Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It won't run on steel rails. The track looks a lot like T Express if you ask me...RMC mentioned they wanted to use steel wheels for their wooden coasters, and lets hope we see those on 'The Outlaw.' It seems like the drop could be what they finish next, and I can't wait to see how steep it will be! -

Ehhhh now that was 2 months ago...it would make sense to say focus on this season. That does make me think they may not be adding something too big, but seriously, World's of Fun - I see your annoying commercials that salute the thrill rider and say ride on. This thrill rider says give me something new to ride on! - same blog article Again pushing off next year, in the same thing. Hopefully the corporation will see the desire for something big and thrilling. It's not like that Q&A session was just questions asked by coaster lovers - the GP seem to want a new big ride for 2013, too! They also stated Timberwolf will be there for a long time...I still like the ride, but it's rough, long, and I'd love to see at least the helix go. (I think the park needs a launched coaster!) I agree...and a launched looper would pretty much solve the problem that they could also use a good sit-down looper! -

I agree...I think the ride looks great already and will likely fit in extremely well at SDC. Though it sort of has a newer woodie look to me - more like El Toro. It also looks like they plan on building a nice queue for this ride, just like Wildfire and PowderKeg...or really, most of their rides. It'll be cool to see the ride being built when I'm there this summer! -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd rather hit my thigh on the restraints than hit my head. Throughout the flat rides and coasters I've ridden, I feel like I've had restraints digging in to my thighs enough to bear Skyrush. As intense as the ride is, maybe it will sway people away...and I'm all for it! I can't wait to ride this moster! It is a shame to hear the crew is getting the ride dispatched so slowly, and I can't think of any coaster that I've ridden that unloaded on the same side the ride boarded...very strange. It seems like this short of a ride with such a large train would be able to cycle through lines quickly. Hopefully they figure a good system out and get thing sped up. -

Even though Prowler is pretty amazing, it can still seem like a smaller, family oriented ride to the GP. My friends didn't have much to say about Prowler, other than how smooth it is for being a wooden coaster (and hasn't it been 4 years since Prowler?). The park really does seem to have a ton of room for rides. As much as I'd love a Giant Frisbee, I think they have a good collection of flat rides, and a coaster would be most beneficial. -
Fun Spot America Discussion Thread

Amazing...this looks much more twisty than the original layout I saw for this coaster, and I'm loving it! I'll bet Fun Spot has a good little thrill ride on their hands...they know they have to in order to draw crowds out from the other parks. I've been to this Fun Spot, but I don't think I even rode any rides - this will certainly be a good reason for me to go next time I'm in Orlando! I can't think of any other wooden coasters in Orlando right now...maybe I'm forgetting something? -

Well that's exactly what this is...wishful thinking for something big for their 40th anniversary. Nobody mentioned anything about construction, we are just speculating as to where the next coaster could go. They haven't added any major thrill rides since Prowler, and we're all just sharing what we wish for the park and speculating as to what could happen. I am not surprised there has been no construction, and it being WoF, I wouldn't be that surprised if they build nothing at all. The last few years they completely redid Camp Snoopy and turned it in to Planet Snoopy, so they have added some good family attractions in the past few years...Worlds of Fun does not seem like a park that would get a Dino Alive attraction, and I do think they'll go for a thrill ride in the next two years. -

^I wouldn't mind seeing Timberwolf removed...I can't picture what is behind Finish Fling, but it feel like there could be a lot of room to expand between there and Prowler. Of course I would love a mega-lite...I think the park could use another good, big coaster - I hope they can get their hands on some Intamin. They could also use a new flat ride - and I would love to see something like a Huss Giant Frisbee or something like Skyhawk, just hopefully not a Windseeker. -
The Mysterious B&M Green Wingrider Track
The Yeti replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's in China at the park now, so obviously we know who it's for. The customer was called X-Works on the old sticker, you can see that much...but I believe that was what you could see before they covered it up, so they would have covered it up after the fact. This was probably a label they replaced when they shipped it so that they could keep track (I realized after typing "track", that it can be a pun, and I can assure you it was not intended). Edit: The job number on the picture of the label on page 2 is different, but the customer is the same reading X Works. So X Works may have nothing to do with the customer, or that picture of the label on page 2 is for a different job? Then again, with the job numbers being different it could be relating to the different steps of manufacturing, shipping, and building a coaster. -

