Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If all of those box-looking things have scarecrows, I'm going to be peeing myself. Haha I'm so pumped for Haunt! (minus the pee). Also, if KI has a Haunt page up I cannot find it for the life of me. I'll feel really dumb if it was right there in front of my eyes the whole time, but can someone link? -
I agree. I feel they could make it work somehow in this location and it will be very impressive to view as you walk in. I do not think they will be removing the go-karts. I will be really surprised if that's what they end up doing. Also, based on the pattern of what the other Six Flags parks got this year, I would not be surprised if the next couple years we also get a Battle for Metropolis and S&S free-fly. Oh, and this new ride looks pretty sick Yeah I knew people would say it's similar to Taz but they are different in so many ways and this will be a great addition. And they could use more flats, esp since Taz and some of the others (VooDoo, Thrilla Gorilla) seem to be down a lot.

No, but I do believe in life after death! Did you work out this week?

Good plan. We're heading there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Can't wait. I'm planning on being there Sunday and maybe a little of Saturday and Monday. I'll keep an eye out for you guys at the bar, LOL. I'm gonna renew my Platinum Pass on Sunday for that awesome free Fast Lane deal unless there's some small print that I didn't know about. Also, I haven't been since 2009 so I'm totally stoked. Gatekeeper, Rougarou convert, and Valravn are all new to me as well as Maverick because it was down when I visited. Just gotta get paid and then find a hotel in my budget that I won't get assaulted at -
Yes! Do you have a TV show you really like but are ashamed to admit?

^^^As a female coaster enthusiast...Let's just say that when I go to an enthusiast event or meet enthusiasts at parks, it's like: At least with the heterosexuals... -
No I have a windowless office for now. Did it rain this week where you live?
-
No! Have you watched any TV today?

^I think you're imagining a really weird version of what he is imagining, I could totally see it working unless there are some earthquake or water-flow reasons that prevent them from digging down. Also, there are never too many drop towers. The existence of other drop towers in the state does not preclude SFDK from getting one. It's all about rounding out SFDK's lineup of rides, and a drop tower is something that would fit in nicely and still be very popular. After thinking about it and visiting KI's stellar kids area, I do think SFDK could use more family rides, something between the small kids rides and the big thrill rides.

