Cedar Fair buys PARAMOUNT PARKS!
TheGreatOne replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You mean the part where they took out all of the history, heart and soul from it? That's exactly how I feel. Chalk me up on the pessimistic side of this deal. I honestly can't believe no one mentioned the worst part of this deal...all Five Paramount parks are going to be Pepsi parks! Ugh! I can confirm the following rides will have trims added to them after the acquisition is complete: Both Eiffel Towers, Carowinds' Scooby Doo dark rides, all waterslides at the Boomerang Bay waterparks. Don't ask me how I know...I have my sources. -
restraint of Loup Garou failed
TheGreatOne replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I imagine they go through normal off-season maintenance similar to how we do it here in America. The question is...Did they completely miss this or did something severe enough happen between now and then to cause metal to break? I imagine for a restraint to fail that it takes a decent size of metal to break. Can anybody possibly explain some technical of restraints? Scary stuff...but that's why seatbelts mean a lot on rides. -
Got this from the E3 page on the internet: Thrillville Visit Thrillville for a nonstop party in a theme park you create. An all-access pass to adventure and fun, Thrillville lets you experience a fully interactive and customizable amusement park where you can play dozens of midway minigames, interact with your park guests, and even build and ride roller coasters and over 100 attractions. Thrillville combines elements of simulation, party games and social interaction like nothing before it - all in one of the most family-friendly console games ever! For the first time ever, Thrillville allows gamers of all ages to easily build and customize the coaster of your dreams. Gone are the days of the complex PC techniques used in other coaster games. Rather, Thrillville's easy to use building mode has been designed specifically for the console platforms and makes building all 75-plus rides from wooden, corkscrew and inverted coasters to merry go rounds, trains and carnival rides, easy, and most importantly, fun. Imagination is the only height limit with Thrillville, where the fun ranges from racing on go-kart tracks you put together and playing mini-golf on courses you designed to joining friends for dozens of four-player party games, from bumper cars to arcade shoot-'em-ups. You can also tour the park on foot - a first for theme-park titles - chatting and joking with all the guests to help them out and make sure they're enjoying themselves. Slated for a fall release, Thrillville is being developed by Frontier Development for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PSP. Sounds interesting...I'd love to see some screenshots.

Photo: TR Holiday World Media Day

I concur, Gobbler Getaway is going to be THE talk-about attratction of 2006!!! I didn't even know HOW to use a turkey caller before! Thanks Granny! It actually does look like a lot of fun...and pretty long, too. It looked like they still have a lot of work to do when I was there. They were still painting, no queues had been installed, etc. Hopefully they'll have it ready for next weekend. -Bryan"I need to go back and ride Voyage again" Wood -

Here is an "official" review I wrote: http://www.thrillnetwork.com/stories_view.php/1532 You guys, the on-ride video doesn't do the ride justice. First off, it's in the front seat. The back seat is wilder because you're whipped through everything. I don't instantly fall in love with rides, but this ride is just sick. Don't just watch the video...go out and ride it! It's definitely worth your time. -
There are quite a few WWE people who travel to parks while on the road. I met Mick Foley at Stark Raven Mad in 02 or 03, he was a really nice guy. I also ran into Al Snow at PKI's opening day back in 2003. -Bryan "really hasn't watched wrestling since the days of Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior" Wood

New coaster for 2006 "Jarvo"!

Cool models. So does your BORG model feature pealing paint and show part of Stealth's paint job like the real thing? -
Sonny's All you can eat ribs were great! I had some this weekend in Charlotte. Heck of a deal for $11.99.

I was at Lake Winnie the day before. Orbiter was fantastic, especially compared to BGE's. It felt like my face was getting ripped off! Also, there was no one there, so we just stayed on rides like Orbiter and Oh-Zone....even Wacky Worm. The ride-op even ENCOURAGED us (without our asking) to take pictures from the Oh-Zone tower. Lake Winnie is definitely a one-of-a-kind place and I had a lot of fun there.

If Hades was any indicator...this ride is going to be a Beast....and easily trump The Beast...the way a world-class sprinter would outrun an ACE'er. -
I really hate the press sometimes....

Overrated coasters in your opinion
TheGreatOne replied to Deadromanticx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who finds MF vastly overrated. The drop is great, but after that, it just meanders at a fast clip. I'll take most hypercoasters over MF anyday. Ghostrider was just heinous when I rode it in January. I had so much hope for that ride, and it was brutal. There was some decent spots airtime, but nothing close to what I was expecting. A very disappointing ride. The sad thing was, I could see why people like it, but the train wasn't executing the course well, if that makes any sense. Others: Any stand-up other than Riddler's Revenge California Screamin'-the definition of a "meh" ride As was stated earlier, Lightning Racer is fun, but Wildcat is a far superior ride Zeus- What an awful, awful ride. I needed a spine readjustment after one ride The Beast- Obvious Viper at Great America-Maybe I caught it on a bad day, but it wasn't as impressive as everyone says Superman at SFMM-Great airtime, but nothing else to wink at -
Fun Spot-Indiana Six Flags Great America Paramount's Kings Dominion Six Flags Elitch Gardens Kings Island Six Flags over Texas is getting one for this year. -Bryan "still a great ride to hit up" Wood

Your Closet Coaster
TheGreatOne replied to CP_RULES's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Since Arrow Loopers are getting so much "guilty love", I'll throw in mine: Carolina Cyclone at Carowinds. It ran amazing when I visited in 2003 and I'm looking forward to it this weekend. I also love Skyliner at Lakemont Park. The airtime in the backseat from the first drop is insane! -
Why did CCI fail?
TheGreatOne replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
CCI's aren't all maintenance nightmares. Some of the ones I've ridden have held up well are: Raven, Legend, Silver Comet, Cornball Express, Cyclops. The latter three are run at parks that don't have huge maintenance budgets, but they take care of their rides. When it comes to wooden coasters, it's up to parks to make sure the rides run well. -

I won't consider their site updated until they remove Astroworld...which has literally been removed from Houston. -
Papa John's and Six Flags
TheGreatOne replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They're actually launching a new franchising initiative in New England. They fell on hard times and are finally getting back on their feet. I read an article where they'd like to open 1000 stores with 3-4 years. -
Papa John's and Six Flags
TheGreatOne replied to ParkTrips's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hungry Howies would've been great...but they have a somewhat limited national reach, whereas Papa John's are everywhere. I think Six Flags was looking for something big, unfortunately. I definitely would love to see more Hungry Howie's around! -Bryan "buttered cheese + cajun crust=amazing" Wood -
New Rides at Hershey Park

I think it would absolutely be a shame if they ever removed Coal Cracker. Arrow Hydro Flumes are rare to come by, and it has a great location. -
Kings Dominion and Carowinds New Buddy
TheGreatOne replied to Sidekick2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Exactly. To make up for it, parks should get more creative with their tracks. Mt. Olympus has done a good job of that. No one wants to drive a slow Go-Kart around a 1/100th replica of a NASCAR track. -Bryan "loved Medusa's Drop because of the triple-down" Wood -
New Rides at Hershey Park
TheGreatOne replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hersheypark actually has quite a bit of room to build future coasters. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. As someone mentioned, Hersheypark is creative with placement, which affords them more room than most parks their size. -
New Rides at Hershey Park
TheGreatOne replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, 2008 seems the most likely. Probably something "small". If they really go all out with the waterpark in 2007, I can't see them spending a ton of money in 2008 for another major project. They generally seem to space out their big additions. -

That's exactly what I thought. John Stamos probably can't even afford a house like that now...
