Cedar Fair's revenue was $1.16 billion in 2014. Their net income (after all expenses paid) was $108.6 million. Taking a look at the pie chart presented for adjusted EBITDA , you can see how the parks perform against each other. After making a custom pie chart (with exact values) I was able to compare it to the CF pie chart and get a rough estimate of each park's adjusted EBITDA. Cedar Point (25%) - $27.2 million Knott's Berry Farm (20%) - $21.7 million Kings Island (12%) - $13.03 million Canada's Wonderland (11%) - $11.9 million Carowinds (8%) - $8.7 million Kings Dominion (7%) - $7.6 million Worlds of Fun (5%) - $5.4 million Dorney Park (4%) - $4.3 million Valleyfair (3%) - $3.3 million Great America (3%) - $3.3 million Michigan's Adventure (2%) - $2.2 million -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
JonnyRCT3 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Complainers will always complain, but I think Carowinds is moving in the right direction with this one. With the addition of Fury which is aimed at thrill seekers and giving the park national attention, makes the park a "hot" destination. And the new Dining & show options (which cater towards everyone) provide good deals on food which give people more incentive to buy (thus increasing revenue). These additions appeal to a wide variety of people, re-gaining the public's interest in the park. And now with the waterpark expansion, Carowinds again re-gains the public's attention by showing them that not only do they offer world-class thrills, but also a great waterpark. This could possibly lead to extended stays, and the longer the guests stay the more likely they are to spend more money. Cedar Fair's strategy to accelerate Carowinds forward is wonderful. The park is moving away from Thunder Road, and into the future with Fury & water. This park is shaping up nicely. -
Your 5 year plan and predictions for any park

I know this is a "post your personal 5-year plan" thread. But cripes, everything is coasters. You're parks would fail instantly. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

That picture was from the CPVR app's code. I just used Photoshop to color in the supports and track. This is my NL2 mockup that I put out a couple weeks ago, but I updated the colors to match the support color we know now. I find it "funny" how those white textured models came out in such clarity, and yet the "on ride" footage came out like a potato. Something isn't quite right there. The current i Phone processing power is nearly on-par of what desktops could do in 2008. So the "cannot give good quality due to low phone processing power" excuse seems fishy. I know that's not the device the "leaks" were found on, but still. Something isn't right here. Maybe I'm missing something? Anyways, I also find it odd that they used No Limits for those models. Nothing is official yet, but I'm certainly leaning towards the "it's real camp" as someone mentioned before. -

^That is based off a no limits mock-up correct? Or is that model (which you colored) ported directly from the app? I'm confused between if it is a mock-up from no limits, or a direct port from the app. -

Iron Dragon isn't a bird, but it has wings. So that makes 4 flying animals. Iron Dragon, Raptor, GateKeeper, Valravn. -

I'm sure the park is well aware of the dangers it could cause. However, loose articles are not permitted on rides. It would be best to install them directly onto the restraints, this would be easiest with OTSR. -

I've never heard a complaint from either of those rides from the GP. Anyways, a bit off topic. Coaster enthusiasts seem to have a single mindset anymore, and thus the definition should be changed to; -

If CP ever goes with another wood coaster, they would most likely go with RMC. The maintenance nightmare that is Mean Streak, and the lack of a wooden coaster since, is evidence enough that CP isn't exactly thrilled with wooden coaster technology. RMC offers topper track, which reduces the wear and tear on the track, thus offering a day one-experience for years to come. All CP needs to do is call up RMC and ask for revision of MS, but with topper track. So many wooden coaster records shattered and an incredible ride experience. -

They only seem to be making forceless designs for Cedar Point. Banshee and Fury 325, while not exactly on an Intamin level, are still pretty forceful. CP has enough extreme coasters, I actually like the change of pace with GateKeeper. If CP gets a large dive coaster from B&M, it will most certainly be enjoyable by everyone. -
The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread
JonnyRCT3 replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was pleasantly surprised by Anaconda at Kings Dominion. The ride was a bit jerky, but not nearly to the extent as everyone makes it out to be. It's actually a really fun coaster that had a lot of fun elements. I was also unpleasantly surprised by the lack of airtime on i305, especially when considering it has a few bunny hills. It was barely noticeable, virtually non-existent. -

In before everyone freaks because Robb posts something that they believe is related to a new attraction. ...you'll see that what I was referring to as "fluky" was the amount of time between Maverick and Gatekeeper, not the ride itself in any way. Well, that clears that issue up. -

I think Gatekeeper was just somewhat of a fluke or a long pause for coasters after Maverick. If you look back at Cedar Point's history, since the 80's they've built new/record breaking coasters every few years. Magnum, Mean Streak, Rapor, Mantis, Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill Dragster (plus a kiddie coaster in there) were all built in a time frame of four years max in between (Mantis and Millennium Force). After Maverick, and acquiring the Paramount parks, they wanted to focus on other parks, and re-imagine the image of Cedar Point being more well rounded (not that it wasn't already). So, they took a five year break (2008-12) at Cedar Point, then got right back on track with Gatekeeper. Two years of pretty minor investments relative to the parks history (excluding the Breakers renovation which was funded from a waterpark sale) and you have another great opportunity to re imagine the Marina gate for what is presumably much more affordable than Gatekeeper. Anyways, that just my theory. It's not that this was particularly sped up, it's just the period of time between Maverick and Gatekeeper was a sign of change for the company. I agree. Most CF parks, pre Paramount buyout, have taken the back burner as the newly acquired parks have seen the most capital invested into them. When you spend a billion on something, you need to invest everything you can to ensure the maximum return. The post-Paramount parks have seen at least one, sometimes two, 20+ million dollar investments since the buyout. CF does this every time they acquire new parks, WOF, VF, and ever DP saw some of their largest investments soon after CF acquired them. However I don't find GK to be a fluke, at all. Regardless of capacity the ride still puts through more people than MF (the parks star coaster). If the ride was in any form "bad" those numbers would be much less as people wouldn't bother riding it. Despite whatever the enthusiast may say, GK has been quite the success. With the addition of last years family rides, CP has gained (at minimum) $19.8 million dollars worth of additional revenue, compared to the two previous years before its installation. -

All wing coaster in-line rolls are taken at approximately the same pace, so I don't see why this is an issue at all. It's a slow roll over the gate with some choppers - everything it is intended to do. If you were expecting some mind blowing roll, then you are unfairly misjudging that particular element. A MCBR is a MCBR, and the helix has strong positive Gs towards the end followed by some light Gs over the following hill. It's a wing coaster, why do people continue to expect the next Montu out of them? They are all about "Nothing above, nothing below. An unprecedented feeling of freedom." Not your run of the mill thrilling scream machine. If a seasoned enthusiast has a moderately to even an above moderately thrilling experience, it does its job in spades. -