Anyone ridden all the RMCs yet?
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to kweiss's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Someone at KI yesterday who has been on all US RMCs ranked Joker the lowest (except maybe Goliath). I stand by my opinion that it just keeps getting better with time and will NOT be sluggish at all in the future and will deliver some of the best airtime of any of the RMCs. I had a few rides that were hauling and in those cases I thought it definitely beat out Wicked Cyclone, which for me beats out TC. I love TC but I don't get why people rank it so high over other RMCs. Soon I should be getting on Storm Chaser (which people thought was slow at first, but now are saying it's one of the best). Maybe even Lightning Rod later this year -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The park was open 5-10 yesterday, and all week I had planned to go and ride the coasters I missed last Sunday as well as get some night rides on Beast. However, when I woke up after a lucrative night of drinking, I really doubted I'd feel well enough to make it. By around 4 I still felt a little iffy, but thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. I got to the park right around five and immediately noticed the lot was way less full than Sunday. Turns out, everything was a walk-on or one train wait all night. It was pretty hot and humid, but cooled down after an hour or so. Basically, a perfect evening for KI. But would my head survive or would the mighty grip of hangover overtake my fun? I figured the perfect way to test the fates would be to ride Firehawk and Flight of Fear in succession. As I not-so-gently lowered down on Firehawk, I knew this would be the ultimate hangover test. No going back now. But.... I loved it! Didn't have any roughness, it was terrifying and cool and different. I was a little nervous about Flight of Fear, and it turned out awesome as well, not too rough for me at all! Later, I came back and ended up front row on both. Firehawk was really cool in the front and reminded me a bit of X2 as we crested the top. After that, I hit up Diamondback, a one-train wait for the back row. Wow, great airtime this ride in the back. Speaking of seatbelts...did not detract from the experience at all, and I actually had a lot more room than I probably should have allowed myself. I ended up riding twice more in the 2nd to back without going around, since there were other single riders. Fast forward, I ended up riding Stunt Coaster (which I apparently didn't do my research on because I didn't know it had a launch and indoor section, and I loved it!), Flying Ace (as the only one on the train, LOL), Flyers (but didn't want to go too crazy with the kids around), Woodstock (actually had some airtime!), Invertigo (my liver hurt but not my head), Banshee front and back (way better in the front and I don't normally say that!), Drop Tower (I'm all about the drop), Firehawk and FoF again, and Rock n Roll (fun little flat) all before dark. I even stopped for dinner and meandered around a bit. It was turning out to be a truly #bestKIday and then.... Darkness had fallen upon the park. In the distance, lightning lit the clouds. My soul called me towards something in the woods. I knew if I went, I would never be the same again. But I couldn't resist, it was time. The line for front row of Beast was a bit long, but I knew had to be done. About a half hour later, I boarded with another single rider. He had seen the other side and had tales to tell. As we crested the first drop, I knew my life would never be the same. I left that ride a new woman, enlightened, glad to be alive. The line had considerably shortened but I knew the fireworks were soon and I didn't know if I should test the fates. The ride op even warned us that we might be just past the cut-off point, but the fates looked down and smiled upon this humble coaster enthusiast. I paired with a group of 3 other enthusiasts, and the guy and I were the last front-row riders before the fireworks. Such a great way to end the night. It changed my life, really it did. And that was my #bestKIday. My hangover was completely cured, and I am sooo glad I decided to go! Here are a few pics: On this episode of 2020, a woman decides to visit KI after a long night of drinking. But will her trip end in disaster, or will she be forever changed? Stay tuned as we uncover the secrets of Kings Island. *gentle music playing* "Badger badger badger.. AGHH SNAKKEEE!!! SNAKEKEE!!!" Diamondback may make you wet if you ride it in the back "It was a wild crazy insane experience, it's like Jekyll and Hyde, yo!" "Ooh Windseeker looks nice at night, should I go?" "No, don't lose sight of what's important in life. Go to it, it's time." Post-awakening fireworks show Look at that stiff, pink rod. So majestic I really, really can't wait to come back here during Haunt! -
Wow, three new mazes! I did like the three that are going away this year, but I'm always so impressed with Knott's for changing it up so much every year. I had a killer time last year, wish I could make it again this year but I have friends who will fill me in. Awesome TR! I'm really glad they're continuing another zombie shooting maze, it was so much fun last year. I loved it in Camp Snoopy, but this new one should be awesome as well! Does anyone know where it's going to be?
-
Advice please. I'm living about 2 hours away but I probably only have the time to visit once (possibly twice if it's consecutive days). When would be the best time to visit? I was thinking of waiting until late September because the hours seem longer but the $10 Kroger and $30 two-day out-of-state prices caught my eye and I could visit this weekend. How is it during state fair?

"Sorority House"? Geewhiz, I can't imagine what the actors will be wearing in there... Costumes aside, that is typically one of the better houses in the park. Now and before it was changed to Delta Delta Die. That seems like an awesome concept! No offense to anyone who is/was a part of Greek life, but I'm not a huge fan of it. So whatever murder and mayhem this house suggests, I approve Sundays tend to not be that busy, however I would suggest hitting up Firehawk and Flight of Fear first. Last Sunday was my first time at the park, and I did arrive a bit late and leave a bit early, but it was a lot busier than I thought it would be. Several coasters reached hour+ waits, and most of them were at least 30-40. I think I'm gonna go back this Friday to ride the coasters I didn't get to, hopefully get night rides (esp Beast), and rerides of the ones I liked. I never reported back after several of you wished me a good time (thank you) and then the thread got sidetracked with an unfortunate comment, but I rode Diamondback, Beast, Vortex, Racer (both sides), Monster, Adventure Express, Drop Tower, Banshee, and Bat. In general I enjoyed everything I rode, except Vortex which was a bit intolerable even for someone who can handle rough coasters usually well. It wasn't quite a "never again" like a coaster of the same name in California which will soon be converted, but bad enough I'll wait before giving it another chance. Banshee was very fun but not too intense and I'm not a fan of the vests. Diamondback had better airtime than I expected. Racer was rougher than I hoped, but better the 2nd time when I sat in a different row. Beast was less rough than I expected and very fun, although I do think it'll ride a lot better in the dark. Bat was a surprise gem, Adventure Express was a lot cuter and funner than I was expecting, and I loved Drop tower! It's super weird for me to think this will be my new home park now after having SFDK as my home park my whole life, and they are such different parks, but I'm totally psyched because KI seems like an overall awesome park and I'm really looking forward to Haunt! Now, if only they had an RMC... -