That track is looking very much like T-Express's up close! SDC's train goes right past the station for this ride, and there is a good pic of a little dip coming out of the station and up to the lift. Looking at the track it is evident that this thing will be able to carry some serious speed. Sounds like it will have a good drop from the rumors so far, but I worry a little bit about what the layout will be after the drop...they've mentioned it will have some high speed turns, but nothing yet about airtime and hills. Please, give us some ejector airtime! We know what this type of ride capable of! -
Microsoft TechEd 2012 Closing Party
The Yeti replied to Emiroo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dudley Doo Right's Ripsaw Falls is epic. You will be surprised, and if people aren't standing on the bridge near the end spraying people with their water jets you may not even get soaked. Popeye is amazing, but you are pretty much guaranteed to get soaked. Dr. Doom is great as well...the atmosphere makes and theming makes it one great ride, and it is a little intense. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
The Yeti replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My favorite endings: Space Mountain's WDW's final drop...though that tunnel is a little loud for my tastes. I do love the helix at the ends on Wildfire, (& tunnel) Kumba, and Raptor. Maverick. The ride pretty much changed how I view any coaster, and that second half was just insanity. The Stengel dive into a sweet airtime hill, and breaks. Wow...just wow. ROTM's fake ending/ending was great! Worst ending: The Dragon at Adventureland (Iowa) - those helixes are just stupid and rough. Not entirely bad, just disappointing endings: These two are in the same park (SDC) - PowderKeg and ThuNderaTion - They are both good rides that deliver while they deliver, but both plagued (IMO) by the same issue: they both end with a good sized drop, a turn, and breaks. ThuNderaTion is a good, long Mine Train Coaster, and it certainly needed that lift hill to get to the station - but they could have added more to the end. Even a bunny hill on the way back to the station could improve it. PowderKeg may have it even worse...it ends with a 90 foot drop into (in SDC's mind the greatest thing EVER) a "butterfly turn" and then the breaks. They should have cut that 270 degree turn short and sent it back in to the woods before returning to the station - now that would have made the ride amazing. Really though I shouldn't complain, because the ride does end with a drop...I mean, that's pretty exciting - but the drop was not that good and left the ride feeling a bit unfinished. Great-lookng endings I have not yet ridden: X-Flight at SFGAm...it's just kind of funny to me that the whole ride is bigger, taller and faster but it builds up to the massive twist at the end, and it just sort of slowly rolls through these obstacles. Guests will surely go crazy about that, and I've gotta say it is a heck of a way to end a coaster. Tatsu nearly ends with its pretzel loop...I've ridden Matna and S:UF and both had their pretzel loops near the beginning of the ride, and the rest of the ride was much less exciting - especially S:UF. Tatsu's layout just looks great, but ending it with a huge pretzel loop in a valley is just greatness, pure greatness. -

I was thinking the same thing...but I have a feeling that, despite the insane airtime I got near the front seat on Adventureland's Outlaw, after riding SDC's The Outlaw I'll bet you will have no trouble forgetting. I love the name - now how about a layout.... -

