  1. Shane, thank you so much for reopening the door to your absolutely amazing closet. I envy your knowledge and accumulation of great material. After reading through the Aero World plans it seems it was more focused on being a living, breathing museum with a few rides thrown in more than being an actual theme park. I like the concept as it is/was very original. I wonder what it would have been like today if it was built.
  2. Love the yodeling at the beginning of the teaser. Just an idea but what if the cars were able to drift on the turns like the car does to avoid the obstacles like in the teaser? I can see lightning playing a part in the indoor section of the ride.
  3. Looking at the impressive lineup SFMM already has there are only two coasters I think would fit in nicely - a giga and a dive machine. A wing coaster would be like saying X2 and Scream had a love child except the seats don't spin.
  4. That is a bummer that Pittfall is leaving as it is one of my favorite drop towers. Gonna miss those views facing the Thunderbolt and river from on top as well as seeing it dominate the skyline from the Rankin Bridge. Of course that ride never ran at full capacity. There would always be at least one side not working every time I went to Kennywood.
  5. Something does seem fishy about the abrupt closing and then the deletion of the FB page. I haven't been to IB yet but from what I can get from photos and trip reports it's got a quirky feel to the park. If anyone knows a park well its the employees and it's sad that management doesn't seem to care, at least that 's what I got out of the articles. That spells doom right from the get go.
  6. ^^That would make sense and an idea I would support. It would give them the space to expand and retheme it into a proper Looney Tunes area since National Park is gone. A tower ride would look pretty cool over on that side of the park, too.
  7. I didn't see a lot of people lining up to pay for a ticket in the four times I've been to KI this year but that doesn't mean there weren't a lot of people walking through the attraction. I was tempted once to see it but since they have some dinos displayed in the park (one in front of the fountains, at the entrance by Windseeker, and one by the Planet Snoopy entrance across from Chick-Fil-A) I figured that was all I needed to see - and it was free.
  8. I hope they don't develop that side of Kings Dominion. One of the mystiques, if that's the right term to use, is that other than the big marquee sign you can't see it from I-95.
  9. Considering the themeing in New France it would be hard to re-theme it as something else without doing a total makeover. The remake of Hastings into Killarney seemed to result in minimal change to building exteriors. Spain has been long rumored to be the next country added to the park but I wonder if that will ever happen.
  10. I was at the Point Saturday after not being there for a few years and Maverick still impresses the heck out of me. It's the best ride in the park. The only part that I think is rough or headbangy are the two Stengel dives at the end. Other than that it's CP's perfect coaster.
  11. These wing coasters are becoming a pain. First there's the ongoing "first in America" bragging rights and now this. Who cares if X-Flight has the same beginning inversion as Swarm. It's as if Thorpe is acting like a spoiled brat. It would be different if X-Flight was on the same continent.
  12. Cedar Fair, not learning from what Six Flags did when they were buying all those parks, purchasing the Paramount chain. Sure they've cleaned up the parks and added some needed attractions (the 3 Beemers) but it put them in a serious debt position just like SF. It also sucked for us Ohioans as it gave CF a monopoly here and KI losing some of its atmosphere.
  13. I would like to see more LSM blitz rides like Maverick. After riding it today for the first time in several years it still kicks ass.
  14. Adventure Express is one of the better mine trains. It's a bit jerky in parts but it's fun. It's also one of the few rides that uses its terrain to its advantage. You couldn't relocate it to another park.
  15. Actually Great Adventure's freefall was called Stuntman's Freefall. Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall was orignally SFGAm's Edge that was sold to Rocky Point in Rhode Island and then sold to Premier Parks at auction when that park closed and moved to Geauga Lake in 1997. It was demolished in January 2006. Mr. Hyde was problematic as it suffered a lot of downtime. What I'll always remember of the ride is that it sounded like it was breathing on life support. When operating, the roughest part was when the car came to a stop at the end of the runout and transferred to the lower track. BTW, Wildcatter was the name of the freefall at Six Flags Over Texas. Stuntman's Freefall SFGAdv taken in 2005 Geauga Lake circa 2005 and how Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall fit in at the front of the park.
  16. I just researched Kings Island's history and they certainly haven't had a history of marking big anniversary years with big additions. 1982 (10th year) - Timberwolf Amphitheater opens, one side of Racer is turned backwards, Viking Fury opens, and several additions are to made to Hanna Barbera Land. 1992 (20th year) - Phantom Theater opens 2002 (30th year) - Tomb Raider opens I knew it would be a matter of time before KI gets its much needed larger wave pool. At this point this is a good move by Cedar Fair (did I just say that?) and it's also good to know that there will no longer be Paul Hogan's voice saying "Welcome to the Awesome Aussie Twister" while waiting on the train.
  17. Just when you thought SFMM had dropped the "Extreme Park" moniker along comes Lex Luthor. Geez, I don't have any issues with height but this is almost pushing my limits but I wouldn't hesitate to ride it. I'm sure night rides are going to be awesome. Should have been called Bizarro as it will be bizarre freefalling from 400 feet up but this looks great and I agree, California has stolen the show for 2012. A bit off topic but IIRC wasn't Thrill Shot supposed to have been removed from SFMM?
  18. WOW! Six Flags has really stepped up the thrills this year and even though this was pretty much what we expected this to be I am very excited to finally have a wing coaster close to home. SFGAm is my favorite park in the chain and they really deserved this ride after the past few additions were lackluster. So glad I'm about six hours from Gurnee.
  19. I just got my first look at this new ride - and my eyes bugged out at the insane design of this ride. It looks like it came right out of RollerCoaster Tycoon. This was probably the best kept secret of the Six Flags teasers as no one could have predicted something like this and at the park it's going to be located in. I'm a bit bummed that they went with a superhero theme given the theme of the actual park. Poison Ivy could have been a good name for it. Having ridden Sky Rocket there should be no concern over the restraints. They will be fine when traversing the in-line twist at the top. Congrats, SFDK, on your new ride. It looks amazing!
  20. I'm sure this story has already been told on Al-Jazeer TV across the pond, angering Muslims over there.
  21. Thanks for the report. I went to Lagoon in '93 and the park has sure built up the ride arsenal since then. It's looking great.
  22. And Dollywood will be first - they seem to be well ahead of SFGAm in site prep and they already have track on site. ^It's a stretch but Raging Bull was the first hypertwister.
  23. I'm a bit surprised as how these have taken off like they have, especially since Intamin had the non-rotating seat concept for a longer time and only one was built. I'm just glad that SFGAm is finally getting a big ride for a change.
  24. I've had an average year. Waldameer Kennywood Martin's Fantasy Island Darien Lake Carowinds Six Flags Over Georgia Kings Island
