A man, who was riding the Ejection Seat at the Tulsa State Fair, got more than he bargained for when one of the bungee cords snapped. Witnesses say they heard a loud popping noise, and when they turned they saw the man on this ride swinging from post to post. He almost landed practically upside down, dangling 30 feet above the ground. http://www.kotv.com/pages/catimages/Bungee-Rescue-1-100306.jpg Tulsa firefighters rode on an elevated platform to get high enough to secure the ride. Finally, they pulled the rider to safety feet first. The district chief says the rider walked away with only a skinned leg and a few cuts and bruises. The amusement park inspector told the News on 6 the bungee cords on these types of rides are good for 2,000 jumps. They say this particular company changes the cords after just 400 jumps. Six Flags America in Largo will not be serving up the six-legged delicacy because of concerns it would detract from its family-focused attendance goals. "I can't see a lot of moms and dads loving the cockroaches.", said Karin Korpowski, a Six Flags America spokeswoman. Washington Post

Small Video showing how bad Dubai Roads are
BDG replied to dubaidave's topic in Random, Random, Random
Altough I've heard crazy Dubai stories, that video is nothing. -
Home Alone (and sequel) starring Uncle Frank, Buzz, Marv, Harry, etc. "I wouldn't let you sleep in my room... if you were growing on my ass" & Dumb & Dumber starring Ms. Samsonite, Sea Bass, Mental, etc. "You sold my dead bird to a blind kid ?!" "Petey didn't even have a head anymore."

There's no racism in Belgium. What we have in Belgium (and in France and The Netherlands), is a "now it's enough" feeling after all the incidents with many "North African" (Moroccan and Algerian in particular) teens. They all stick up for each other too. If the police wants to arrest one, suddenly ten more show up out of nowhere defending or even hiding him. Or worse, attacking the police. If only those kids would behave and integrate into society...

Using that thing in one or two scenes can be fun, like in Wasabi for example, but an entire movie around a DDR "fight" ?

I wouldn't buy it in Europe anyway. Much too expensive. For example: 20GB 499 euro in Europe 390 - 420 euro in USA (depending on how much sales tax you pay) 330 euro in Japan Rrrright.

Aaah The parrot park. I've seen some great stuff from this park. Very natural habitats for the animals, simple concrete walls are basically non-existant.

The original looks much better in my opinion. I like the Bryce Canyon rocks and colors more, than the Grand Canyon style of Rio Bravo. Wild West Falls Rio Bravo

The Intamin Woodie difference (pics)
BDG replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
All credits should go to Werner Stengel in this case. He invented and patented everything. Two more things you haven't noticed: 1) The Stengel team always tries to use as much wood as possible. Even if a simple steel I-beam could be used, they'll rather use wood. 2) No support touches the footer / earth. There's a gap of a few inches so water and little plants & fungi cannot get hold of the wood. A photo showing both: http://p2.rcdb.com/picmax/six-flags-great-adventure/el-toro30.jpg -

Yes, in pressure suits. Without them, even fighter pilots black-out after a few seconds of sustained 5G. -

They have to use clear plastic for the looping element though. -

Rides that will never happen
BDG replied to zaneymon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Already exists/existed. At "Het Land van Ooit" (translates to "The Land of Ever") in The Netherlands. Riders sat in a ball, similar to those on a bungee-shot ride, which was lifted vertically to about 30 feet, then rolled down a track simlar to that of a rodelbahn. At the end, the ball was rotated until the rider was in an upright position again, to get out. I don't have, nor do I find, any pictures though. That existed/exists as well. It didn't have glasses though, but a 15" display inside a helmet-like cover. The ride operated perfectly, with - after a few tweaks - almost no nausea complaints. However, the park got into financial troubles and was closed within a year after it's opening...most of the park, including this coaster, still exists if I'm correct. But no idea if and when it will reopen... http://www.rcdb.com/ig1901.htm -

What is the best Rollercoaster in the World???
BDG replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There is no best, and hopefully there never will be. But everyone has a personal favorite, or even multiple favorites. I don't care if a ride is rated 1st, 10th or 100th by whatever poll. As long as I had fun while riding it. By the way, a wooden coaster changes so much and so fast, it can be your favorite in the morning, your worst ever in the evening. -
Vekoma trains have the same heavy "block" acting as a lapbar. You have to set your foot against the "bar" to prevent it from hitting your stomach, or staple it real hard. Just make sure it doesn't have a chance of continuously hitting you during the ride. Hydraulic lapbars are a welcome innovation. No presets, it just stays where you want it.
