  1. ^Yep. The old Nut Tree in Vacaville, California, is a good example. When I was a kid, it was a great "destination" restaurant with a cool toy store and gift shop, private airstrip, and beautiful gardens (complete with a little train that ran from the toy store to the airstrip and back). Then the original owners died, leaving a fragmented family that wasn't interested in running a restaurant and tourist attraction. The result? Yet another generic shopping center. Ugh! (Used to love the old Nut Tree's "Turkey Tamale" and "Mini-Hamburgers.")
  2. I find it interesting that this discussion is continuing considering that Six Flags has already said they aren't investing in this project.
  3. ^And sometimes, with a family involved, it can get even crazier.
  4. I hope this comes to pass. Colossus as it stands now is just kind of boring.
  5. ^I think rejecting the "reality show" idea was wise--even though it's the one such show I probably would've watched for an entire season.
  6. ^I think you'll find that most organizations have some weird directives that make no sense.
  7. Hmm--we already have a topic dedicated to Favorite Dark Rides (aka, "Ghost Trains"). I recommend looking there.
  8. It was, indeed, the King of the Kiddie Coasters. ^And in answer to your question . . .
  9. Kosmo's Kurves is a decent replacement, but it lacks the neck-snapping action of High-Speed Thrill Coaster.
  10. Indeed. I guess that's why you shouldn't have a Zorb course anywhere near a cliff.
  11. ^^They need to plant an Octopus's Garden to go with this Yellow Submarine.
  12. ^ My guess is that his getting stuck in the tree had something to do with the tequila.
  13. It's nice to see the progress they've made all in one series of photos. Thanks, Larry.
  14. I think that Twitter, Facebook, You Tube have taken a lot of "business" from the coaster and theme-park fansites. I don't think enthusiasm has waned about coasters--there are just more venues to talk about them available. Besides, I hardly think there's a "lack of innovation" in the U.S.--a lot of interesting new atrractions are bing built (for example, Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City and the new Antarctic pavilon at SeaWorld in Orlando). TPR keeps going because it has a wider focus than coasters or individual parks.
  15. ^&^^Maybe he was displaced from the basement and had to move upstairs.
  16. It is a bit like "Lego King Curious George Does S&M."
  17. Er, OK. I'm pretty sure this guy did violate a few laws by swimming out to and climbing on a partially submerged, probably unstable structure.
  18. The ejector air in the backseat of Jack Rabbit is pretty insane. I ranked it 34th overall.
  19. Same--I wouldn't be surprised if others have done it.
  20. But they have their own song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am072uGCU8A
  21. ^Bullet was a lot of fun, if a bit shaky in some parts. The initial launch and airtime over the first hill are insane. Great pictures, Hanno--the escape artist turned out to be a pretty good guy, too.
  22. Sarkanniemi's Volare is the only one I've ever ridden, and I agree with Larry's assessment.
  23. KT made a good choice for her top wooden coaster.
  24. Simple really... Liseberg >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SFMM Are you sure you used enough >s there?
