  1. Didn't they make it already and call it "The African Queen"? Here's Katherine Hepburn and Humprey Bogart in "The African Queen" (1951)
  2. Rode it a bazillion times during Expo. My favo(u)rite steel coaster til this year!
  3. That is a really strange sentence. Anyway, this seems like a good match, to me...as long as they can keep Bert away from the Budweiser. They'll probably hae Bert and Ernie behind the bar with the free samples. (Sorry I couldn't find a picture of them wearing tuxes)
  4. While I was waiting for my wife and child by one of the Cast Member areas at DL, I saw a CM with a nametag of JESUS wearing most of a Haunted Mansion costume (no topcoat). Later, when we were riding Haunted Mansion, I SAW JESUS!
  5. Didn't see ANY X trains running August 31. Deja Vu was broken and Psyclone broke down. Tatsu had a fifteen minute wait!
  6. Why don't you pick up a season pass during frightfest in Enchanted Village near Seattle or in SFMW in Vallejo, just north of Oakland? We got a season pass at EV so we could get into SFMW and SFMM during our big California vacation. SFMW was a very nice intermediate park to warm us up for SFMM, plus we were able to catch Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with Giant Dipper and a good Hurricane. Just sayin', if you got a weekend free before the end of October...
  7. Well, my vacation begins Saturday. Unfortunately, we live this far away: Distance: 1236.9 miles Estimated time: 18 hr. 18 min. We should be arriving sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning
  8. I can understand these price structures in a trying to extract as much bucks from the sheeple as possible, but this could be a reason why I've never visited WDW. I have visited DLR, probably because I live on the west coast and it's only 3 days drive. When I go to SoCal, I can stay at Motel 6 or Red Roof, get a City Pass ($179.95 at Costco works out to $30 a day). I can use my Six Flags pass at Magic Mountain, plus we can stop at SFMW on the way down. I only pay $14.95 for my child at Knott's, plus if I look around, there's usually a discount somewhere for us adults to get into Knott's cheaper. So tell me how WDW is a good deal?
  9. The Corkscrew is the original one from Knott's from 1975. It's bumpy as hell, but they were in the process of replacing the restraints last year. The smaller woodie, Tremors, is roughly the same size as the Coaster at the PNE, 85 feet vs 68 feet. Timber Terror is about 100 feet, roughly the size of Ghostrider at Knott's. It can be painful if you happen to be in the wrong seat, but it is freaky FAST! And they have a new drop ride this year. Oh, and I hope you like banjo music...
  10. Well, we went to EV yesterday. I bitched about the comparative prices of the season passes and the guy at the gate said something about the park not being there much longer. We got our passes-(the pictures are truly hideous) and walked in. For a small park, the rides are really far apart on a hill. There's like three active corners- the waterpark by where you enter, some flats and Timberhawk (not too scary, but fast) up a hill to the right (east) around a lake, and a newer corner up to the left (northwest corner) with TimberAxe, Goldrusher (Giant Mouse) and the log/splashboat ride (short, but completely soaks you!) Wild Thing was the ONLY ride CLOSED! I think the highlight was TimberAxe, a Zamperla Hawk. The waterpark was kinda nice to cool off at the end as well. Timberaxe. That's me with the shiny dome with my daughter beside me.
  11. Enchanted Village yesterday: Timberhawk-kinda tame, but fast! Gold Rusher-wild mouse, ouch! Wild Thing-the only ride CLOSED ALL DAY! %^*$%^! Timber Axe-not a coaster, but WHEEE!
  12. Mary just got a new cameraphone! Helloo!
  13. Ok..Portland, you got Oaks in the SE park of town with Looping Thunder, a Pinfari 31 foot looper. Plus the awesome flat "Screamin' Eagle" a KMG Fireball/Afterburner. South of Portland, just south of Salem, you have Thrillville and Enchanted Forest. Between Tacoma and Seattle in Federal Way, there's Enchanted Village/Wild Waves, a Six Flags park. Seattle Center has Fun Forest with a kiddie coaster and Windstorm. East of Seattle is Remlinger Farms with a kiddie coaster. Finally in Vancouver, you have Playland at the PNE with a ACE classic woodie, a Corkscrew , a Wild Mouse, and a Miler Kiddie Coaster. Of course, if you can spare 6 hrs east of Seattle, then 6hrs back, there's always Silverwood, with two GREAT woodies! Enchanted Village Windstorm at Fun Forest
  14. I don't see what everybody's problem with X3 was. I guess I wasn't a true X-men fanboy, so the liberties taken with the characters didn't bother me as much. I thought it flowed better as a movie, the interactions between the characters was much more believable, and the chase betweenn Kitty Pride and Juggernaut was awesome! It was great seeing Vinnie actually bashing through the (break-away) walls. I can't stand shoddy CGI -but that bridge stuff was awesome.... That said, I am looking forward to Superman Returns in IMAX (20 minutes 3-D)
  15. That week is one of my vacation weeks. There is a chance we could be there...
  16. Lewis & Clark-201 years later! Silverwood Calaway Galaxyland (Schwartzkopf death coaster) Oaks Thrillville Enchanted Forest Enchanted Village Pullayup Remlinger Farms Fun Forest (Gayway) Playland at the PNE
  17. Yeah, but there are fences on a freeway. Just consider it this way-when you're at work, you'd like all the safety barriers there-why not when you're at play? Not everybody is aware of every hazard-I think it's best for parks to err on the side of caution.
  18. LOVED it new as Scream Machine at Expo 86
  19. Mine is a picture of a Brown Bear at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. He's behind about 6 inches of Lexan, but I still jumped a bit when he popped up... Here is a more life-size picture
  20. It's like the movies-Parental Guidance Recommended...not required.
  21. How long are you staying? What kind of attractions do you guys want to see...amusement parks, Hollywood/movie stuff, beach...? Are you going to rent a car? (Recommended if you're going to more than one place)
  22. We've only been there once, but I think I should point out Silverwood is only a few hours away from the Canadian border. Canada Day is July 1, which means EVERY Canadian will have Monday July 3 off. Hey, it will be Canada Day!
  23. What an excellent replacement for a tired old Mouse or Hurricane!
  24. Take a look at the satellite pictures right around where you are going-then you can check what they say vs what the road looks like. Also, a good map of the area you are going to (most states have really good maps for free) should get you to the area-where any good business should be able to direct you. Keep the park's phone number handy so you can call if you just can't find the turnoff. Ask. com has a mapsite as well, and did you try Yahoo beta with picture? http://maps.ask.com/maps
  25. There's a history of cancer in my family, so I had my last colonoscopy two Christmas' ago, about the same time the premier of our province got busted for drunk driving. So I guess we got to be assholes on camera at the same time! The premier of British Columbia, booked for driving under the influence and doing 70 in a 35 zone...
