Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
B-RadG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't find Volcano rough but it does shuffle, as do most Intamins. I've noticed it more and more this year than any other (new trains have some role in it?) Anyhow, the turn after the first Heartline is where it shuffles worst and the transition out of the third Heartline isn't as smooth as it used to be. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Millennium Force had misters in the station back when I was there in the last week of June and I honestly can't remember which kind of seat belts Magnum had. -

I had an absolutely AMAZING day at ECB, rain and all. Major thanks to KD for getting everything running and extra thanks to Robb for ordering that Grizzly Juice The backstage tour was great. I've never been that close to an operating coaster, much less one traveling that fast. It was great to ask the park management questions and hear their answers. The TPR Quest Game was just insane. Thanks to everyone who put together ECB. Pictures! No hidden Mickey? Moving on then, lamewads. We were seriously close to this sexy beast! Amazing. You do realize how tall it actually is standing here. Giant lift motor. Noisy lift motor. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSH. Bottom of the first turn Beautiful coaster. This is where it gets good These supports are really beefy. Wheeeeels! I wonder if they melt too. Trim the lift maybe? Even with trims this is still a great hill. Nice floaty air. Beware the violent seatbelts. Wheeeee! It's really FLYING through here. We could get some seriously AMAZING shots from back here. OMG WE HAVE A VERTICAL LIFT!!!! Sexy train booty. Bout to blackout. GENTLEMEN! START YOUR ENGINES! Cause y'all are deprived of American steel. Anaconda's lift motor Anaconda's bottom sprocket. And we got The Intimidator. Holy crap. So good. Thanks to all y'all who made it great.

SFDK Boomerang Stalls Midcourse
B-RadG replied to Columbia's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Vekoma Boomerangs have successfully been operating since 1984. I don't think they're gonna change the design now, especially after making umpteen of them. Every time one stops on one of the lifts or the brakes after the loop the media decides to overhype it and make the ride seem dangerous. -

Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

When I rode Wild One back in May, I sat in the back every time I rode and it was smoother than most of the wooden coasters I've been on, including Roar, which was terrible. Stupid PTCs. -
That article is a complete joke. It would be chill if he hadn't exaggerated it to 500 feet or said that he heard rumors that Drachen Fire injured a rider and they were going to sue. I just emailed the reporter. It frustrates me that it's so terribly hard to check the "facts" that you put into an article.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
B-RadG replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best- Carolina Cyclone- crazy hella forceful helix. Vortex (Kings Island)- forceful helix with laterals. Afterburn- sudden Corkscrew into a death helix. Wild One- messed up unbanked helix. Flight of Fear/Joker's Jinx- Corkscrew into the brakes. Magnum XL-200- violent airtime then a little bit after the initial brake run. Beast- beastly helix followed by an airtime hill. Worst- Great Bear- pointless rolling around til you get close enough to the station. Adventure Express- gotta love terrain coasters that go too far down to make it back to the station. Mantis- ridiculous amount of pointless banking changes that hurt. Batwing/Firehawk- double in-line twists that shuffle real bad with a boring-ass helix. Volcano- you're expecting something exciting... nope. Just brakes. -
What happened to Hypersonic XLC?
B-RadG replied to BrandonR's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The pieces that were sitting in the woods behind Grizzly are no longer there. I was about to point them out to my friend on Grizzly's turnaround and I noticed that absolutely nothing was there. There are random pipes and other crap near Hypersonic's station, but other than that, nothing else is around anymore. Glad to see it go. Twas a piece of crap. When I rode it in 2002, I remember it being the best damn thing I'd ever ridden. The next 4 times I rode it were less than poor quality. It was rough, short, and the brakes were so strong that it hurt. -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
B-RadG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Because dragster was a totaly new type of coaster never before built, as where all the other coasters at cedarpoint have been built elsewhere before....just not as big. You just contradicted yourself. Xcelerator, a hydraulically launched Intamin coaster, opened in 2002 at 205 feet tall. Top Thrill Dragster, also a hydraulically launched Intamin coaster, opened in 2003 at 420 feet tall. The only difference is a stronger launch motor, dissimilar layout, and it's more than two times taller. -
What is your favorite Roller Coaster?
B-RadG replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I second Wild One being underrated. Steel: Millennium Force- So immaculately smooth, fast, and fun. There are awesome spots of force, airtime, and "Woah, I'm going fast!". Wood: Beast- Awesome classic epic winnage. Haulin' ass through the woods then into one of the best helices ever. -
Bad Color Schemes and/or Just Ugly Coasters
B-RadG replied to MattJackson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Anaconda's half-assed new paintjob. Only half of the turn before the brake run, the brake run, and the turn into the station were painted. The rest is the crappy, faded, chipped, puke orange paint. -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread

This is ridiculously amusing I've never been awakened by people gettin dirty but I've been awoken by children running/shouting/knocking on random doors at hotels. I have heard the people in the next room doing it, but it doesn't really bother me. The only way it would bother me is if they woke me up at a random hour in the middle of the night. -
Your favorite coaster tunnel
B-RadG replied to chavslayer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Beast- The tunnel in the giant helix is just great. If you're on the left side of the train you may actually legitimately fear for the safety of your appendages. The helix before the second lift at night is just awesome, pitch black to the fullest Grizzly- Who the hell let that one pass clearance tests? You get crazy close to the top of the tunnel and if you have your hands up will more than likely slap the top of the tunnel. Apollo's Chariot- Because you're moving so quickly and coming down the hill, it does give the illusion that you're going to hit it. -

La Ronde Discussion Thread
B-RadG replied to Skyscraper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
On the Arrows that I've been on that are still run manually (Corkscrew at Cedar Point, Cedar Creek Mine Ride), the operators had to put absolutely no effort into kicking the pedals, but even so it would take something pretty heavy to unlock it just like that. The Vekoma Boomerang (Sidewinder) that I rode didn't make me feel unsafe or endangered, so I don't foresee a major problem with all of their Boomerangs. The problem it was having was that the restraints wouldn't unlock and the operators would either have to jump on the pedal, push it up then back down, or re-lock and unlock the entire train. So since we don't know anything yet, could it be the fault of La Ronde's maintenance of the trains? I realize they're old Arrow trains (prone to be pretty beaten up at this point) but even on the old Arrows I've ridden it didn't concern me that my restraint was going to fly up at any given moment.
