Your guilty pleasure ride
RAWKIN_coaster38 replied to DanTheBooker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At my old home park, SFDK.... Kong. No one likes it, but I always gave it a courtesy ride as long as the line wasn't too long. New home park, KI. The coasters are all so good, I like them all (besides Vortex). I don't know I can say I have a guilty pleasure ride, except maybe the flyers in Planet Snoopy. I love flyers, but I did feel a little guilty riding them as a lone adult with a bunch of kids around. -

Not sure if you're a fan of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, but this is perfect! Oh, and TyRush, your TR was great and very informative! -
What is your next park?

I feel the same way, and it's not even the off-season yet. My friend and I are going to be at the park this weekend, still resolving which days exactly to go. It'll be our first Halloweekends, but it doesn't really look like it holds a candle to Haunt at KI, which I've been going to every weekend since that opened. Still, I can't wait to get another night ride on Maverick! -

I've been meaning to post the few pics I took last Saturday. But I just want to say... I hath redeemed mine self! I went to Haunt alone, and managed to go through Cavern of Terror (which I still thought was pretty scary! I guess it just depends what you find scary... I'm not a huge fan of mannequins, but I'm cool with clowns, so I'd say CarnEvil would be a good starter maze). andddd... I went through Board 2 Death! It was still scary but not as bad. I still hold to my memory that the first time it was darker, or at least, my eyes couldn't see as well. This time, I could see the path around the thimble and wheelbarrow a lot easier, and I could see that that's what they were. Didn't see the bunny/rat, I kinda rushed through that room. Also, I met some cool guys who I joined for Blackout and Carnevil. Blackout...THAT TALL THING IS STILL THE MOST TERRIFYING THING AT HAUNT!! I couldn't even look at it! Ended the night with front row Beast, and waited an hour. I heard Diamondback had a 2 hour line at some point. Needless to say, the park was pretty busy, with long coaster lines, but not too long of maze lines. I would have loved to see this ride, the detail in here is fabulous! Why there sir, you look totally fabulous Why, aren't you a fabulous spider? Girl, you so fab! Work it, work it ancient alien creature that doesn't seem to go with the plotline of this maze! You so fab! Fabulous puking punkin Fabulous pooping punkin (Seriously, who thinks of these things?) So fabulous! (Depending on whether you believe in the B&M rattle, subscribe to B&M rattle weekly, have sold your soul to the B&M rattle, or vehemently deny any B&M rattle, in which case you proudly ride Banshee in the back and declare it the best B&M invert in the world, despite other glaringly obvious contenders. ) -

Anyone heading to the park tonight? I heard it might be pretty busy, but I just drank my weekend's worth of alcohol all last night, so no more partying tonight. Whenever I can drag my hungover a$$ up, I'm planning on going to the park. -
Yes Have you ever cheated on a test?

I LOVE that death seat! Skyrush is the only coaster that legitimately scared me. One of my rides on it, I left maybe a bit too much space between the lapbar and my thighs. Going over that drop... OMG, I saw my life flash before my eyes. I was like, "This is how I'm going to go...I'm going to be on the news tonight." I can only think that the people who don't like it must not like intense rides...or can't handle the thigh pain. For me, the thigh pain was like rough sex.... it hurts, you're going to have a bit of trouble walking after it's all over, but your mind is saying yes, yes yes, can't get enough!!! I LOVE Skyrush, and you guys talking about I305 seriously tempts me to drive the 9 hours on my one three-day weekend coming up. -
This. The "friends" part is sometimes optional... Agreed!! Drinking copious amounts of wine and watching the Bachelor with my cats
-
I'm definitely a back row person, I prefer back on everything except maybe Cheetah Hunt. Kumba, back right. Sheikra...I still prefer back right. Montu... not sure if I had a preference for right or left, maybe back right as well? Cheetah Hunt...I always sat in the back, but partially because I didn't want to wait for the front.
-
No! But a certain politician may be trying.. Do you like any reality TV shows?
-
Yes, but nothing very well done and it has been a while. Have there been clown sightings where you live?
-
Yes, and Halloween lights! Do you like cats?

Probably early to mid-August, when my family went rock jumping in the river. When was the last time you were overcharged for a purchase? -

Two weekends ago, I met you! When was the last time you went out to eat, besides at a theme park? -
If you mean lay down like the Vekoma Flying Dutchman coasters, then as of now I've really been enjoying Firehawk at KI more than most of the B&M flyers I've been on! Do you like spicy food?

