Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The website preview did say that it was basically just a test in the URL itself, and all they had up were some of the specs, the layout, a few somewhat crappy screenshots of the ride, the name of the ride, the manufacturer, and one crazy logo thing. They had links for videos and more, but no videos were posted on there yet - that's when I realized the site was incomplete. I don't think they anticipated anyone actually realizing the site was up, as it was just a test! -

I'm not sure what the rules would be on posting that...so I sent the picture to someone who might! Considering that site is now password protected, and even though I have no connection/insider information with SDC, I would just feel kinda guilty posting it since the announcement is only 10 days away. I believe they said the top speed was 68 mph, and it looks like it will haul through most of the course; a fairly short, but sweet (looking) ride, kinda like Wildfire! -

And within 30 minutes, the site is now password protected...The double barrel roll was the final element just before turning in to the brakes/station, and there looked to be a few decent airtime moments and two big overbanks throughout the rest of the ride! -

The layout is up on the SDC 2013 project website...DOUBLE BARREL ROLL!!!! And GICT is simply named and outside banked turn? -

I think it's most like the Stengel dive on Goliath at Walibi Holland. Outlaw is definitely more inverted, yet this element won't change the direction of the coaster quite as much. -

It kind of looks like the track may be inclining slightly towards the end of the turn...by the end of the turn it will probably be elevated quite a bit with the ravine below. I'm guessing another overbanked curve will send this thing back down toward the drop before the coaster rises up toward the station. -
I liked the show...it's always fun to see a new coaster show, even if most of the rides were built a few years ago. I watched it with my roommate who loves coasters, and his older brother who is terrified. I'm very familiar with the coasters they mentioned, as was my roomate, except Aftershock (obviously I was familiar with Deja Vu, but I had no idea one of those moved to Idaho!) - but his older brother seemed somewhat amazed by the rides. I wish they would have thrown I-305 in on the G's show, but perhaps the reason they went with older coasters is because people around the U.S. may already be somewhat familiar with these rides, or rides like them, and that way they can have a more educated vote on the rides? Robb was great on TV! I'm not just sucking up here, especially as I see no reason to do so, he was just an excellent cast. (it's not like Robb would be like hey, that Yeti guy needs a free trip to Happy Valley or anything). He spit out valuable information quickly, and gave good insight in to what coaster enthusiasts look for in a ride! How about the lady with the Montu tattoo? Did anyone else notice that she also had a Dueling Dragons tattoo (maybe my favorite moment in the show)? I wonder if she regrets that now...I can just see her showing the ride attendants on Dragons Challenge and making some sort of scene about it!

Didn't RMC help construct El Toro and T-Express? They may not have designed it...but I think they know what they're doing here! This is pre-fab track, so I couldn't imagine it will be as rough as SOB... -

Well technically, in the picture it would be left to right but on the ride it will be right to left...I thought it looked like it would fly down in to the ravine...moving very, very fast. It should be going pretty fast through the dive element, which is going to mean the transition in to the next turn will be FAST! -

After the turn it looks like it heads back toward the drop...though with this twisted track so far it would be hard to tell what's next. But, Chadster, you say at some point the ride will hop over the lift? -

What about Rocky Mountain Oyster? This thing just looks like an inverting Stengel dive to me, but it doesn't make much sense to throw Stengel in there. Anything but "Jo-jo Roll" works for me... -

I'm still hoping for more airtime on the new ride...an inversion is awesome, but this is not very much to ask for in a pre-fab wooden coaster! I think the track looks amazing so far, and blends in so well with SDC's look and feel. The coasters look great from the lake, and you can see most of Wildfire and a good part of PowderKeg; you can just barely see the top of the lift and the crest of the first drop of Outlaw from the lake. -

Riding in the back row on Wildfire you could see the cars in front of you shaking, and it didn't get any better in the front row either...could it be because the train was virtually empty? I've felt rattles on Kumba and Hulk, but this seemed worse... -

