  1. I had an informal chat with the gentlemen in charge of HOS (whose name escapes me at the moment) during BGT Bash last year, and he mentioned that Death Row Vengeance had run its course (that is, the space inside the building was beat to death). I was quite impressed with HOS last year--it was more fun than Halloween Horror Night at Universal.
  2. ^You might try looking in the actual Deep South Bash thread to get an idea of who may be coming to the event. Just a suggestion.
  3. I have yet to try the boat ride--need to do that the next time I'm there.
  4. ^Yeah, it'll be kind of nasty there. One side of the park has very, very little shade. Keep yourself hydrated, and duck into the pizza joint in the Grove to enjoy some air conditioning.
  5. I too have a weakness for Jack-in-the-Box tacos. I think it's because they actually fry up a corn tortilla, rather than using taco shells.
  6. ^You don't like the idea of a "huge and incredible" kiddie land? I'm sure Liseberg wlll do a first-class job on it.
  7. ^I'll probably see it. I'm just not "enthusiastic" about it. I feel the same about The Dark Knight Rises, which will, no doubt, lead to yet another "reboot" of Batman.
  8. I guess just call them "over the shoulder lapbars"?
  9. ^Hey--they really do look like noodles. Now that you ruined the surprise .... Some of the fun of drop towers is that you don't know when the drop is coming. Having it drop on "forever" takes the anticipation out of it. I wouldn't mind if it stopped working after the first year. I felt the same way about the silly vibrating seats on Mach Tower at Busch Gardens Williamsburg--the ride is better without that effect "advertising" the drop. Looking forward to checking out Drop of Doom some day. I sort of disagree with that, if the effect is done correctly. For example, on TOT at DCA (yes, I know it's Bad Tower), the elevator shakes violently before its final drop into the station, and I've always found that it made the last drop a little more exciting/intense. But hey, I guess I'll have to check out the ride myself though. I'll probably be at SFMM in August to ride it. Oh, I agree that a well-placed effect can enhance a drop ride (nobody does this better than Disney with the Towers of Terror). It just was seemed kind of silly on Mach Tower, although the Luthor spiel sounds OK for Drop of Doom.

  11. ^The Togo standups in some of the Japanese parks are actually good rides.
  12. Oh, to be in Italy . . .
  13. ^I think location was the the park's biggest issue. Access from the beach area was poor, and people go to Myrtle Beach for just that--the beach. Being closer to the waterfront would've helped (along with more realistic operating hours and admission prices).
  14. ^Only in my little universe . . . sigh! Actually, I think this has the potential to be the hot new ride of 2013.
  15. What does a Stengel dive have to do with the wordl's largest kettle corn stand, which is what they're really building at SDC?
  16. Or exapnd on its current image. But I kid the Motor City.
  17. I have to go with Eejanika at Fuji Q in 2007. Roughly three-and-a-half hours to ride a simulator of what it's like to be rolled down a hill in a trash can. But I hear the ride has been improved somewhat since then.
  18. This is turning into the coaster-enthusiast version of "Tastes great! Less filling!"
  19. But does "butter smooth" necessarily equal "exciting"?
  20. This video is just more proof that Europa is amazing.
  21. So, how would this be different from a regular evening in Detroit?
  22. Interesting! Indeed.
  23. Glenwood Caverns does look like it's worth a visit--and it would be hard to top the background for that roller coaster.
