  1. Have you actually ever been to a Family Entertainment Center? Castles n' Coasters in Phoenix is a great example. They don't have great rides, but tons of people come for the massive arcade and mini golf! How about Sea World? They don't have tons of coasters, but they draw huge crowds. You can easily draw people if you give them good VALUE and a couple of fun hours of entertainment. -Bryan "Someone has Cedar Point Syndrome" Wood
  2. Nice to see a park that still has a Weber TraumBoat (pretty much the same as a Huss Ranger).
  3. I am suing Wes for making me spontaneously tearing jaw muscles, stomach muscles and losing bladder control all at once. I will also buy him the best $5 hooker we have if he ever comes out to Dayton. -Bryan "ten bucks sadly says the first post was actually serious" Wood
  4. Joe- That Moser "Power Surgeish" ride at Funtown is the Moser Flipping Action Arm. They seem fairly new....Wild West World in Wichita is getting one when they open next season.
  5. Honestly, that logic doesn't quite make sense to me. If few people are going to use it, they won't "lose money" at gates at their other parks. In fact, if it motiviates people to go to one of their other parks, they profit from in-park spending from people that might have otherwise not gone to another CF park. Let's try out a scenario here. Say you get a PCW pass WITH park hopping abilities that doesn't cost extra. You find out that Cedar Fair operates a park in Southern California, where you're going on vacation. Would you not want to stop, since it's free anyways? You go to KBF, and, even though you get into the park for free, can make Cedar Fair a profit with your in-park spending. Parks makes a nice profit (not that we don't already know this) off of in-park spending. You buy overpriced food and souvenirs...which otherwise would not have been purchased because you wouldn't have gone. It makes more sense for CF to give regular PCW passholders the option to park hop because it might motivate some people to travel to their parks. Not giving them the option means lost opportunities for other venues in their chain. -Bryan "Cedar Fair is like a disappointing blockbuster movie that doesn't deliver" Wood
  6. Amen to that. I actually loves all three shows. I was ticked that Arrested Development got shafted, but I'll take the Office. The real screw-job was Will Arnett not winning! COME ON!!!!
  7. Me too. I could ride the one at Como Town for weeks and never get bored with it. Right behind Intamins for me as well. They run for like five minutes straight, and you get awesome air every time. I've never felt unsafe on it. The one at Como Town is a SBF Visa Drop Zone as well, not ARM/Larson.
  8. A picture of the ride in question. From enhancing it, I see no outward magnetic brakes like I see on some drop towers; such as Intamin's, for example.
  9. The company who makes the Drop Zone towers is SBF Visa Group of Italy. http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index%20Pages/dropzone.html If I'm not mistaken, the ARM/Larson towers have magnetic brakes, which rules out accidents like these. -Bryan "The ARM/Larson towers are my second favorite, behind Intamin towers" Wood
  10. This is good news. I'm glad to see that America is keeping one if it's biggest manufacturers. While I'm not a fan of the big towers, I love the Double Shots and Avalanche knocks my pants off! -Bryan "I'd love to see Power Tower get tilting cars" Wood
  11. Glad to see you found a mullet. It wouldn't be a fair in the Great Lakes-Midwest region without a mullet. It would be like having a fair without Funnel Cakes and Elephant Ears.
  12. Am I the only one who saw this and thought Ryan should do this at a park for a TPR video? Nice work, BTW.
  13. Pretty much every coaster will hit a bad year every now and again. People can't always foresee a ride getting a little more rough than normal half-way through a season. I'd say patience is a virtue, grasshopper. I'll bet they've noticed and will address the ride accordingly this offseason.
  14. Actually, "Credit Whoring" has led me to some interesting places and some rather fun (not intense, but fun) rides that I otherwise wouldn't have ridden. That's the reason I still do it. -Bryan "it's all in perspective" Wood
  15. QUIKTRIP!!!! It's the only gas station I ever bought smoothies and (really good) fountain drinks from. It's one of the few things I miss from Phoenix. -Bryan "It's almost a trendy gas station" Wood
  16. Dude, yea, they are all over the gulf coast states, just not in Atlanta They're all over AZ and New Mexico as well. I miss Whataburger...but I misss Sonic and In-N-Out more.
  17. http://www.borat.tv/ Enough saids.
  18. The newest batch of TPR photos convinces me this is an AquaTrax. Look at some of the supports and variations of the track. Then go compare them to Atlantis Adventure at Lotte World: http://www.rcdb.com/ig1646.htm Everything seems to match up, even the different supports, such as the low-to the ground ones with square connectors: http://www.rcdb.com/ig1646.htm?picture=21. I still don't see why people are convinced it will be a launch coaster since CP and Intamin's last two have had so many issues. -Bryan "an AquaTrax would motivate me to go there next year" Wood
  19. Glad to see Derek has joined the throng of Silver Comet lovers here on TPR. As far as I'm concerned, it (as well as New Mexico Rattler) is the most underrated roller coaster ever built. Disclaimer! You need a sense of humor to view our site, if you don't have a sense of humor, or are easily offended, please turn back now! That is all.
  20. If I'm not mistaken, there is a Galaxi-style coaster there. I just watched a documentary (Patriot Act by Jeffrey Ross) that a comedian shot while doing a USO tour in Iraq. He showed an aerial video of a park, and it looked a lot like this one.
  21. Wes...Georgia had a runoff yesterday for a nomination for a congress seat for the November election. The ridiculously ignorant and stupid incumbent Cynthia McKinney lost her party's nomination. Just to show you how dumb she is...she PRAISED extreme leftist leaders in Cuba and Venezuela in her "defeat speech" (seriously). She pretty much alienated the democratic party. But on topic...sad to see Acrophobia down, it's hand-down one of the scariest rides ever built. It's even more sad that no one has has built one (although I guess it has quite a bit of issues). I miss that and Goliath.
  22. Over the same time I posted attendance figures for WDW....here are the other biggies. Sea World Orlando 2003: 5.2 mil (up 4%) 2004: 5.6 mil (up 4%) 2005: 5.6 mil (-) Not a bad performance by any means, but marginal gains compared to WDW. Busch Gardens Tampa 2003: 4.3 mil (down 4%) 2004: 4.1 mil (down 5%) 2005: 4.31 mil (up 5.1%) The park really struggled with attendance, needing Sheikra to post a rebound in attendance while hiking prices. Universal: 2003: 6.8 mil (-) 2004: 6.7 mil 2005: 6.1 mil IoA: 2003: 6 mil 2004: 6.3 mil 2005: 5.76 mil As you said, Universal has slumped. IoA did post a nice increase in 2004, but failed to keep the momentum in 2005, with a loss of 500,000 people. Now if you argue to contribute a portion of WDW's big increases to exchange rates, would you not see other decent increases (or at least no losses being posted) at the other biggies? My argument here is a rebuttal of Beemerboy's because he claims "BS on Disney's business structure". However, they've proven to buck the up and down trend of attendance and revenue in our industry. WDW and Holiday World are the only ones who continuously post big growth in the past few years while everyone else has struggled at one point. Neither company did that because of a flawed business structure. For the record, I actually prefer A-B and Herschend parks to Disney...but you absolutely can't argue with the fact of their success.
  23. I'll also throw in my thanks for this thread and I hope to see more! I've only stayed on the el=cheapo All-Star Music Resort (High schoool band trip), and I'd like to stay at some of these nicer ones. Wilderness Lodge is probably my first choice.
  24. There is a serious issue with Revolution that cannot be easily resolved. It will not reopen this year. Also, the park's Zamperla Joker is down for an extended time due to an unforseen engineering issue.