I went to the park on Wednesday during my annual vacation to Table Rock with my brother and my cousin. We got there around 2:30 because we were planning on going a second day, and it was over 100 degrees outside so we didn't want to spend a full day at the park. It was so hot that as I walked in to the park I could feel the black top sort of sinking below me (and I only weigh about 170). I didn't get any pictures, but it was an amazing trip. It really didn't quite seem like it was over 100, but that probably has to do with the shade and the fact that I never had to wait in a line more than 3 trains...we were always moving. First ride was Wildfire, which was a one train wait for the front and no wait for any other row...nonetheless, we went for the front. The ride has developed a surprisingly strong rattle, and I can't say I've felt any B&M looper rattle quit that much. The trims have taken away from the ride before, but the trim on the first drop didn't seem to be on, and the trim before the cobra roll almost felt necessary to avoid some headbanging. Other than that, I still love the ride...it's quick and it packs a big punch - we took 4 more rides in row 8 throughout the day, and boy that first drop is as good as ever back there, and I just love the g's in the last turn. PowderKeg was running great today. It was running two trains, and didn't have more than a 2-3 train wait the whole time I was there. Lots of air and twistiness, gotta love it. It was broken down near the end of the day, but reopened 20 minutes before closing so I could get a front seat ride with no wait, as well as the back! Thunderation was great, but a little rough. It was running two trains while I was over there, but the ride ops kept letting one train go without any guests...but still there was open seating in every row except for the front and back. Fire In The Hole had a very surprisingly short wait considering the heat...still a fun ride, and I actually got pretty wet at the end. I also rode the Giant Swing, which is always fun, the Disk-O, Waveswinger, Lost River, Grandfather's Mansion, and The Flooded Mine...all in under 5 hours. Oh, and don't eat their burgers...they're terrible. I really have to hand it to the employees at SDC. They always kept a great attitude and worked hard despite the heat and the outfits they have to wear. Two employees at the concession stands even stopped us as we were walking to fill our empty water bottles to make sure we stayed hydrated! As for the new coaster, you could get a great view of the drop from Wildfire and PowderKeg. After seeing these pictures, I wish I would have ridden the train to get a better view! The drop is absolutely stunning . I remember thinking it looked like the ride was nearly upside down in this overbank/zero-g thing, so I do think it looks like it will be a roll of some sort. Whatever it is, it seems like the train will be going through it at a very high speed and will have some great headchoppers! I asked a ride op at Lost River if "she was excited about the new coaster", and she said "Oh no, I have no idea what it is. They haven't told us anything about it yet." They have to know it's a coaster, but they obviously don't know any details. I'm pumped that I have a guaranteed return to SDC next year to ride this baby! -
Best Dark Roller Coaster?
The Yeti replied to drewelap's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite is Revenge of the Mummy...the first time I rode it, the ride caught me completely off guard and it is still just as fun every time! RnRC and WDW Space Mountain are up there as well. My least favorite is easily the Underground at Adventureland in Iowa...it's somewhat amusing in how boring and pointless the ride is - and it was also the most recent coaster added to the park (over 10 years ago). -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't see it being an issue on that ride, and it hasn't even opened yet. Skyrush's forces seem to be what causes the stapling, and DOD won't have forces like that. Of course the ride op can always staple you in, but I say that's you're own fault! I imagine those noodles (why do I feel so dumb saying that) would make DOD even more thrilling in the end compared to the OTSRs on other drop towers. -

You missed out on nothing...Journey To Atlantis or something like this is/looks way better. I'm not sure I love the ride DiVertical, but I definitely don't like the name...Maybe it's just that the whole thing just looks a little "meh" amid the height and cool lift. However, I am really happy that this ride isn't just one drop - the extra hills and turns really add a lot. -
Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to OzCatter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They did say projects...so here's to hoping they have more in store for 2013! The thing about a park like Worlds of Fun adding an attraction like Dinosaurs Alive is, how long will it last? I feel like I can get this same experience at a Children's Museum...it's a cool idea, but I feel like it would fit better in a theme park that already has higher attendance and bigger thrills. I'd maybe go through it if there was no line...but then again, I know this attraction is not geared towards me. Is Dino Alive an up-charge attraction? -
Coolest Ride Vehicles
The Yeti replied to Cerberus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At night it looks very, very cool. I'd have to say both Mantas' trains look great. Themed coaster trains in Florida are just awesome...Hulk, Dragon Challenge, Cheetah Hunt, SPACE MOUNTAIN, RnRC. I also love Furious Baco's trains! In terms of non-themed coaster trains, I just love the trains on Intamin pre-fabs. Seeing videos of those things just haul through the course just make the train look so huge and powerful. I also really like the smaller Intamin coaster trains on Maverick, Fahrenheit, iSpeed, etc - they look very sleek. -
Intamin Accelerators
The Yeti replied to HCOSurfer90's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
iSpeed is an LSM coaster...but it looks better than any Accelerator! I've never been on one yet...last time I went to CP, Dragster was only taking 2-4 riders at a time and giving rollbacks every ride. I should have ridden for the rollback, and for the 2 launches, but 5 hours was a bit much - and riding Maverick again sounded better! -

Yes, it will be wooden. The ride will not run on steel rails or I-beams, but it will hopefully be just as smooth as any other pre-fabricated wooden rollercoaster
