Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
Nrthwnd replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
We're now going to be heading into our second STORM in the last month. Much rain. A lot of flooding, probably. Hopefully, nobody loses their life, as several did in the previous deluge. Stay tuned for what stays strong, and what loses the battle. BTW, our house and blocks are pretty safe from floods in unexpected places (i.e. drains). Heavy rain 'looks' pretty "monsoon awesome", lol. It brings people out on their porches, because it "sounds loud." -
^ All those state side Wacky Worms finally paid off, huh Elissa? Sadly, I didn't add any to my List for the past two years! Hmmmph.

This just popped into my emails. It's from Attractions Magazine, online. Amongst all the news they post about theme parks, there was this one. And one of the first couples that were helped with adoption thru Disney, was this couple and their new baby. Bravo to Disney for this! https://attractionsmagazine.com/disneys-family-building-program-adoption/?mc_cid=a71e314cca&mc_eid=ca232be3e5 Thanks for Attractions Magazine for this great article AND photo!

^ I'm curious. What do you like about these particular candles? And can you post a pic of them?

I just mailed out most of my Holiday Card List. All the out of town cards. And yes, I still do send out cards. I enjoy the fact that when handwritten, the card becomes all the more special, to people I send them to. And I certainly appreciate and enjoy receiving cards, too. And a good # of them in the past have been bee-yoo-tiful! Anyway, along with a couple of gift packages mailed, stamps for International; USA; Canada = $94.82 ....... Cdn.

bert goes to Texas Theme Parks (mega thread)
Nrthwnd replied to bert425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Awesome night shots, Bert! And those photos of the killer whale "performing" ..... great! I envy parks that do a Holiday make-over with the lights and all. And are still open. Thanks for sharing, Bert. -

I am wondering ... Um, is the missing word W-I-N? Just curious of me. -
I am happy that I did know Stephen Sondheim, through several notes over the years, we exchanged. From when I originally wrote to him in late 1987...... till his last note to me in March of this year. And I did get to actually meet him and chat privately with him, at his NY "business" townhouse (1989). He lived in Connecticut. I was very blessed in that way, to know him a bit. He passed away a couple of days ago. He will be missed by me and all of the musical theatre world.

Playland/PNE (Vancouver) Discussion Thread

Here's what was posted about Corkscrew (thanks SoCalJasonland). Who bought it, I still don't know. Maybe somebody else does? I remember reading about ... "somewhere in Brazil" it was sold to? But I could be totally wrong on that. -
So very sad to write this. Stephen Sondheim just passed away today. Age 91. R.I.P. https://www.broadway.com/buzz/178605/legendary-broadway-songwriter-stephen-sondheim-dies-at-91/ Early photo of Steve.

<sighs> Stephen Sondheim R.I.P. Age 91. And a LEGEND in/for American Musical Theater. https://www.broadway.com/buzz/178605/legendary-broadway-songwriter-stephen-sondheim-dies-at-91/ Early photo of Steve.

So much rain these past days. Many floods, part of our main highway washed out....
...and Vancouver was basically "Cut off" from the rest of Canada, for transport on land.
And traveling of course. Very scary. Five people lost their lives over here. So far.
It's tough. And more high winds and showers for another several days...
<sighs> And so it goes. We're fine, still with power, and lots of room to go crazy in, lol.

Playland/PNE (Vancouver) Discussion Thread

Well, whatever they choose to build, a new or used one, I hope they can still put a coaster there at all. Financially-speaking. -

^ Actually ..... I am really hoping that it isn't a coaster, that can only hold/run one train. Like Wicked Twister, which I did get to ride with Bert in 2017. And other coasters like it. They are all great, these one train only coasters. I've ridden many and enjoyed most of them. But for Playland? I hope not. The two family coasters are one train only run. And Coaster usually, we hope, runs two trains during the PNE in August. But one train other times of the year. My 7 cents. -

^ Wow. I choked up a bit. 50 years??? Amazing commercial. Great find, Bert! p.s. And honestly, Santa is HOT!

My bar suggestion is ..... get up to the West Hollywood area. "Used to be" .... during my visits there, there were a lot of bars in just that area. All within walking, too. But - that was then. There may be a few bars in the Anaheim/Buena Park area too. Google it, and you'll find out. It's so f-ing easy to find bars and such places, nowadays. Compared to "my bar days back then". Rant over.

bert goes to Texas Theme Parks (mega thread)
Nrthwnd replied to bert425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great new set(s) of photos here, Bert. Looks like you had an awesome time, wherever you ended up, lol. "Spoiler 2: of course, I rode the Carousels at all 3 places" Carou-whore. In a really good way, of course. -

^ I keep thinking/hoping/dreaming, that they're going to install an El Loco coaster there where Corkscrew was. There isn't one in Canada, so Playland would be The First if they did build one. First One in Canada, that is. Like I said .... hoping. A lot. The original El Loco. And I am pretty sure it could/would fit the Corkscrew footprint, easily. -
Playland/PNE (Vancouver) Discussion Thread

Been gone, for over a couple of years, now. Last time I read here, someone pointed out it was for sale. Several pages back. They also used to have a fence banner around the space where Corkscrew was, sort of promising "something exciting in the future." But that's been taken away, now. With the Pandemic curbing how the park's to be run ... I hope they get through this, okay. And get back to getting us a Brand New Coaster, yes! This is what used to exist on the fence around Corkscrew. Then the coaster came down. c.2019 -
Been a while.... "between loaves" heh. But I finally pulled it together last weekend, to make one of my "Easy Bread Bake" recipes' Cinnamon Raisin Loaf. It actually turned out pretty good. And sweet to eat. Definitely worth making and baking again. Into it's second rise. Already it looks great, with the sugar and cinnamon mix all over it. 3 hours later... Done! A dark crust on it, but so chewy and sweet inside. And the baking brings out the RED of the Craisins, besides the purple of the raisins. Yum. See what I mean? I could definitely pick out the raisins from the Craisins. All good eating!

Random suggestion: If they, the PNE, (finally) get the right funds together, to actually install a new coaster where Corkscrew used to be... How about, no matter what kind of coaster it is .... call it ..... The Coast. That's it. Simple. But effective where it's located, with the background. If the framework is painted so the gp can actually "see through" it, to the North Shore, The name will work.