I'm planning on hitting the park for the first time tomorrow, just moved to Ohio this week and I'm totally pumped. Don't think I need advice really but message me if any of you are planning on visiting soon and would like to plan a meet-up! -
What is your next park?
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kings Island, hopefully (most likely) tomorrow! -
It's better to convert Vortex than remove it, IMO. Great America has seen too many coaster removals with too few additions. I'll probably still make fun of it but I'll maybe make fun of it a little less after this conversion. Also, NorCal GP are probably the stupidest I've ever seen. They're really not going to make the connection between Medusa and Patriot, if they even realize that SFDK is a thing. A ton of people are gonna think it's a brand new ride and be like, "Why did they remove Vortex? I liked that ride." People thought Roar was torn completely down for Joker, I hear people compare rides that aren't similar in the least, and they have no awareness of any coasters outside of NorCal (except those who have been to Magic Mountain and are like, "Whoa, there's more than one Six Flags park?!?") Compare that to the east coast where people seem to have a much better understanding of coasters. Seriously, this will make people notice Vortex again no matter what marketing they choose. CGA could be like, "LOL BLUE!" and the GP will be excited.

It's the lightning that's more a cause for ride closure than rain. I never really saw it rain without some lightning in the area and everything would close with lightning within 10 miles or so. I also don't think there's any way to predict it except on a minute by minute basis as jynx242 said. Kumba, Montu, Sheikra, and Falcons Fury definitely had cubby holes for water bottles and small items. The others might have them too but I definitely remember the above 4 having them. For hiring look on the Seaworld parks job posting website and narrow your search to BGT.

I was surprised they said they were getting a new ride. All year I've predicted they were going to get a different movie in the "5D" theater, or VR a coaster for 2017. They're already getting VR this year so "new ride" could be a different (and hopefully better) movie in the IWERKS theater. Most other Six Flags are rumored for S&S coaster or Justice League, but there has been no clearing of land at SFDK that I know of for either of those, so they seem a bit unlikely. I will throw in S&S drop tower/double shot as an idea, to go in the space between Joker and Superman. That land is already pretty clear since Joker construction, and it seems like a good place for a Justice League themed tower.

What's your favorite Flat ride?
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Anything at Knoebels! But especially the flyers. Also, just rode it at my local fair but the Zipper is still probably my favorite flat ride even though I've never seen one at a theme park. I think it would be sick to have a theme park version of the Zipper, but part of the fun of that ride is how janky some of the fair versions feel. I always inevitably have a conversation with someone about what would happen if the door came open, or if one of the seats got flung off the ride. I've never heard of a Zipper accident but there always seem to be ferris wheel accidents (I was actually in one). -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is awesome news. Thank you! I can't wait. I didn't think I would make it to the park this year but just decided to take a quick trip out there for a couple days. I'll be going during that time, on September 1st. It's a Thursday, so it should be really nice! It's a little close to the extended Labor Day weekend, but I think that day shouldn't be too bad due to that. Seriously, it's a great time to go, so you should have a great day! Friday picks up a bit but Thursday is slow. We'll be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday this year and may or may not pop in for Early Entry on Monday. I've been debating about what to do for Labor Day weekend and Cedar Point was an option. I don't think I'll be able to afford Fast Lane and I kinda thought Cedar Point would be a nightmare that weekend. It's encouraging that other people are still going, but are all you guys getting Fast Lane? -
I don't always laugh out loud when reading TPR, but when I do, it's in this thread! This was pure gold: La Ronde is one of those parks I forgot existed until your TR. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way for the place, but if I'm ever in Montreal I'll have to check it out at least to see how bad it is, but Idk if I'd ride every coaster like you guys did.

We actually went October 30th last year (a Friday), but for Haunt, not the rides. We got Fright Lane and even with it, we faced stupid long lines. We barely ended up going through every maze (but not every Skeleton Key room) because the crowds lightened up toward the end of the night. Scare actors were lacking as well; not sure if everyone just quit their jobs before Halloween weekend but the mazes had very few scare actors and a lot of obvious unused potential. I don't go to the park very often, but it's probably the busiest I've ever seen it. I guess it depends on what you're going for. I'd definitely recommend getting Fright Lane if you're going for Haunt and Fast Lane for the rides.
