I got a fortune cookie and it said, "You constantly struggle for self improvement. And it shows." WTF?? Aren't they supposed to encourage you, not enrage? -

Only one person left a review, so don't worry. If 4 or more give it about the same score then it's probably best to go by them and the more that review makes the score that much more accurate. -
Butterflies in the alps
mightbeawannabe replied to superman2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree that you have found the best themed Butterfly! Now it's time for the best themed Nautic-Jet... Who manufactures them anyway? -
What do you mean, do so many things? I'm only a trumpeter and on the quizbowl team. It IS impossible to do it all here. You must carefully decide what you want to do. I don't (never [ever {will Never}]) do sports or hunting as I find them extremely pointless. Some do attempt to do as many as possible, but most times they get hit the hardest. But wouldn't some rural places in the UK be similar to the US in general? EDIT: I am never going to drop out of school. I will probably be in college until I am old and gray. Bachelor's, Master's, Specialist's, and hopefully eventually Doctorate.

Swim in their parents pool and relax in their hot tub in the morning, at least that's what I do because we live in literally the boondocks. Out here, if you want to do something you practically have to own it. But in all the nearby towns and stuff there are pools and stuff that people go to. They (not me) hunt or camping during the summer, and at my school for two-thirds of the entire student body, summer practically ends in 4 days. Between then and the beginning of regular classes, there are sports tryouts, and training/practicing, academic practices (quizbowl), and marching/field show practices for color guard, instrumentalists, and drum line. I dread that damned alarm clock!

Over The Shoulder Restraints. (OTSRs)
mightbeawannabe replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm 5' 11" and have never banged my head until it was painful on any coaster and I'd say I'm fairly average height. The restraints are there for a good reason. I think you are tying to compare two different rides here. One custom Intamin to the next is very different, but if one Mega lite had OSTRs and another identical one had T-bars, then it would be a more valid test to see which was the most comfortable. A standardized restraint also keeps the production cost down and gives the ability to buy in bulk that could keep a rider safe, not necessarily comfortable, and design the ride around what the restraints can withstand. -

B&Ms do have headbanging but I read that it is caused by tiny flaws and fluctuations in the track and joints between sections. It is less noticeable on some newer ones though because they have a stricter standard for deviation. and Vekoma has a less strict standard. I dunno ^Good point. I meant specifically Vekoma's Boomerangs where when they stall, the front and back ends are more in a sideways hanging position than just straight down. But I'm not totally sure if you could fall out or not by leaning toward the ground at 50 ish degrees in a lapbar, but I think that it is possible. Is there a picture of a stalled Boomerang for reference? -
Photo TR: Worlds of Fun!
mightbeawannabe replied to angryemobeaver's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Nice report! Some people were doing the same thing at the pop machines in Fury of the Nile's line two weeks ago. They never believed me when I told them it wasn't true and those WoF commercials barely had any footage of WoF. GP... About Boomerang-they didn't have an Australia section built as originally planned in '73 and in Boomerang's place the Zambezi Zinger used to reside (an awesome Schwarzie Speed racer) until 1997 and in 2000, Cedar Fair stuck in a Boomerang in Africa, because of the lack of Australia. Also why there is a Kangaroo ride in Europa. About landscaping-Done well before Cedar Fair took over. Explains a lot, don't it? Spinning Dragons-same experience at Nickelodeon Universe. They did open at the same time....and they were the first two.... Worlds of Fun, in my opinion, looks the nicest of all CF parks. -
Over The Shoulder Restraints. (OTSRs)
mightbeawannabe replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The reason they're needed is because that is/was they only safe way to ride an inversion at the time or for that type of ride. Premier obviously found an equally or safer way of keeping patrons safe on the ride. Vekoma and all Arrow loopers had them because that was what was deemed safest then by Arrow (who built trains for Vekomas and their own) and still safe today, otherwise they might change them. We still see new Vekoma trains with them and they ARE improved from the infamous horse-collar restraints. They do try to make the experience more enjoyable for their guests and have put money into designing new trains. Some parks don't really see a problem with their current trains or can't afford new trains so they leave them. OTSRs aren't really as big of an issue as they are sometimes made out to be. Sometimes rides may stall UPSIDE DOWN or close to it (Boomerang Cobra Rolls) and they do not want anybody to become injured and die because that costs the park and manufacturer money. They are needed because they keep you SAFE. They know what they're doing, don't question them. Better to have a slight headache than to be a bloody splatter on the ground right? -

Why is IOA's attendance so low?
mightbeawannabe replied to ansley's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm American and I consider it rude for some random creep at Disney or any other place to talk to me (no offense the ghost). I might be a bit antisocial but that's just my view. I think that Disney started a major redevelopment of Florida in the 70s because of the increase in visitors from all over the globe. I think that any tourist destination or major transportation company (planes & trains)in central Florida feeds off of Disney to an extent. Think about it, over 20 million people visiting per year, I can't see why you wouldn't want to take advantage of it. When more tourists started showing up, other companies had their try in that location (Universal, Sea world, Wet 'n Wild, etc) and some had success, others didn't but obviously enough people go through those gates at IOA to keep the lights on. And with this, more companies try out and more and more people show up and decide to live there, becoming repeat customers and all. Then new technologies come into use and more people decide to fly down to Florida and their No. 1 stop: Walt Disney World. They have so much success that it is nearly impossible to find someone who has never heard of it. People then expand upon what they're told by their friends in their minds and decide that they should go sometime. Then, when they actually get there, and come home with bunches of stories, even more people flock to Disney and groups like Blackstone don't get quite as much chance but they do very well in the minds of other companies who would kill for that many visitors. Companies then feel greedy for more guests and money that they spend, spend, spend to try and attract more but their reputation doesn't build up quickly. It takes time and patience. Universal Orlando at the very most 20 years old. Disney has been around for 55 years and has many destinations and options to choose from. In the meantime Disney keeps rounding up more and more guests. Word of mouth is a powerful thing indeed.
