The definition of a Roller coaster
rcjp replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What about water coasters? At which point are they considered "coasters"? I assume rides like poséidon at Europa Park are coasters but then I don't really consider atlantica supersplash one. Anyone has a clear definition on this area? -
Not the rough part, obviously, but if it isn't the manufacturer that decides how intense a ride will be, it's the park. Given that quite a few recent B&M built in China have been proving to be more intense than in other places I wouldn't think that it is B&M who assumes they like more intense rides and so that's what they do, so it is clear that the parks do have a big influence on that area.

Slipping on GIANT HORSE turd and falling face first into a cow patty, a little in the mouth to go (containing some horrible disease), in front of everyone! Whats worse than taking intimidator 305 and putting the seats upside down, so that you get severe negative Gs?

^Maybe that person had deep knowledge of Chinese knock-off manufacturing -

^Yeah I don't really see what's the point. The seats themselves seem pretty supporting (laterally) but then I've never tried those. -

You're right. Given that the voters are mostly coaster enthusiasts I doubt the accident would have an influence so I too don't really why this is happening. -
B&M Wing Rider Coasters - Love or Hate?

^First drop for me too but I also liked the immelmann. -
iSpeed has that issue too? I think Intamin made some improvement on the OTSR's after Maverick. Does i305 need this kind of brace as well? I think Ispeed's restraints are exactly the same as maverick, it doesn't seem to have so many "neck chopping" moments, though.

^^I like how the "sometimes" gives the idea that a coaster normally runs below 80 but, occasionally, decides to do 80. -
B&M Wing Rider Coasters - Love or Hate?
rcjp replied to jfruge's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Gatekeeper's was fun, but nothing very special, it didn't fee as "head/foot choppy" as I thought it would. -
It really isn't B&M's fault. The park tells them what they want, and B&M produces it. The park has to give the final approval of the design. I know, that's the thing. I don't like to see B&M doing these kind of rides when I know they can do better. What I meant about CP was that, knowing that they decide how intense a ride will be, I think they exaggerated and went more forceless than desirable as even some non coaster enthusiasts say it is too tame.

Are you kidding? No coasters, obviously. What's worse than stepping on dog poop?

Airtime or Forcefulness?
rcjp replied to tarheel1231's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have you ridden Nitro though? I feel Nitro is an exception just because it has super solid tummy-tickling airtime over every hill, and generally avoids that "trimmed" feeling. If it's possible for you to enjoy B&M hypers, you'll enjoy that one. Nitro is a great ride. I found it significantly better than shambhala for the reasons you stated, plus the awesome ending with those 3 small hills. (and also the forceful helix) -
Great!!

Justin Bieber. Can anyone come up with something worse than that?

Me too. I love how compact this park is, with al the rides squeezed into such a small area. -

Talon is a great coaster, but I actually think Hydra is getting really rough for a B&M. I still ride it multiple times whenever I go to the park but this ride isn't really up to B&M's standards of smoothness. I'd go so far as to say it's the roughest B&M I've ridden besides the standups. I actually got great rides on Hydra last summer without one bit of headbanging. (although I still like talon more) As to steel force, I genuinely though it was great fun. Because the restraints don't get tight I had a great time, sitting in the front, on those last hills as I would lift every time. It's also smooth and very very re-ridable. -
That sounds like it could work! I did something similar when riding Fahrenheit: my legs were already killing me because of Skyrush so they were super sensitive and on my first ride I made the huge mistake of leaning my back against the seat completely which meant the restrains would be further away from my waist than desirable and it was very unpleasant. On my second ride I did what you did on skyrush an was perfectly fine! Now I wish I had had that idea on skyrush. As to other rides I used to apply this technique during B&M snappy corkscrews which consisted in leaning my head on the side of the restraint that corresponded to the direction of the corkscrew: for example, on BTR (normal version) I would lean my head against the left side of the OTSR (which is the side your head would normally hit) so that, if it is already there, you can't hit it. However, more recently, I haven't had to do anything during corkscrews and don't even remember what was the last time I banged my head against the restraint on a B&M invert.

The problem I have is not how tight it is because unless you hold on to it with all your strengths it will tighten right on the bottom of the first drop. The problem is the lapbar itself: its shape, as the area in contact with your legs is way to small increasing the pressure; and also the part of your thighs where it sits which is way to far from your hips, causing even more pressure and more pain as that part of your legs is more sensitive. Let me try to explain with a drawing: the black lines are your body, the red rectangles are the seats, the green arrow indicates the direction your body is trying to go during an airtime hill and the red arrow represents the force the restraint has to do on your leg depending on where it is placed and, as you can see, the closer it is to the knees, the bigger the force has to be.