^Since you asked, I'll embarrass myself and tell the story along with my TR On Saturday, I took my friend who has never been to KI before. About 10 minutes from the park, he says, "You think I'll be able to get into the park with my 2017 platinum pass? I used my one free ticket at Cedar Point." Dang, maybe should have thought of that sooner. We got to the park around 5, but had to wait until 5:30 to buy a Haunt ticket. Once inside the park, we rode Banshee in the front, then went to Firehawk. My friend said he didn't want any spoilers, so I made him turn away from the coaster while we waited, and I made him keep his eyes closed in the station. I told him we were riding in the back (despite me clearly asking the ride op if we could ride in the front). So, strapped into the front row of Firehawk, he still had no idea what the coaster would do. The look on his face when we lowered back and I said, "Surprise! We are in the front!" ...completely priceless. Well worth the long wait! When we got off the coaster, we were right by the maze, Board 2 Death, and it had no line. I was a bit nervous, but gathered the courage to walk in and.... we got a few steps in before they told us to go back out, and we noticed everyone else go out through an emergency exit. It was probably a good 15 or so minutes of us wondering what was going on and if we should wait it out while they resolved the issue. When they let us go in, I SWEAR it was super dark inside, like too dark, and I couldn't see where I was going and almost tripped over something. I got a couple scenes in, super nervous and uncomfortable, when I saw this scary animatronic of what I thought was a demonic rabbit, and I was like "NOPE, don't want to do this." My friend thought I was joking and tried to convince me to keep going, but I'd been in this situation before and did NOT want to keep going as long as I felt like this. I was right by an emergency exit, thankfully, and I peaced out. So yeah, I only got through half of Board 2 Death, but I would like to try it again and see if it really is that dark, or if something went wrong and some of the lights were out which added to it being especially unnerving that time. Otherwise, I'm a p***y and apparently can't handle animatronic rats. After that, I decided drinking a beer would be our best next step, so I led us toward the sports bar by Diamondback. I noticed Diamondback testing and was like, hold up, my coaster senses are tingling, let's go check it out. The midway was super crowded, and we noticed the Diamondback line stretching to the sports bar. My friend was like no way, but when I saw that the line started at the entrance, I convinced him to wait. Sure enough, 5 minutes later they let everyone in, and we walked almost to the stairs before we had to stop. It took maybe 20 minutes to get an AWESOME back row night ride, and when we got off, the line was already through all the switchbacks. GREAT timing! Next up, I still needed a beer. I waited at least 20 minutes in the sports bar with the bartenders running around like crazy, not having even two minutes to get me a beer. I gave up and we went down a little ways to a beer cart with a lot less options but only a five minute wait. Armed with some liquid courage, I felt ready to try another maze, so we went to CarnEvil. Fast forward, it went really well, we loved it. After that, we caught Hot Blooded, then hit up Backwoods Bayou, Adventure Express, Sorority House, Urgent Scare, Field of Screams, Slaughterhouse, and ended the night with a front row ride on Beast. Add those in with the mazes I did on opening weekend: Wolf Pack, Blackout, and KillMart, and now I've done all mazes except Cavern of Terror and the second half of Board 2 Death. I've definitely been contributing some great screams in the other mazes, but I swear I didn't feel like peacing out during any of the other mazes. So don't judge. Okay, here are the few pics I did take. The evil of the thriller! My friend's first time at Haunt, and he's already less scared than me! When darkness falls across the land, the midnight hour is close at hand... Creatures crawl in search of blood To terrorize your neighborhood! And though you fight to stay alive Your body starts so shiver For no mere mortal can resist -
Yes! Do you get scared in haunted mazes?

OMG! That's what's in the shed! They finally made a coaster for enthusiasts, you guys--hear me out, this is legit--at the end of Mystic Timbers, you go into the shed to see an RMC truck! Jizz yourself with excitement! It's happening. It's real. It's confirmed. You heard it here first. OMG I was just going to say something like this but you said it better I was there this last Saturday too (small TR to come when I have the time) sans Fright Lane, and we were able to do 6.5 mazes (don't ask about the half), one of the shows, and a good amount of coasters. This was with us meandering about and spending like 20 minutes waiting to get a beer at the Sports Bar, only to leave without one because they were taking too long, and then a good amount of time wandering around and looking for beer. The lines for the mazes shortened considerably as the night went on, but Field of Screams was pretty long the entire night. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, and the maze lines moved quickly. I guess it just depends on how much you like your $60 vs how much you hate waiting in line. I'll probably be back this Friday or Saturday (not sure when yet), and am down to meet up with someone. I won't be getting Fright Lane, though. -
No, haha but I am at the island of kings as I type this. Have you put up any Halloween decorations this year?

Someone already asked this but I can't seem to find the answer... is there still passholder early entry during Haunt? -
Obviously, it's your money, do what you want with it, but this is the kind of thinking that Robb was talking about. Why not get a season pass just to ride Joker and TC, which are both stellar rides? Even if SFDK and SFMM don't get new coasters for 10 years, I'm still going to visit the parks because there are some awesome existing rides.

While I do think avoiding adding to stigma (for any stigmatized groups, whether it be mental health, race, gender, sexuality, or disability) is important, and I could agree with changing the name (although most people probably wouldn't even know what a 5150 is), I don't really see how this VR qualifies as adding to mental health stigma. Maybe someone who rode it could weigh in?
-
I'm surprised it took 4 pages for someone to say this, because this is the obvious answer for me: For me, it has nothing to do with past additions being stale, or feeling entitled, or not having places to visit. It just makes the off-season more exciting to follow the construction and general unfolding of an impressive new ride. I, too, realized recently that this was an off-year. It struck me as odd because it's the first year I remember in a while that none of the major US chains/parks have announced a huge new project by this time, but like others said, it gives me next year to catch up on recent additions I haven't been able to ride yet. While even with construction, enthusiasts still get into the most effing obnoxious conversations, at least there's some new obnoxiousness to chuckle about.
