  1. I hate that this will probably lead to a demand for the state to regulate amusement parks. Ironically, I've never felt more unsafe than at Mount Olympus which is a state-inspected park. Of course this is tragic, and my stomach is sick when I try to imagine being in that family's shoes. But blaming the park for your child's misbehavior is ridiculous. I have no doubt a full investigation will reveal that the ride was being operated safely. Hopefully the press will have the decency to cover that ruling with equal time.
  2. I doubt it. I would assume the sound was more of an issue when they were trying to do music shows there. It shouldn't affect a stunt show as much as far as I know.
  3. I'm glad someone made a thread about this because I always worry this will happen to me at some point haha. I guess I'm just hoping that if I keep riding things on a regular basis as I age, it will at least delay things and prevent the sudden surprise when I take my kids to the parks someday.
  4. Valleyfair: -Removing the flume instead of the Imax in 2009 for the wave pool -Neglecting the thrill-seekers since 2007 (Debatable) -Modifying lots of formerly good rides (Trimming Highroller to death, giving up on the canopy and backwards operation on supercat, seat divider and individual belts on Highroller, trimming Mad Mouse to death starting in 2015, not fixing Ripcord's winch so that it goes all the way up again, moving Autos from its original tree-covered location, switching Tilt-a-whirl to automatic and removing the operator's ability to control the speed, Eliminating some of the waterfalls on Thunder Canyon, etc.) Of course during these times they've also made what I find to be very good decisions. -Modernizing and expanding the kids area (Planet Snoopy, 2011) -Revitalizing the former Challenge Park area, making it feel less like a parking lot and more like a park (Route 76, 2014) -Bringing the waterpark up to date over time (Breaker's Bay, 2009/H2OMG and Barefoot Beach, 2015) -Improving season pass benefits and options, as well as for general ticket holders (all day/all season dining plans, passholder early entry, season pass discounts, etc) Hopefully over time they will be able to improve the elements that have been neglected in the past few years, emerging as a much more well-rounded park. They're going to need a solid new coaster eventually but only time will tell when that is, and if they waited too long or not. I also really think the flume has to come back. It's a staple that guests will always expect to find in a moderate-sized park.
  5. First of all, the Superman: Ultimate Flight Clones are nowhere near underrated. Most underwhelming, maybe I would say out of what you listed, Manta (SWSD) wins, because a lot of people expect it to be something it isn't. People look at Orlando's Manta, and then feel ripped off from the start because San Diego got a family coaster instead of something more intimidating. I think a lot of parks are missing something like San Diego's manta. Pretty much everyone has a great time on it, young or old.
  6. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can have a brake segment react differently on different passes (stopping one time, letting it through the next, stopping again, sending it in a different direction). With regard to the launches, you aren't able to set specific speeds for each pass. You have to set the launch track to the maximum speed you want it to reach, and play around with the acceleration/deceleration rates & number of passes until you get the performance you want. It can be a challenge.
  7. Honestly my biggest issue is that the physics seem ridiculous on the coasters, but I'm also judging that off the whack designs people are making in these previews.
  8. Thanks for making me laugh out loud in starbucks. You win the thread!
  9. It's the thing from Iaapa, judging from the manufacturer.
  10. They are running their batman clone backwards, not their SLC. Yes, they have both. Oh thank goodness. Well in that case I'll just be formulaic and complain about whatever park is getting a Larson Looper.
  11. I was going to say Soarin' over Jimmy Fallon but then realized that it's not a 2016 attraction. I guess I'd have to go with LaRonde running an SLC backwards. That just sounds unpleasant.
  12. All I think of when I look at boardwalk is how it used to look ratchet with Perilous Plunge and its 8-minute dispatches, and now it's a nicely themed area with a popular family coaster, a resurrected scrambler, and flying scooters which people of all ages can appreciate.
  13. As far as I know, almost every park considers "leaving and attempting to re-enter at the same point" line jumping. The challenge is in enforcement, because they don't want to staff "line police", and then you're basically relying on one guest's claims vs. another's.
  14. Plenty of parks do this every year....
  15. Batman: The Ride clones. I like intense rides, but I'm just not a fan of outrageous positive g's and feeling like your feet are going to explode. Ironically, I loved it when it was running backwards because it didn't do that to me.
  16. I actually love Vekoma Boomerangs, but I will proceed to throw tomatoes at you because I can't say enough about how awful Titan is.
  17. The sword swallower was in Elvira's show last year at Knott's. He was great!
  18. No but if you're lucky you might get given a TV remote so it feels like your on a real couch! "Couch Potato: The Ride." Why would we want a ride themed to Jeff Johnson? I don't get it. I tried to make a TPR joke and failed. Gotta sharpen my skills... Jeff Johnson is ancient, not lazy.
  19. I actually operated Supreme Scream at Knotts for awhile, which is nearly identical to Power Tower (same manufacturer, main difference being that all three towers are turbo drops instead of having a shot tower). I really enjoyed, it. It wasn't down very often, and guests rarely got sick on it. Like Meghna said about PT, you don't really get bored, and controls is nice. I personally enjoyed grouping for supreme, because unlike Power Tower, you have one grouper for all 3 towers, which can be more of a challenge to keep up with. If you like to work hard and enjoy working with guests, I'd recommend it.
  20. Another thing to note about the Knott's mazes - They also manage to cover lots of traditional themes within the unique maze lineup. For example, Paranormal Inc. combines ghosts/hauntings with the hospital/asylum theme. Trick or Treat, while centered on the Green Witch, satisfies the need for a classic "haunted house" environment (entrance, library/office, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, attic).
  21. Well, yeah. It's old and therefore was built using old design techniques. Not sure what the person was trying to say, but it's definitely one of two coasters at that park that nobody - even with a healthy spine - should ride.
  22. I would assume it will be open regularly going forward.
  23. This is a pretty ballsy move. People are going to scream bloody murder over this, but I'm glad they're trying to do something to deal with the abusers.
  24. I don't know. I just caught the tail end of it. I'll be back Friday night to see it again though, so we'll see.
