cost. You don't get the Italian culture, but you do get Roman antiquities and a beautiful coastline. The number of attractions in this area has grown enough that a theme park could really do well with tourists.
