  1. This relatively healthy economy probably won't last much longer, though, so I wouldn't get my hopes too high. True. I'm no economist, I just pay attention to what real economists say. So when the OP asked the question in a way that assumed the current US economy is terrible, I felt that it needed to be pointed out that pretty much every economist says the opposite. People who invest millions of dollars in their business are going to pay attention to the economy, so it's no coincidence that they started building new rides again right about the time the economy was beginning to recover.
  2. Oh wow, you're right. I totally misread the schedule. Well, that changes things then. Cameos sounds like a pretty good place. If there's an upside to 2 fewer hours at Cedar Point, it's more dinner options.
  3. Cool. I will check their website closer to trip time, and sounds like Friday's is a good alternative. Thanks everybody!
  4. The Underground (Adventureland)
  5. The US economy is booming right now. Yes, there was a recession, but it's been over since 2012-2013, depending on where you are. Theme park construction generally restarted about that time, same with investment in other industries.
  6. You really can just hang out at Knoebels and take a leisurely pace and still do a lot. I say that and I went in early August during a very busy time. I also don't do a lot of spinning flats, but I still found a lot to do at Knoebels. Try to catch the brass rings on the Grand Carousel. You'll need to dash to an outside horse and fight off some kids to do it. So worth it. So fun. As for Skyrush...well, the restraints are going to be uncomfortable. More uncomfortable than Storm Chaser for sure. Just be prepared for that. Hopefully they don't hurt. I didn't find them painful at all, but I definitely felt a lot of pressure. They're just weirdly designed and you should know that going in. Oh, and don't apologize for talking about Knoebels. Knoebels should be in every thread.
  7. Hmm, the site has opening times but not closing.... Okay, that may not be an option then. Anyone know if Quaker Steak is open past 10PM in the summer? Their website says they close at 10PM on Thursdays, but that's winter hours. Excellent, I love good wings. I'll be in Sandusky just on Thursday and Friday, though.
  8. Having seen it in person, the video does make it look faster than it really is. Should be fun, glad to see a POV, if only a teaser.
  9. I'm pretty sure HW taking out billboards in STL is at least partially the reason for the new water slide.

  11. You're going to love both those parks. I have a feeling you'll be more of a Hershey guy than Knoebels, and mostly because they have beer. Stay on site for both parks, really. The perks are worth it. Nothing quite like waking up and walking into Knoebels for breakfast. It felt like I was a kid again at summer camp. Both parks have cabins, and the quality is definitely better at Hershey than Knoebels. Knoebels is more DIY than corporate gloss, which I love, but I'm also a hillbilly from the Ozarks.
  12. Quick trip planning question. I'm planning to get to Cedar Point the day before Coastermania and ride some stuff until closing, which is 10PM that day. Looking for some late night food after closing, and I'm looking at Quaker Steak or Thirsty Pony. Haven't been to either. Both places just have their winter hours up right now, but I would assume they'd want to stay open after Cedar Point, right? I'm staying at the Hojo across the street from Thirsty Pony, so both of these are in walking distance. Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations are welcome.
  13. Another great offseason thread. There were a bunch of good ones this year. 1. The Outlaw Run 2. The Skyrush 3. The Phoenix 4. The El Toro 5. The Voyage 6. The Mystery Mine 7. The Nitro 8. The Thunderbird (HW) 9. The Wild Eagle 10. The Great White Honourable mention to The Skull Mountain. It was terrible but so great at the same time. And I know it wasn't asked for, but I'm a nerd and I like lists, so I'm going to make one of the best flats I rode this year too. 1. "IT" (Moreys) 2. Flyers (Knoebels) 3. Zumanjaro (SF Great Adventure) 4. AtmosFEAR (Moreys) 5. Grand Carousel (Knoebels) 6. Conestoga (Lake Winnie) 7. Bumper Cars (Knoebels) 8. Whipper (Knoebels) 9. 1001 Nachts (Knoebels) 10. Giant Barn Swing (Silver Dollar City)
  14. Yep, it's Newton's Fourth Law of Motion. "A body in motion which wert built by Swiss engineers whose countenance shalt be initialised B. et M. shall remain in motion, the intensity of which is inversely proportional to the temperature of the surrounding air." --Sir Isaac Newton, 1712.
  15. Whoa, wait a second. Don't do Knoebels on Memorial Day. The suggestion was for the Monday after Memorial Day. Knoebels doesn't sell wristbands on Memorial Day, and you want to visit it on a wristband day. Trust me on that. Don't go visiting the best classic amusement park and shortchange yourself. And don't get Fast Lane at Dorney. There are way more entertaining ways to pointlessly blow a wad of money. It's basically like the CF Platinum Pass except that instead of all the perks chainwide like CF does, Six Flags won't give you discounts or anything outside the park where you bought it. Just free admission and free parking.
  16. First of all, I'd take this whole itinerary and move it a week later. Yeah, it's farther in the summer, but it's not Memorial Day weekend, and that helps a lot. Start driving on Friday after work and try to get to Cleveland. That will make Saturday driving much better. Leave Waldameer after a couple of hours and drive to Hershey for their preview. You get to enter the last couple of hours, and people start to leave early. Lines are very short, and you can knock out low capacity coasters like Storm Runner. You'll then spend all day Sunday at Hershey, and it'll make the day smoother. That puts Knoebels on a Monday. This is important because they sell all day wristbands only on weekdays. On weekends it's pay per ride only. Tuesday you can do Dorney in a couple of hours then drive to Great Adventure. They don't have a preview day like Hershey does, but you can make your own with a Gold season pass. Even if you don't have one, just buy one. Watch for sales, and you can end up paying about $10 more than a one day ticket. Then maybe try to take a weekend trip to Chicago later in the year because you'll get in free. The rest of your itinerary looks good. You'll be exhausted, but memories are worth it.
  17. Honestly that's an upgrade. Slight one I would kind of love it, since it would be right across from Batman.
  18. Cool! Can't wait for the Vekoma SLC to replace Ninja!
  19. Who hates Batman? The Riddler, and maybe Ben Affleck.........
  20. Oh man, that may have been the first thread in the history of Twitter that was actually entertaining.
  21. I disagree. The history of the presidency is a maasive political statement. Disney himself believed in capitalism, American exceptionalism, and scientific progress. Those are political statements, and Disneyland is positively dripping with them. What you won't find is partisan politics, which are divisive and pointless. But the politics we call American values are very much a part of the parks, and that's evident in how hard Disney lobbied to have the Lincoln and Hall of Presidents attractions. The Walt Disney Co. is not honouring Trump by including his AA in this attraction. They're honouring Walt Disney.
  22. Sounds promising. Hope they get that hotel. Finding a place to stay near Jackson was one of the hardest parts of my trip planning this year, and I ended up staying in a terrible motel a few miles away. Would have loved to find something close or on site, especially since I stayed on site at Knoebels, Hershey, and Moreys that same trip.
  23. There were two Beach Blasts that I know of, in 1985 and 1986, August of each year. I don't know if any others occurred or not. The shirt is likely from one of those years.
