Alton Towers Discussion Thread

The plans look pretty decent too me. The Black Hole tent is actually massive inside when it's empty so removing it and claiming even more space will make for a huge plot of land on which this thing will occupy. Will be interesting to see how it develops. Neil -
What are some loud rides and coasters?
rctneil replied to JFrombaugh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Have to agree here Chuck, I found Superman to be very loud, especially when it launches and you are walking by the tower! -

I rode Tak Attack on last years Mid America tour and expected much more from it than it offered. It was not as intense as I expected but it was a new experience and a new ride type for me to try. It did look pretty spectacular whilst in operation though. Shame for it to go but everything has it's time. Neil -

Mine was about 2 weeks ago at Alton Towers, The Runaway Mine Train. Neil -
Hey guys, At the beginning of August, we took a family holiday to Cyprus so as a roller coaster fan I obviously seeked out a coaster. The park I came across is called Lucky Star Park and is just outside of Larnaca in a small town called Arradippou. We didn't really stay long as it was a very small park and we were literally the only people in the park. It was difficult to let staff know we were there and they seemed pretty shocked that we actually wanted to ride something. We bought our tickets and took our seats on Blizzard! It was extremely rough and the transitions were way too sudden. I really didn;t expect much from it but a coaster is a coaster and you can't complain (too much anyway!) A few photos for you. ( Not very good as it was only a very quick visit and it was too hot, ) Entrance to the park Blizzard in all it's multicoloured glory! A small train ride Quite a nicely landscaped park, it was super clean and tidy but shame there was nobody there a very packed arcade Tweet Seems like a warehouse for arcade machines Our carriage awaits! The whole park from a distance Regards, Neil

Food and Fatties of Middle America!

Awesome report Joey. SDC really is a lovely lovely park. Thoroughly enjoyed that day. -
I thoroughly enjoyed Ben 10, great kiddie ride, much better than I expected it to be. The reverse journey is much slower but I guess that's to be expected. Sliding down the first hill is pretty awesome and through the station. Thanks for putting the report up Mike and yes it was an excellent day at Drayton. It always surprises me how you can visit on a busy day and then about 3pm - 3.30pm all the bigger rides only have a 5-10 minute wait compared with a few hours earlier with huge long queues. Larry and park index peeps: Feel free to use any of my photos in the Park Index. If you want more then just send me a message and I'm sure I can send a bulk load over for you Neil

It actually looks very decent for a kiddie ride am really looking forward to trying it out. The end spike should be good fun at the front as stated before. -
What is your favorite Roller Coaster?
rctneil replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
ADMIN EDIT! Please try to refrain from hotlinking to other site's photos when TPR's Park Index contains nearly 45,000 ride photos, and many website owners don't appreciate stealing their bandwidth. A few of my favourites (not in any particular order): Nemesis (Alton Towers): Tennessee Tornado (Dollywood): Intimidator 305 (Kings Dominion): California Screamin' (Disney's California Adventure): X2 (Six Flags Magic Mountain): and just because It's a good, fun and enjoyable ride - Spongbob Squarepants' Rock Bottom Plunge (Nickelodeon Land - Mall of America): Regards, Neil -

I'm actually quite looking forward to trying this out. I hope to head down to Drayton sometime just after opening or even for opening and will get some photos and post them on the board. I saw a photo of this ride earlier today and the second tower isn't just straight, it's all wonky which should make for an interesting ride experience. I really hope they theme it all well and it should definitely pull in kiddies. Neil -

rctneil replied to rctneil's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
To be honest, I have no idea whether they were doing anything differently as it was my first visit to FL. It was running smoothly all day though. Got several rides on it and all with less than a 1 minute queue. -

Oh right, I didn't realise that. I guess it's unique for the UK then. Thanks -
Heres my trip report from yesterdays visit to Flamingo Land. This was my first visit to the park and was very impressed. It's a smallish sized park but has aseveral decent attractions and the crowds yesterday were pretty much non existent so everything was walkon. Enjoy! Today we are off to.... Flamingo Land! Just Arrived First up was Velocity... ...It's Vekoma MotoCoaster. Having ridden Pony Express at KBF I expected to be disappointed but it's actually quite a decent ride. The launch track heading towards the main section of the ride Secondly we rode the newly refurbished Wild Mouse. Several bruises later we arrived at Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo is Flamingo Lands flagship attraction and is one of the two roller coasters with the worlds steepest drop. The other being and exact clone of this at Indiana Beach called Steel Hawg. The drop! - The whole ride is like a 21st Century Wild Mouse and it's pretty smooth ride and is very fun. Another view RUN!!!!! "Dare You Ride Kumali?" Kumali is the smoothest Vekoma SLC I have ever ridden. It was a fantastic change riding an SLC with a unique layout. Nice ride. It was ridden several times during the day. The Cobra Roll over the lake. This is the 2nd inversion of the 4 on the ride. Train flying down first drop After Kumali, we headed back to the entrance of the park where I rode, The Navigator After the Navigator, lunch was calling so off it was to Cafe Metropolis Lunch Before! Lunch, nearly at the end! After lunch, we set off to ride the Corkscrew. It was nice to be able to ride one of these again considering the UK lost its most iconic one in 2008 and yes, it was equally as rough The Corkscrews from the car park After the Corkscrew, we rode the Runaway Mine Train and the Dragon Coaster Then it was back off for more rides on Mumbo Jumbo A quick ride on Cliff Hanger. This was my first ride on an S&S Shot and Drop Tower. I thought it was just a shot tower but then we halted near the top and thought, ah I guess it's a drop tower too. Makes for a much more variated ride whcih was great. Flip Flop was ridden next. The frisbee was a good ride and is located over water with two large funnels at either side with a fountain. As it was pretty windy yesterday, they had to turn the fountains down otherwise we would have got soaked! Flamingo Land also has VooDoo The Skyflyer - Blimey this ride is very painful and sounds like it's falling apart. I remember riding a similar one at Camelot years ago as Excaliber and it was painful then. The lapbars just crush you! Splash Battle was closed all day as they seemed to be doing some maintenance works on some of the ride cars. And it wouldn;t have been nice to ride on a cold-ish and windy day anyway Once I had endured Sky Flyer, we had a quick walk around the zoo The Lost River ride travels through the zoo grounds before making it's way up the lift to the splashdown. Scarlet Ibis Tortoise! and a random photo of our drinks for the day! Thanks for reading! - Feel free to use any of the photos in the Park Index or elsewhere on TPR if you so wish. Regards, Neil

Thanks for posting! - It looks incredibly well detailed. Cannot wait to go some day! -
Parc Asterix looks amazing. I've heard of it but never seen pictures. The theming is imense, it's everywhere. The detail of the theming just makes it and I hope to visit someday. Thanks for posting Hans.

The Big One is absolute hell if you ride in the rain. The drops feel like bullets as you fly along. It's also a pretty rough ride. But definitely a classic, if a bit painful

I did AFF Level 1 two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was extremely nervous but it was fantastic. I hope to get to do AFF Level 2 eventually.
