Holiday Park Discussion Thread

^They most likely won't... In Heide-Park the Vekoma SLC Limit has at most times a longer line than the Intamin Accelerator Desert Race... -

Combining Two Ride Concepts
simon8899 replied to Woodie Warrior's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One idea on Hansa-Parks Kärnan website is to put the the coaster train onto a Tower Of Terror like ride-system before it will do its coaster part. I think that would be a cool idea. -
Phantasialand Discussion Thread
simon8899 replied to roeterich's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The increase is quite steep. Topping even EP with €41 or Heide-Park with €42 for a regular day-ticket. And while the theming and atmosphere are great the two other parks have a quite more substantial ride lineup. Lucky I visited Phantasialand last year. -

Nigloland! New Coaster for 2014
simon8899 replied to msep003's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If Nigoland wanted a ride quite similar to an Intamin Mega-Lite from Mack its fine with me. And Mack is just doing what the costumer ordered. I hope there are no grudges from Intamin here as I think it would be very bad for the whole coaster business if the manufacturers start and be able by law to copyright layouts or elements. Imagine Arrow would have copryrighted the corkscrew or Schwarzkopf the vertical loop... -
Not being fluent in the mathmatics but I guess the fastest inversion would be one that pulls the lowest Gs while built the most spread out. A loop by its design pulls way to much Gs as you enter and leave it - thats what made you most likely grey out between loops on the old Thriller were the exit of loop one is the entry for loop two. I guess a large spread-out and well calculated corkscrew, zero-G-roll or inline-twist should be the inversions to traverse at higher speeds.

Great looking park! Hope to visit it soon. Thanks for the TR.

Will be interesting to see how the new system will work out on lower crowd days. Having visited last year this time I was able to get up to 8 Fastpasses a day hopping between parks. Starting at Hollywood Studios then on to Epcot and finishing the day at MK. Even while regular waits were at most rides at about 20-30 minutes - Soarin honorably excluded - one could reduce those to zero with the old system. I hope the system will in the future adapt to the overall attendance and you can during the day book additional FP+ tickets if available - or the system will offer you FP+ tickets for immediate use if slots are still free - likely using a smartphone app. This of course also requires a WLAN coverage inside all parks to cater all non-US visitors who will likely not use expensive roaming for this.

As I often book different airlines - the above mentions are true for the last 1-2 years I do not collect miles. Next to that I guess I have a light form of fear of flying cause I do not really enjoy it and often try to do one way without planes. So far I have made three transatlantic crossings on Queen Mary 2 and try to use trains were ever possible and a travel destination is within one day of travel. Not that I totally avoid flying but only use if no other means of transport is feasible. Resulting of that after a long-haul flight I normally need a day off before hitting the parks as I absolutely cannot sleep or relax on planes. I mostly get myself a book to keep my mind occupied.

I try not to spread my data at too many portals or booking services so I mostly book directly with the airline. Lately I found that Germanwings/Eurowings (for European flights) and British Airways (for long-haul flights) have quite good prices booking from Germany. For inside-US flights I mostly book Delta. For flights of 4+ hours I prefer Economy Premium - were available - or Business as I will not squeeze my 1,95 meter frame into an Economy seat for prolonged periods of time. Booking either 6+ months in advance or less than 3 days in advance will have great deals at most airlines.

Holiday Park Discussion Thread
simon8899 replied to devol4's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think a Viking theme for a log flume fits great. And Holiday Park has one of the best Mack flumes, IMO only surpassed by those at Universal Orlando and the portable Wildwasser 3. -

Garet Visits Hong Kong

Cannot wait to enjoy this great views myself. I for one would not mind the non-existant lines for the rides. Did they require a minimum of riders to do a spin? -

Looks like a very nice and clean park - but those crowds... Do they offer any kind of Fastpass options? On the "Moonfish": I think I saw some of them at the Monterey Bay Aquarium... -
Hong Kong is certainly on my travel list for the next years. Not only for the parks but also for the city itself. Cannot wait to see more from this TR!

Well, a Maurer-Söhne X-Car and a Boomerang as best coasters of a country... At least its better than nothing and most coasters pictured look well maintained, the night photo of the park lit up is looking very good - and there were so nice to put a German flag onto their X-Car... Sadly the security situation prevents western visitors as of now to see these parks - but hopefully this will change some time! -
Thrill rating system
simon8899 replied to johnrose's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Some like speeds, some heights and some others the sensation of falling. So - as others said - an objective thrill rating system is IMO not really possible. -
Russia to build Vekoma GIB in Sochi
simon8899 replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Today I read a piece were the athletes were interviewed about their Olympic Village and most were very impressed by it. The housing is basic but very clean - and mostly with a view of palms and the ocean from the balconies. Plus the venues are reachable by foot - or as offered for each nation for free - by bikes. Also the canteens and buffets offered a wide food selection from international to Russian. A German athelete was quoted with "We have to be careful to not get into a holiday feeling here". Colleagues said that the Press Center also looks amazing, by the looks of it it will later be tranformed into a shopping center. -

Alton Towers Discussion Thread
simon8899 replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I generally dislike most drop towers as its only: Slow ascent, some view, drop. So boring! And compared to this you have quite long waits. The only drop rides I do are Disney's Tower of Terror, but those aren't really droprides. They have a cool theming, a darkride, and an elevator style ride system that gives you cool pops of air while your whole body hangs only by a seatbelt. I hope they add another inversion ride - some rides from Mondial, KMG or Technical Park come to mind.
