Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
JonnyRCT3 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^SkyRush is a big drop, airtime, curve & repeat. I305 is big drop, lots of curves and s-bends. Couldn't have said it better. If the park does decide to go with an Intamin a family drop coaster, water coaster, aqua trax, or a mine train coaster would be the only coasters in their portfolio that KD could gain from in terms of diversity. Anything else seems redundant, and can be done just as well and more reliable from another company. -

Hahaha for me, this is more then I was thinking for today. And yes I won't wait 45 for Maverick. I apparently always visit on the worst days because I have NEVER seen a wait less than an hour for Maverick in the past 4 years. -

That's exactly what I305 is, a giant Intamin Blitz. They killed two birds with one stone by combining both the Giga & LSM coasters together. I305 is MF's first hill with a similar layout to Maverick following. I wouldn't expect anything the lines of a Giga or LSM to be added to KD's portfolio anytime soon. Or really anything Intamin at all. B&M is the way to go anymore for CF. -

This is the most accurate review I've read of GateKeeper. It is just an all around fun ride with lots of re-readability. -

Literally every manufacturer's coaster's would need to be down a three months consecutively for that to happen. -

^I agree. Maverick in the back is pure bliss. -
Not surprising that FF removed more themeing from the theater, but a new show seems like a fair trade. I'ts also great that there are more food options, never can have too many of those. I have a feeling Delirium may suffer the same fate as the Crypt, it's probably only a matter of time until the ride will cease to invert riders. I also noticed Tempest's entrance was moved, that may make the entrance easier to find. Anyways, that 2001 project is looking more like a 2002 project now. The same thing happened to X at Magic Mountain, so I wonder if this could be a 4D coaster.

Another arrow looper was unexpected, but Cobra does look impressive and a big step up from Steel Sidewinder. I like how there are twin bunny hills in front of the twin loops, that's quite clever and unique. The helix around the support structure would be a crazy experience with the constant head-choppers. -
Weird Coaster Facts

Probably because stand up's never fully utilized three trains due to slow operations, and it just works out better with two. So KK probably never ordered three. -

True, Kings Dominion doesn't need anything new next year! They already have enough coasters that people will go there anyway! Exactly. There was no new big attraction this year, and yet they still got my money because I knew it was still a great park to visit. Funny how that works. -

It's forceless; or, to be more precise, "Not as good as I-305." Unless KD is planning on building another fast & constantly low-to-the ground coaster, with quick-directional changes, prepare for masses of complaints. Basically, anything that isn't an Intamin giga...err Intimidator 305 will be sh*tted on by KD fanboys. "B&M Giga coaster 1 doesn't have enough quick directional changes for me." "B&M Wing Coaster 1 isn't Intimidator 305 enough for me!" "Intamin rocket coaster 1 has 300 moments of floater, but only 1 moment of ejector. Such a waste!" -

I do agree to disagree, but you've never elaborated on how they are similar How is getting a coaster "unfortunate"? Do you enjoy this hobby at all? -

What? Wing coasters are nothing like floorless coasters. Sitting coasters are the only thing similar to floorless coasters in the B&M portfolio. -

Gosh i hope not! I was really dissapointed with the camelback on Gatekeeper (i would rather there be a loop, i really enjoyed the one on Wild Eagle!) It sounds totally realistic though, but even if there is no airtime i think i would still rather prefer a camelback to a splashdown even though it is not as visually appealing. Hmmm, complaining about a hill that isnt very forceful on a ride that's designed to be not very forceful. You can get some nice floater over that hill on the back row. Honestly, the back row provides the most "forceful" experience, it even managed some floater on that hill before the final brakes. But as you said, this ride isn't supposed to be about intensity at all. It's purpose is to provide the freedom of flight. If you like roller coasters that are thrilling, fun, smooth, tall, fast, long, and extremely re-ride-able; GateKeeper is the "go to" coaster. With all that in a coaster, it not being a super-intense airtime machine seems vaguely relevant. If someone wanted that, and rode GateKeeper, they obviously don't know how roller coaster work. -

^^I remember riding Black Widow on its inaugural year, and thought the same thing myself. The ride has a ridiculously slow load time. Something needs to be done.
