What's the worst station you've been in
Geauga Dog replied to tribar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Put me in on the Riddler's Revenge bandwagon. I was there in 2001 and rode it at night just as California was experiencing rolling blackouts. It was dark in there and obscenely crowded. It was my one and only ride on it (which I regret as it is a fantastic stand-up and I would have liked to have ridden it again). SFMM"s Viper is bad too. The queue area under the station is a mess and confusing when its full. Dragster is bad when they let too many people on the platform. Can't even tell where the lines for each individual queue end. SFOG's Batman station was steaming hot last June. Felt bad for the employees who had to work there and it was just as bad as we sat on the brake run waiting for the next train to dispatch. -

I just looked at my photos of Dare Devil Dive and the Gerstlauer track does not look like the track in the renderings. I'll go with Team Maurer on this one. Other than that this layout is amazing. -
Longest I've waited was 4 hours for Dragster on opening day 2003. They only had three trains running with off and on down time thrown in. I'd never wait that long again unless I was at a park I knew I wouldn't be getting back to in a long time. That was the only ride I rode that day but I had a season pass at the time so it was no big deal that I didn't ride anything else.

Looking back and reading the past few pages I wish I knew there was a "magic seat" before I went down to SFOG last June. I ended up sitting towards the front and regretted my decision to ride the whole time I was on it. The train just bounced the whole ride. While the ride looks great in its location, especially from the top of Acrophobia, it was the worst coaster on my trip to the South. I'm glad to hear that they are investing to make the ride better.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I'm still going with wing coaster but based on history Cedar Point will make it the world's tallest and fastest or with the most inversions for its ride type. -

Funny you should mention those rides. Even though I've been to Kings Island many times there are some visits where I forget Adventure Express is there despite passing the entrance sign many times during my visit. The worst offender would White Water Canyon. Even though I like the seclusion in the woods it's a heck of a walk to get to. However I also think that in some cases like Adventure Express and The Beast those rides wouldn't be the good rides they are in any other location because of the terrain they were built on. -

I still have the 1996 Getaway Guide heralding the new Outer Limits: Flight of Fear and it's similar with the same photos but less rambling. I agree that Days of Thunder has the worst location for a theme park attraction. -
Thanks so much for the photos. This ride greatly fascinated me as a kid in how it looked so fragile with the minimal supports, the lattice track, and the sleek looking trains. I have yet to do a tour of Texas to ride Shock Wave. I can imagine how great it is just by my rides on its sister Mindbender at SFOG this year. BTW the photo of NTAG's first drop is sweet.

If this is indeed what's coming to Darien Lake then I like it even though two of the three attractions are rides I won't be able to ride. Based on the possibilities and rumors if they are true: Putting these attractions by Scrambler makes sense since you have the Brain Teaser kiddie coaster right there and even though Grizzly Run is in the same area the creation of a second kids/family area would make sense considering that Adventureland kid's area is a bit small and cramped. Could the possible removal of Raging Seas make way for a relocated Scrambler and is Ranger on its way out? I can't see them relocating that ride.

I've seen Marineland billboards while on my way to Martin's Fantasy Island, which I would consider the closest competitor to Darien Lake. While not in the same league as Darien, Martin's could really be great competition if they continue to add new attractions like they have been doing and working to improve the park.

Does anyone know what those pieces sticking up out of the box beam are and what they are for? -

Thanks for the photos. Might have been a nasty day for photos but these turned out great. -

Or the wheel is the web being spun. The first thing that came to mind was Spin Spider at TusenFryd. http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/photo.php?pageid=72&linkid=6180 -

Another ride to look forward to next year. I love Delirium and maXair so it will be great to see how the Zamperla version of the giant frisbee compares to the Huss models. The best part of Pittfall was being on the Thunderbolt side as it felt like you were much higher than you really were. Now to swing over the valley below at 120 degrees will be really interesting next year. -

I also like the lattice style supports on the older Arrows as well as on Schwarzkopf's Revolution and SooperDooperLooper. That Cedar Point guide takes me back as well. With ten coasters in '92 the park looks primitive compared to what it's become today. -
Your Park "To Do List"
Geauga Dog replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I highly agree with this, especially the grafitti part. It's bad enough they've incorporated the "No Single Riders" rule on Giant Wheel but the condition of the cars and the massive amounts of grafitti really makes the ride look bad. This is the park's most iconic ride and it shouldn't look the way it does. -

I also agree that it is odd. Usually a master plan and schematic drawings should have already been developed in order to sell the idea to "inverstors". Like most of you I don't expect this to break ground. -
2011.. What was your highlight?
Geauga Dog replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've only had two highlights. Getting my 200th credit by riding Mindbender at SFOG and finally getting to ride Afterburn at Carowinds, which was on my list of must-ride coasters for a long time.
