  1. Hah, I'm liking how B&M has finally made a support (beside Alpengeist) that is more intersting than a tube on the MCBR.
  2. It looks like mud to me. Maybe the fins were in a muddy place, like that grass field, perhaps? But then again, it's too "flat" to be mud.
  3. The whole point of quality tests is to check for the flaws like this. I'm glad that Reverchon has been found guilty (I rode Primeval Whirl and I can't imagine how jerky it was to be involved in that crash in Lightwater). They really should have taken extra scrutiny when checking the ride, if indeed the problem was caused before the ride was opened to the public, IMO. Edit-Oh yeah, welcome to the boards And if you've been reading the forums before signing up to make a post (like I did when I started) then congrats on making your first post.
  4. I just realized that a pump would only get into the track if the designer chose to. I think they use a simple "this turn has this radius" which is simpler than "this turn has a radius of X and at this point switches to Y". No Limits isn't real life, so I don't think there really is pumping to the extent seen in the game in real life.
  5. I've noticed that when riding in a car, the driver sometimes does the pumping style turn. It's like when there is a curve in the road, the driver follows the curve but sometimes can't hold the steering wheel still, so the turn radius is moved away from. So, there's pumping when turning on the freeway, so I don't see what's so bad about it in real life other than it looks weird.
  6. Ah, that's nice to see, especially the blueprints. And I didn't know Intamin used Son of Beast style track for their loops back then. Ah, only 11 years, what a waste
  7. There's the Nut Tree park and Funderland which have small Miller coasters, so they don't count Yeah, my homepark is Marine World/Discovery Kingdom and its best ride is either Roar or Medusa, and I don't count V2 as a real roller coaster since it only goes in a linear pattern. To me a roller coaster needs to have more curves than in a straight line.
  8. There's one in the Sacramento area that I heard about on the radio, which I think was called "Safetyville" http://safetycenter.org/svusahome.html
  9. Since this ride is being scrapped, would it be possible to run the trains on the track to see what happens...I've always wanted to know what would happen if the cars flew off like in RCT "They may as well" I think, there's no real value in keeping the trains I think, since Intamin uses newer models.
  10. Now I've seen pics of an Intamin and a Vekoma being scrapped, so now I want to see a B&M get scrapped as well since I've always wanted to see how their track is constructed inside. I think they may be two halves welded together, so if a B&M were scrapped, it would pop in half. So, this ride looked fun but also looked like it was pretty ugly. Maybe dueling steel coasters will be popular again someday.
  11. White socks, some plaid pajamas, and a "Canyon River Blues" shirt. I don't know where Canyon River is (it's a brand name)
  12. Actually, all that needs to be done is get the average human's head measure, multiply by nine, then that's Sheikra's track width. For Griffon, another reference could be used... Anyways, I don't care, the track should be as wide as it needs to be safe.
  13. Hey, I'm Thomas Jackson and live in Sacramento, California. I've been in a great big "L" through the US so I've been to the Six Flagses in California, SFOT, I've seen Astroworld, I've been on countless fair coasters, and I've been to Disneyland and Disneyworld and Knotts. So, I've been on less than 50 roller coasters! I didn't post here when I signed up, so that's why I have 100 or so posts right now. I am at these forums becuase, that's my interest is in seeing roller coasters and I check the news here. So there
  14. I know that as well, I went on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster which is 80 feet tall but a basic boomerang is taller Shure didn't feel that way. Also, I hated seeing pictures of that ride in Russia that had no themeing but scaffold, it just seemed too "naked"
  15. I usually figure those things out by "head" as in I'll get a picture, find a person's head, then use that as a reference: Head of the Sheikra.bmp Sheikra track is nine heads accross. Picture taken from RCDB.
  16. The picture from RCDB makes that part look fun, so it may just depend on which angle it's looked at I too noticed that the rides sometimes slow down before taking those sharp parts (based on some videos of Meisho rides). And if I were on a water ride, I would actually prefer a cloaking device (I know, I'm a wuss) since it feels weird to have heavy water all over my body when walking around a park!
  17. For those interested: http://drkssk.fc2web.com/zekkyou/local/myoko/big/big.html Some pictures of a classic Meisho ride with zany track bending antics. I especially like this one: http://drkssk.fc2web.com/zekkyou/local/myoko/big/bignori11.jpg I don't want to know what made them think of that. I made turns like that when I started NoLimits. Edit-Links are not longer pointing to correct page (6/14/2007)
  18. What the heck? I used to think of hypers as 200+ft but now think of them as the epitome of what I want from a steel roller coaster (wildness without roughness). Also Owen, please don't say that about Americans, languages are living and if the term hyper seems to connote different meanings, than why can't it have a double meaning? If Marine World couldn't remove its height building limit I'd be perfectly fine with a hole being dug to put one of these bad ass rides in (and I'm glad to see that it's really the ride's design and not its height that deems it turely praiseworthy). Also, based on videos and opinions, I'll agree with Elissa's list, until I ride the rides in the future and maybe discover that they age badly
  19. Wow, didn't see that topic Looks like track designs (not layout, but rails/ties/etc) aren't copyrighted; I want to see what a Chinese rip off of B&M looks like, that would be weird... which hopefully Dubailand won't be, by sticking to tried and true manufacturers.
  20. Yeah, okay, so it could just be the circular loop and sharp curves that turn me off. Hopefully that's just a figure/enterance adornment, since I believe they aren't so stupid to make a ride like that real... it just looks W R O N G in my eyes.
  21. Hey, I just looked at the Dubailand Wikipedia page and found this disturbing image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Dubailand2006.jpg#filehistory It says "self made photograph" by somebody, but if that's a real rollercoaster, then I'll just stay away from Dubailand
  22. Dammit, I wish I put two and two together and went to the Germany pavillion to see Soren when I went during summer I didn't want to go to the German pavillion because I had no money and there was no river ride there, drat...
  23. Geez, I wonder what it would feel like on the ride at that speed! And when I get stapled, I keep it inside of me without yelling, but my face looks like this
  24. I think they are planning this to be a fun center and not a huge park. Honestly I think it will succeed because there aren't that many competitors in Utah. Nobody seems to like building parks in the western desert that are good, so they don't have to worry about competing that hard.
  25. I remember that happened at the CA state fair two years ago. He wasn't hurt badly, I've gotten more pain running and tripping than he did. Very lucky the kid didn't land in a worse way though. THEN he would be in more pain. EDIT: Talking about the youtube video link. About the help me kid: He was never in danger, just in a frightening position. I remember I was in a ride called "Hard Rock" and I felt like I betrayed amusement rides when I feared for my life by refusing to let go of the restraint. I find those kinds of experiences as fun, but only because I subconsciously know I'm safe.
