Kissimmee Skycoaster
MrSum1_55 replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode this thing once, and this is by far the scariest ride I have ridden. And I have ridden X Scream on the Stratosphere in the front row. I will be in Florida next week, and if I were riding this again, I would be a lot more nervous to ride this than Falcons Fury. If the price was not so disgusting, I would do this every time I am in Florida. For now, I would say it is the type of ride everyone should experience once. -
^I was also at the park yesterday. I would say that TC was dueling at about the same rate it was last summer, (which is rarely). Due to three train ops, it is still usually one of their most efficient rides. I would say that operations were pretty good today, with X2, Tatsu cycling trains pretty consistently. However, I could notice the effect of the cold weather on the coasters. I only rode three coasters all day (Tatsu once, X2 once, and TC five times), and all three of these seemed to be running considerably slower than normal. I found that TC's inversions actually flowed better at a low speed, but of course I want the rest of the ride to be as fast as possible. It is still an awesome coaster, but it lacked that OMFG airtime that I have been used to getting in the summer months.

Least Favorite Intamin?
MrSum1_55 replied to Themonerd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would say Green Lantern or Revolution, but both of these are a result of modifications the park made. (And one of them is getting fixed as we speak). Other than that, I have yet to ride an Intamin that I dislike. They may have issues with reliability, but Intamin can make a damn good ride experience. That being said, my best answers are Possessed and Kingda Ka. Possessed is for that awful holding brake. (I honestly felt like I would never be able to have kids after that) and Kingda Ka for its awful rattle. (For whatever reason, TTD is totally fine, but KK gave me a bad headache). Neither of these are 'bad' rides, but their flaws do cause me to say that they are my least favorite designs from the best company. -
Least Favorite B&M?
MrSum1_55 replied to thecoasterdude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Vortex (CGA). I think this wins the thread. An honorable mention goes out to Scream at SFMM. I have no idea how a new-ish B&M turned out as rough as this one. -
I think that a better title for this thread would be "most forceless coaster relative to its size/type" I agree that Fahrenheit is the most forceless of the "extreme" Intamin coasters. Thankfully, the same park has two very forceful Intamin coasters to satisfy that need. Cheetah Hunt is really forceless as well. I have no clue what people were talking about when they called this the "California Screamin on Steroids." It honestly felt like the tamed down version of California Screamin. The B&M hypers could all pretty much be called "forceless," but I think Intimidator at Carowinds takes the cake for the least forceful in the US. Tatsu, Manta, and Superman are all pretty forceless outside the pretzel loops. It seems like every B&M flyer, besides Sky Scrapper, has one intense moment, then a forceless rest of the ride. Silver Bullet and Talon are both pretty forceless for most of the ride (though both of these do have pretty intense endings). I have heard forceless reviews of every B&M wing coaster. The only one I have ridden myself is Wild Eagle, and this is considered to be the best one. If that is true, then I can confirm that the others are pretty forceless. But also, I would give the "forceless park award" to Dorney Park. They have a lineup that should look impressive, featuring an invert, impulse coaster, floorless, classic wood coaster, and hyper coaster. Yet, pretty much all of these are some of the least forceful examples of their type. (Even Thunderhawk has those stupid trims). With such an impressive-sounding lineup, I was surprised to see that their most forceful ride was the used Vekoma shuttle coaster. So basically: B&M, all of the mid-90's Morgan hypers, and a couple of abnormal Intamins

Smoothest Coaster You've Ridden?
MrSum1_55 replied to TheDark8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In this thread, I am seeing many B&M's, RMC's, Intamins, new age Premiers. I think it is more impressive to give a shout out to a very smooth coaster from a normally bad company. And for me, that is Firehawk at Kings Island. I seriously thought I was going to hate this coaster, but I found it to be as smooth as I would expect from a B&M. No Vekoma has ever surprised me like that before. -
A good wood coaster should me plenty of forces and feel out-of-control. Any wood coaster, no matter what age, can accomplish this. This is why Phoenix and El Toro are amazing. If anything, I would say that GCI's are missing something. They incorporate plenty of floater air and moderate strength pops of air, but almost never any true ejector air. I feel like if GCI started incorporating a couple ejector hills into each of their designs, this could really make the difference between a good wood coaster and a great wood coaster.

Which coasters are the "most fun" to ride?
MrSum1_55 replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you define 'fun' as basically the best non-extreme coaster to ride, than my vote goes to Manta at SWSD. This coaster is pretty much the "jack of all trades" when it comes to anything you could ever want in a roller coaster. It has plenty of airtime, G-forces, interaction with the paths/ queue, and has great theming in the launch preshow. The fifty-second dispatches are an added plus. It is perfectly comfortable and smooth. The only major change I would really make to this ride would be to add some theming in the second half, and maybe make a better ending. -
^Right. I think it is going too far for someone to say that they have 'no sympathy' for the kid. Twelve-year-olds do stupid things, and a death is a death. No matter how stupid it is, I am still sad to hear that someone died. However, I also know that the family is handling it poorly, and ops with no control of the situation will have their lives dragged into this because of someone's bad decision. And of course, the media will create some storm making rides in general seem unsafe.