Haha I heard about that Nelly concert...that is quite strange, though he sort of seems to be losing any tough guy image that he used to have with this new music he puts out... And Good for SDC! I'm glad they're planning on some more major additions after this one! Now I've got my hopes up for this new ride, because the more I think about it, SDC has added so many family attractions over the last 10 years...maybe they are ready to let loose and build something big. I also didn't realize that RMC helped construct many of these incredible Intamin wooden coasters, so I have less fear that this ride will be some sort of prototype rather than an "A-lister." I haven't ridden a pre-fab woodie, and if this is indeed a pre-fab then I can't wait! I still think SDC could go for something gimmicky, like: "OMG! Let's build a water....coaster!" - Buzzsaw Falls, or "What if we just let the guests choose to ride forward ORRRRR backward?!" - "OMG CALL ARROW!" - ThuNderaTion In all seriousness though - a rumored 81* drop....I'd be fine with 70 on a woodie! Can't wait to hear more! -
China Dinosaur Park Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've never ridden a 4D coaster, but is this what people mean when they say X2 is rough as well? I never thought it would have related to the choppy, rotational movements of the seats, and always thought it was more of a rattling like on a woodie or Arrow looper. I figured the choppy rotation would be somewhat expected with how rotation of the seats is on a track with X2, but this Dinoconda looks insanely choppy. The first half loop with the full flip is such a sweeeet looking element, but in the video it's funny that once the seats are upside down they are almost struggling to flip back upright! Another thing I would love to see on 4D coasters even more is the standing/sitting sensation when going down a half-loop. With this type of controlled rotation, you could basically give the same sensation as a freefall drop ride on a coaster that is both long and intense...but I guess they need to nail down creating a smoother ride. -

The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The way the back seat flies over the first airtime hill is so great, but it looks like in any row there is no escaping the airtime. I'll have to make my first trip to Hershey Park sometime this year...any recommendations on when to visit? -
I remember watching Wild and Crazy kids when I was young, and I always wanted to see the episode where they rode the roller coaster but I never saw it until just now! Nice, and thanks for finding that gem! Colossus must have been enormous back then, especially for those kids! Gotta love Omar Gooding!

Man I really want to ride one of these Mack launched/mega coasters or mega-lites. They look like a lot of fun, and though this ride seems to be a little slow towards the end of the first half, it has a good looking second half. Sure it's not Blue Fire, and there appears to be little airtime, but it looks like a great family ride and hopefully this will start a little trend here in the U.S of Mack coasters. I've never been to SWSD, but this looks like one quality ride for the park!

Do they still run all the water on Thunderhawk? You used to get soaked when they had it on full blast, but sometimes they had different "programs" or no water at all...I do like a little moderation WOF! Though I remember the ride always gave me a good laugh. -

Anyone have an idea of how steep the airtime hills are (both incline and decline)? I'm sure it's similar on most B&M hyper coasters, I guess I never knew how steep other hypers' airtime hills were and I can't judge the angle that well. -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
...the story continues...I go there every year as a tourist, but not to visit SDC. Closing SDC will not make Table Rock Lake go away, it will not make the go kart tracks, "fun spots", Ripleys, or mini golf course go away, and there are some resorts on the lake near Branson and in Branson that are tourist destinations in themselves. SDC may have helped establish Branson, but Branson has a great amount for families to do and SDC can be an expensive day for a family. I'm not trying to be rude, but for SDC to get shut down I feel that the town would have already died as a tourist destination. When this new coaster opens, I'd definitely expect the park to be more crowded, and the park will draw a lot of traffic to that side of Branson. Just a tip to anyone planning a two day trip at the park. If you go to the park at 4 PM one day, I believe you get free admission the next day. -
Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
The Yeti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SDC used to be pretty much nothing in terms of thrills. I think the area is still growing as a vacation spot that has a fairly large draw, and brings in some of the same groups that used to go to Lake of the Ozarks. Branson is not a very big town, and SDC is not and probably never was the main draw to the area. I remember when SDC added Thunderation in the 90's, and had no idea anything was there until you could see a coaster through the trees. I was just a kid when I first went, but there were not nearly as many rides as there are now. They have grown so much since then, and they have so much more potential still. This new project has gotten me very excited, but I still can't expect too much in terms of thrills from SDC - regardless, it's been a while since they added a coaster and I'm sure it will bring in some business.