That One Ride You Just Can't Enjoy...
MrSum1_55 replied to HAZE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Oddly enough, I actually do enjoy the Zamperla versions of these rides. The restraints on these suck too, but compared to the Intamin ones they are far more enjoyable. I do not know why, but the Larson loops have the tendency to make me sick, more so than any other ride that makes these motions. -
You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....
MrSum1_55 replied to PCW_Nut's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^My college does not offer them, but a famous roller coaster engineer did graduate from it! As a result, my roommate is always wondering what I'm doing with all these coat hangers... -
That One Ride You Just Can't Enjoy...
MrSum1_55 replied to HAZE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yup. This wins the thread for me. Those restraints are similar to the OTSR, lapbar combo on Revolution, except they actually crush you constantly like a lot of restraints on older flat rides do. They are basically the worst things ever. These rides might be fun if they had more comfortable restraints. But as those looping ships are now, I would rather ride an SLC or New York New York four times than ride one of those once. -
El Toro-The ending. This coaster is almost perfect, but the ending simply seemed to lack the kick that the rest of the ride has. Once the amazing ex-Rolling Thunder hill is over, the coaster quickly beings to lose steam up until the forceless final two hills. I would replace the ending with a couple more small ejector hills, not this wired trick track thing. Texas Giant-Add an ejector hill in that straight section toward the end. Other than that, this coaster has a perfect layout. Jack Rabbit-Take the airtime on the double down, and add several more hills like that. This would easily be a top ten, or even top five, coaster if that were the case Twisted Colossus-Actually duel the damn thing I305: Remove the trim brake Hollywood RRR: Turn off the brake zones California Screamin: See above Every Giga coaster: Build a mega lite underneath it
-
I second kiddie woodies. My friends and I decided to credit whore Woodstock Express at Carowinds. There was a full train, and I sat in the back row. The result was crazy ejector air on the first two drops. Seriously, I was ejected all the way into the buzzbar, and I actually felt like I had to hold on! It reminded me more of Knoebels Phoenix than anything. We rode it again.

Whats your favorite Vekoma?
MrSum1_55 replied to Neogreeneyez's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would say Firehawk, as many others have. I was dreading it before riding, thinking I was going to hate it with all the hate the Vekoma flyers get. It was completely smooth, and felt more like a B&M. And, I also liked the layout enough for me to put it right up there with Manta and Tatsu. Nighthawk is not nearly as smooth as Firehawk, but it is still a pretty good ride. GIB's are fairly enjoyable as well. I never understood how GIB's and Flying Dutchmans got so many complaints for being bad rides, but rarely does anyone complain about Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. RNRC is not a bad coaster, but I actually found it to be far rougher than SFMM's Deja Vu and Firehawk. (Though RNRC is probably my favorite Vekoma with inversions that is not a GIB or Flying Dutchman). -
New theme park for Turkey, Ankapark.
MrSum1_55 replied to _koppen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I never realized that this park was going to have 14 coasters! However, most of them are crappy Chinese knockoffs, Zamperla coasters, or bad carnival designs. however, the two Intamin coasters they do have appear to be of good quality. It might make a good side trip from Istanbul to go here, ride two good coasters, then do a lot of credit whoring. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
MrSum1_55 replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I would make that every Big Thunder Mountain in the United States. The one in Japan also has a different ending. This one also looks much better than the ones in the us, but still not nearly as good as the Paris version. -
I have yet to do a bungee jump, but I do like SkyCoasters (especially the one in Kissimmee). However, the one slingshot I have ridden was the one at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. Thing was awful. It had the absolute worst headbanging I had ever encountered, and it made that ultra-rough coaster down south feel like a B&M. I do not not know who manufactured this one, but some of the other ones I have seen like the one at SFMM do look A LOT smoother. I have never ridden any of the smooth-looking ones, though.

YES!!! The next installment of my favorite game series of all time comes out on my birthday!! So it better be good. And, I think it will be, as the coaster construction menu actually seems to remind me more of No Limits 2 than previous RCT games. This might be the true installment we all waited for.

I guess it might be fun to try one of these once or twice, but nothing truly beats the actual experience of sitting on a roller coaster and watching it go through a real track, instead of only seeing GCI cartoons. Nay, I say.

Photo TR: ThrillCoaster Tours 2015
MrSum1_55 replied to ImNotOneOfYou's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ThrillCoaster tours is basically something like what TPR does for teens under 18. It is a road trip tour camp that travels around to different theme parks. I know of it because I actually did it when I was younger, before I aged out of it. -
Your Dream Lineup
MrSum1_55 replied to WonderlandFan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wood coasters: 1. El Toro (only with a modified ending that actually provides good airtime on the final hills) 2. Any top-tier RMC 3. Phoenix 4. A good wood coaster from the 1930's or earlier Steel coasters: 1. An Intamin Mega-Lite 2. An Intamin Blitz 3. I305 4. A Mack hyper with lots of ejector air (I would really love to see them build a hyper) 5. A coaster with the same layout as Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, except made by Mack and without any usage of the MCBR's. Less intense coasters: 1. California Screamin 2. Thunder Mountain (Paris version) 3. Space Mountain (Orlando version layout, but with the effects and lighting of the newer versions) 4. A smaller GCI like White Lightning Kiddie coasters: 1. A small Gravity Group wood coaster like Roar-a-Saurus 2. Something like Dragon at Legoland 3. A Vekoma junior invert (with the newer restraints, of course) That puts my coaster count at 12. Fewer than some parks out there, but it would be the best lineup in the world if it existed.
